For folks that dont understand Tamil the reason this song is so intense is because it depicts the deep one sided despairing desire that this ladys character Samudhrakumari ( literal translation daughter of the sea) has for poniyinselvan ( not present in the song). I read PS novel volumes in 1967-68 first time in a library and 2 or 3more times later. The characters have been etched in my memory till now. I am in late sixties now and recollecting/visualising poonguzali travelling to srilanka singing this song. This was a complex novel with unsolved points. Frankly I was touched by Manimekalais death in the end a lot in my younger days.
I'm also felt about the death of manimegalai for one month. That scenario didn't left from my mind😥😥
