Welcome to the Bearded Tesla Guy channel. I am glad you are here and hope you will stay awhile. I have long desired a Tesla of my own, and when the Model 3 launched, we decided to start saving, and saving aggressively. When the Model Y was announced, we finally had a target. We per-ordered the Model Y, and now we are acclimating our family to the Tesla lifestyle.
I am happy to share our experiences of living with the Tesla Model Y and hope that you get some value exploring the car with us. If you too have a family, you will hopefully find that the Model Y is indeed a very compelling family car.

BTG you should get a QuadLock Mag Safe Case that will then attach with the super sturdy QuadLock locking system, plus when you start to ride motorcycles it is an entire eco-system.

Your $1,000 too low on your supercharging cost. It’s ¢41 per KWH not .28 /kwh . Also don’t tailgate trucks and you won’t break windshields
Uhhh what magic supercharger are you going to? Super charging rates are around 40¢ per kWh at every charger I’ve ever seen…

What if you buy a qualifying car and sell it to buy another qualifying car in the same year, can you claim the credit on both in that year?
You can claim unlimited credits (assuming you have enough liability and dont exceed income caps) but the credit is for the purchase of a vehicle "not meant for resale"

That’s why you buy it via referral point. I did spend a few days trying to reason with her those points are best spent on acceleration boost (making it worth 20 cents per point) than free supercharger (worth 3 cents per point). 😂. And I told her it makes the car’s value higher for trade in. 😅
Acceleration boost for 9.5k referral credits is a great deal.
Where do you get .26 for kWh Super Charger rates? Lowest I have seen is in the hig 30's
here in the southeast.

I had to send mine in for repair and calibration of the doors 3 times this past year
I’m hoping for more qualified professionals who can calibrate the FW doors in the future, seems like it will get worse as the car ages and it’s already a nuisance getting the car in

You should be able to now. The day this video posted, Tesla started rolling out updates to HW4 vehicles that evening.
I need a new car soon and in the market for the MYP 2023. But i’m also reluctant as I think they may refresh it in 2024? And I would love the cooled seats, I also like the middle cluster of the X..such a hard decision but leaning towards buying a Y now and hopefully resell when they refresh. What are your thoughts?
The Model Y is expected to be 6 months behind the Model 3 refresh. Just an estimate.
I had white steam today coming out from trunk/front wheels while supercharging, I thought it will become a fire, scary shit

its normal when the weather starts getting cooler and there is moisture. It can heat and "steam" a bit while charging.

The 2024 credit may not reduce the official sales price of the car and thus the sales tax. I don't see anywhere else claiming this will happen. It would be awesome though, assuming they don't cut other discounts.
@BeardedTeslaGuy States could tax the fed credit since it's part of the payment.
It does though as it is to be applied to the purchase price of the vehicle, which would be taken out before you purchase.

Remember that most car magazines and manufacturers report the 1 foot rollout time for 0-60 runs. Tesla also quotes this (faster) time for the performance model 3 and plaid model x and s. The fastest 1 foot rollout time you got was 3.39 seconds! A performance model 3 does 0-60 in 3.1 seconds with 1 foot (this is the claimed time. It is more like 3.2 in most cases). This means you are really, really close to the performance after this boost. It’s tricky how tesla uses different performance measurements for different cars to make the performance models seem faster…

why not compare the hybrid Rav4 or a prime. Most people target a hybrid at least.
@Bearded Tesla Guy insurance is likely 2x or more than the most affordable suv on the market. People not having home charging and super charging all the time kind of negates the benefit of cost savings. Hybrid rav4 is just approx 2k more than the ICE only same trim.
Trying to show you that the Model Y is actually as "cheap" as the most affordable and desirable SUV's on the market.
The problem is you can only stay under 80k with the 5 seat interior, I'd bet most like me want the 6 seat config if you have kids.
@Bearded Tesla Guy Ya, that's my point though. I totally could use the credit and the car but not if it's not a 6 seater. The biggest issue I have with EV's is how limited they are for people with families. Currently have to drive two EV's wherever we go which sucks.
of course most want the 6 seat, its the most convenient for families, but it doesn't matter because if you want the tax credit, you can't get the 6 seat. If you dont qualify or dont care about tax credit then you can get the 6 seat.
I did this twice and seemed fine.. but everytine it rains is humid outside the smells comes back.. any ideas why ? Is it worth try it with ac actually running?
its moisture continuing to get trapped in there. Make sure you are cleaning the evaporator really good and you are letting the box dry before installing the new filters. Then run the HVAC on heat for 5 minutes.
oh man, my M3P is mind blowing and I’m married to it 😂 but mate “2K $$ to make the go faster and I can’t get the dining chair EYE want?” I’ve been down this road, that’s not question, it’s a statement bout how she feels about u and her marriage 😢 Mighty be nothing, generally it’s HUGE, too tough to turn around. Either a big mia culpa , & flip discretionary spend of past 2yr, or ‘check in’ see what’s up - the diner chairs might be proxy (most likely)
you are looking way too much into my marriage lol. We talked about the chairs 6 months prior, but hadn't since and I didn't know she was still thinking about them.

Did you take the Y into Tesla for a two year maintenance service, if so any cost there?
no I didn't
Maybe go with a steel box instead of plastic for extra piece of mind in the future, I also use MC cable when it's exposed like that (unless it's outside), that way if something hits it, it's protected.
Its in the garage so not outside but not inside either
My model x with Tesla vision is a lot better after the update i got yesterday. But when im parking in my garage, it still thinks my car goes inside the wall when im still 2 feet away. It is horrible! I will be good one day, im sure, but it was released way too soon.
Mine does that too! The other day it said i was half way inside of a semi when i was 5 feet away!
lol, the park assist is laughable. It thinks I am crashing the whole time I back into my driveway
Texas here...have replaced 2 windshields on the Y, last one I just gave up...huge Crack across the screen.

Comparing with rav4 gas not really correct because you should have use rav4 hybrid, than it is a game changing 45-50 miles per gallon, and free maintenance 4years or 45,000 miles! For the price of model Y and limited rav4 hybrid ,- you get way more quality for a price,- again if you go to RX hybrid even better because model Y would be same price as RX.
understood, but my point was one of the most affordable and popular gas SUV's of similar size is not actually all that much cheaper as people think. I am showing you that the Model Y, although it has a larger price tag, is the same cost as the most affordable SUV's on the market.
I am doing a Demo of the Model X tomorrow. Can't wait to experience it and hopefully decide if it's what I want. However I am debating on waiting to take delivery until January to get the tax credit and POS. That plus my down payment would have a much lower monthly payment. Question: Can you simply purchase the Enhanced Autopilot and FSD at any time? or is it only the monthly subscription?

I’m starting to do my research before deciding on which configuration of the Model Y I’ll order for delivery here in Thailand. Unfortunately, the extra seats configuration is not possible in Thailand😢, which would have been really handy with kids in our household.

just be aware, there will be more slack in an accident, which will mean the inertial reel lock on the seatbelt will engage in a bit looser position.

@Bearded Tesla Guy Guessing there is a cable? I seem to recall there is no OBD port, pull the back off the Center Console and there is an adapter to pop in that has a port. Is there one you like better than others? Thanks, Tom
