  • The bit at 17:09 had to be muted for copyright purposes. Apparently we are allowed to use the full visuals from the movie and not the audio. Oh well. Sorry about that, guys!

  • Marcus finding out he actually likes this movie is the best character arc I've seen in a long time.

  • Serious statement: Something being cliche doesn't mean it will be bad. You can have a good movie, game or book filled with cliches, and it can still be good.

    • Amen

    • Amen x10 it's all about execution.

    • In the words of one George Lucas: "They're called cliches because they work!"

    • the problem with a cliche is moreso that the term cliche means that the idea given doesn't really have the same meaning or impact that it used to the idea of a cliche being executed well literally comes down to the audience's tolerance to the cliches

    • i mean, thats just how to train your dragon. almost everything in that movie is a cliche and its fucking spectacular

  • Marcus laughing at young aquamans acting is so genuine, it makes me whole.

    • Also the way he laughs at “Call me Ocean Master” and when he says “This is how you stand if you know how to FUCK”.

    • @AndroidSenpai lmao the second line was definitely a favorite experience!

    • "All we know about him is that he hates human and that he likes to yell a lot" **proceeds to show a montage of Orm and his actor yelling**

    • @AndroidSenpai Jason momoa can stand however the fuck he wants... lmao

    • Oh boy, if something some stranger says on you tube makes you “ whole” there is something seriously wrong. You need to get out more

  • One thing I found hilarious is how the bad guys always entered with an explosion even when it wasn’t needed. For example, Aquaman could just be buying some groceries but then suddenly the freezer explodes, revealing the bad guys that are here to beat him up

  • “So why is the underwater city still a myth when one of the Altanteans is a known celebrity?” Dude, I think you’re overestimating the collective willingness of humanity to accept that their reality is not what they think it is.

    • Which our ongoing pandemic highlighted perfectly, i'd say. Real talk; you are spot on though : /

    • @cristian kp he's right tho, this pandemic proved that humans are always finding new ways to be even dumber, it's really not farfetched that people won't believe Atlanteans

    • @Arav Singh hundreds(probably thousands) of people think that indians aren't asian, i wont be surprised if people don't think atlantis is real if it were real

    • Back when they rereleased,Titanic in 2012, there were articles written about the sheer number of people admitting that they JUST NOW learned the movie was based on real events and not a fairy tale. Also, look up any video on narwhals, you're guaranteed to find at least one "wait, these are real?" comment. Edit: autocorrect turned narwhals into marshals, so I changed it back so it would make sense.

  • "Do we hate Amber Heard now?" The quote that aged well but the tone behind it hasn't.

    • Yep

    • Came back and rewatched this just for the Amber Heard references

    • It aged terribly

    • @rattyeely it aged well.

    • @Pathetic It is a thing that was said. Tbh they both suck and idk why people are making it a "pick a side" thing

  • Alternate title: marcus realises he actually likes this movie but won’t admit it for half an hour

    • its ok to like bad material, its called guilty pleasure

    • LMAO

    • ArE yOu sayInG TheY ExEcUteD hEr?

    • Jester's Sketchbook pissed myself at this 😂

    • Lol yup I walked into this movie fully ready to not enjoy myself, but it’s actually very fun and exciting even if it sucks.

  • I always thought that orm’s motivation is that he blames the humans for his mom‘s death because if she didn’t fall in love with a human she wouldn’t have to be executed

    • that was pretty obvious, i was surprised he misunderstood orm's motivation.

    • And also he thought she loved her half-human son more than him because of his father...idk I got that vibe

    • @Naomi LEGGO Neverland at the end of the day, Orm's motivation was half his mom abandoning him and half humans being pigs lol

    • Dunno man do we give a specific reason besides annoyance before we step on a cockroach or an ant

    • voodoo one this is viper on station

  • The example given for how Aquaman's intelligence fluctuates was really funny to me, because I graduated with a degree in Greek and Roman history and work as a professional Latin tutor, and my first thought was, "Pinnocio was based on a book?" So... it's not unrealistic! He's just a Classics nerd like me.

  • I just read Orum's hatred of humans as his reaction to his mother's love of them. She obviously favors Arthur over him, and was ostensibly "killed" because of her love of her human family over her arranged family. Instead of blaming her for their rift or his father for forcing her to marry him, Orum blames humans for causing the rift between him and his mother.

    • Ok, but now all 8 billion of them have to die because he didn't get enough love from his presumably dead mommy. I'm sorry but that's not good enough.

    • @Jeremiah Agbaje your not really suppose to now that with just the movie but in the comics it's established that some atlanteans are like super racists towards humans

    • @Jeremiah AgbajeI mean shit, Hitler killed millions of Jews because he didn’t get into art school 🤷🏼‍♀️ is it really that far fetched my dude?

    • Yea but still, it's pretty easy just to give us a little more elaboration and it would only help us.

  • The crab people thingy was actually mentioned previously in the movie, i forget where, but it's mentioned that some of the people that lived in the water split into factions. Just like how the lovecraftian monsters were once part of the people but gave in to their natural instincts, crab people went down the same route but not to the same degree! And there's another faction of waterpeople that are essentially mermen and mermaids!

    • yeah, I don't know how he just forgot about thos

    • @Camarãoit was mentioned an hour ago and was never brought up again, I don’t blame him

  • A freaking love this movie. It's dumb, it knows it's dumb, and it OWNS it. It has fun with everything it is, and pulls it off so well I can't possibly hate it. I love the underwater aesthetics, I love the cheesy costumes, I love the legitimately good shots, I love the random desert sand-slide, I love all the major villain fights, I love the explosion interruptions, I love the cliche character-growth and callbacks and story beats, I love it all. Well, maybe not the crude humor jokes, but we can't all be perfect. They're rare enough I can overlook them. I usually try to think more critically about what I'm watching. But I don't want to analyze Aquaman. I'm too happy with what I'm watching to care to.

  • "Call me Ocean Master" is absolutely ridiculous but Pattick Wilson delivers it with such conviction he should get an award.

    • Yeah, whats most funny is everyone saying the film would flop and it being one of the best DCEU films, or at least most profitable. And even if people criticize it , what the fuck have they made or created. I just think people were mad it didn't match their expectations of commercial failure. .

    • He had the hardest job of them whole movie having to sell Orm, I mean the man invented ridiculous. I went from hating Ocean Master to loving him all because of Wilson

    • I thought he was gonna deliver an epic quote to convince the crab dudes to join, but he proceeds to say the cringiest line ive ever heard

    • Oh he was chewing scenery and lovin it.

    • Patrick Wilson is one of the most underrated actors working today.

  • Marcus has updated his score on this movie. 7.5/10

    • Where? When?

    • @Lowan On the video "watching my reviews" or something like that. On Letterboxd it's 4 stars

    • @Tomek Stec it’s not on letterboxd

    • Marcus very slowly falling in love w this movie LMAOOOOOOO

  • 3:34 Marcus questioned on why Aquaman used a “shield” to deflect bullets when he is already invulnerable to bullets. Understand that depending on what level of strength u are as a suphero even if you are invulnerable to bullets to a degree you’re still going to feel pain from the impact maybe even get pushed back from it, such as how he fell down after Black Manta shot him.

    • or maybe its like the situation from invincible where one of the mauler twins got a bullet in his eye so they used a cover when they were breaking out to protect their face and vitals

    • stop shielding this abomination

    • @doro𓁹𓂀 Exactly, because some Superheros have different levels of how bulletproof they are. Superman for example be taking shots like nerf bullets.

    • @cristian kp it’s got nothing to do with defending it’s just stating facts of how some of these superheroes work

    • @McStacheo LLC just kidding

  • I have to disagree with you on T’Challa loosing the fight with Kilmonger, “because the plot needs him to lose”. He loses that fight because he’s struggling with his feelings of empathy for his cousin, whom he not only finds out exists but had a shitty life divorced from his culture directly because of his father who he idolizes and had just died. He doesn’t want to kill his cousin because he feels guilty not only about his fathers betrayal but because he is realizing that his ancestors’ policy of not sharing their amazing technology and remaining secretive has been detrimental to the rest of the world. On the other hand Kilmonger is solely looking to kill him out of a lifelong revenge plan. The reason why he’s able to defeat Eric at the end is because he is able to speak with his ancestors, including his father, and confront them about their bad choices, decide to do better, and realize the type of king that he is meant to be. He goes into the last fight against an overly confident/arrogant Kilmonger, with help (he was alone in the first), and a sense of who he is as a leader. He has forgiven himself and reconciled his guilt and plans to move forward and make changes. I’m not saying the plot of Black Panther is the best, most original writing out there, but it does deserve credit where it’s due.

    • A summary of that whole thing would be nice but ok.

    • Dude he didn’t have the power of the black panther in the first fight against killmonger and he does in the second

    • I regret pressing "read more"

    • @Trent Clarkson Which he has partially because of the help he got.

  • The process you went through in this video slowly realising you actually liked this movie is exactly what happened to me. I was so taken off guard when I realised how much fun I was having lmfao.

  • One of my favorite things in criticisms of superhero movies is when they talk about heroes shielding themselves from bullets even tho they are bulletproof. Sure the bullet won’t kill them but you gotta think it still hurts. It’d be like if someone shot at you with a paintball gun. It’s not gonna kill you but you really don’t want to feel pain.

    • Actually no, there's a bunch of characters who wouldn't feel anything even If you detonate a bomb capable of collapsing a building in their face, Luke Cage for exemple, of course not every hero it's that tough but Aquaman fist fight anciant sea gods bullets should be nothing to him.

  • The whole movie I was expecting Willem Dafoe to be a bad guy.

    • In the comics, Vulko was supposed to be the bad guy who tricked Orm into invading the surface but that didn't happen in the film.

    • Willem Dafriend :)

    • "YOU AND ME AQUAMAN!"

    • Me too!!! I thought he was gonna stab Aquaman's mom or something

    • @Espurr TheStupidIdiot You an me, we're exceptional. Think of what we could do, together!

  • See I can’t help but LOVE this movie because it’s really cheesy and kinda cliche and it feels like a comic book story come to life. In my personal opinion anyways. The flaws aren’t so bad that it’s unenjoyable or distracting to me.

    • That’s exactly what it is🤨🤨🤨🤨

    • I feel that way about the suicide squad , a movie that is proud of being a comic book rather than been a shamed of the silly stuff

  • I actually have a secret crush on this movie and I am glad Marcus likes it too. Man it's so cheesy and stupid, but man is it just so damn fun.

    • Fr, when you watch it you kinda know how the story is gonna go, like, you know they are going to scape the city, that Aquaman is gonna find his mom, etc... But the way they show this things makes it fun, I knew he was gonna find his mom but I didn't expect to see dinossaurs too

    • after that first action scene with atlanta on the house, i was on board. Long shot action scenes are my weakness. Great movie to watch over playing a board game rpg or smth with friends

  • Shows that James wan is an amazing director. He is one of the few directors who can go from dark horror movies to badass comic book movies. Sam Raimi too. Snyder can’t and he should stick to dark horror-esque movies and leave comic book movies/characters alone. Superman isn’t dark and brooding, he is a sweet charming nerdy guy whose biggest weakness is not kryptonite but his love for humanity. Henry cavill is more superman in real life than he is in the movies. Even Snyder’s aquaman is boring than the movie aquaman, props to James wan I really like his work.

  • As someone who doesn’t even typically watch superhero movies, Aquaman wasn’t a bad watch at all.

  • I like the way Heath Ledger portrays his Joker when talking to characters because of how sincere he seems. None of that serious "gonna kick yo ass" tough-guy-talking face (I know that's never been his style in particular, but you know what I mean). He looks like he's really trying to convince the other party "this is going to happen - please don't fight it".

  • This video should be titled “Marcus trying to convince himself that he doesn’t like Aquaman for 30 minutes straight”

    • JYSA the hero’s journey

    • It’s a terrible movie but it’s more fun to watch than a boring superhero paint by numbers like captain marvel or captain America

    • @Das Boom I didn't really hate Aquaman, but I'd definitely rather watch either of those films 10 times than tolerate Amber Heard and Dolph Lundgren deliver the worst performances known to humankind.

    • "(Tsundere mode)" for short

    • He's really biased when it comes to DC vs marvel

  • 15:21 I'm not sure knowing Pinocchio lore is a valid measure of intelligence. It is in fact plausible for one to know a lot about the Roman Empire and little about Pinocchio.

  • the "ocean master" guy actually wanted to fight the crab people so all the clans could unite and send a powerful wave to wipe the humans. So there was reason, and if the movie was half a hour longer everything would be explained.

    • I dont think the movie being longer would have necessarily aided the coherence of the plot, Perhaps it would have been a better idea to remove some scenes that served less overall purpose to the film like the ones with Curry and the woman with the red hair who's name I dont remember. edit: Ok Curry can stay because he had more thematic purpose than Black Manta did. By the looks of it black manta is also going to serve a minor role in the second film which begs the question why include him in the first film in the first place.

  • I actually like the fact that it's predictable. I like knowing the characters I got attached to are going to survive. Idk movies that have more tension and stakes and violence stress me out, I'd rather watch this cute fun action movie.

  • 13:30 He "lost" to killmonger because he was merciful. he lost there to show you the difference in their personalities. T'challa won for a second but spared him. Kilmonger on the other hand was brutal and efficient. There's visual story telling there in how the characters express and move that explains this.

  • I always felt that Orms reasoning for hating the surface was him blaming them for losing his mom, like IMO its's made pretty clear that Orm was bitter about Atlanta getting murked, and Aurthurs mere existence is a reminder of Atlantas death because she was executed for having Aurthur in the first place, not to mention Aurthers human half is what he clearly hated the most about him, it always made sense to ME anyway that yeah "pollution bad" but also "My mother chose the surface over my father a HUMAN stole her away and had a son before i was born, all because of that HALFBREED fucker my father executed my mother it's the surface's fault fuck humans imma dumb fishman with mommy issues" idk just my thoughts

  • I love the way while roasting the Aquaman movie he roasted the Black Panther movie at the same time.

  • Admittedly I haven't seen this movie since it was in theatres. But I do remember that the Brine (aka the crab people), and the rebellion against King Orrin's war against the surface world are talked about and lead up to before it happens. idk how you missed out on that (especially as you probably had to rewatch this movie as part of the editing process).

  • My one problem with this film was always Black Manta but now that I know he’s the reason the submarine attacked Atlantis I don’t mind him. He’s only in the story as much as he needs to be as opposed to TASM 2 where all the villains kinda just keep showing up out of no where.

  • Wasn’t the other reason Ocean Master hated the humans was because since his mother married a human and that was the reason she was “executed” he felt that humans were responsible for her “Death”. Granted I haven’t seen the movie in a long time, but I feel like you missed that part Marcus.

  • My favorite part of this entire movie is when they're like "we have to go to Africa!" and they immediately cut to them walking across the Sahara or something to Africa by Toto.

  • The most frustrating thing about this movie is how clear it is that James Wan wanted this movie to be good. It's visually impressive, the fight scenes are dynamic, the costumes are all amazing, and the actors are all doing really well with their roles. But the script is just SO BAD that there was nothing he could do to fix it short of a total rewrite. And that sucks.

    • Yeah i agree but idk about the costumes man... kinda bad lol

    • When I watched this movie me and my friends were yelling at it everytime people were talking Then the big final fight scene happens and I'm like "YEAH FINALLY SHIT IS HAPPENING WOO" AND THEN THEY STOP TO HAVE A ROMANTIC CONVERSATION AND A KISS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE GIANT WAR AND DESTROYED ALL THE MOMENTUM OF THE SCENE AND I SCREAMED

    • @MaxtotesRules Eh, admittedly some of them are pretty terrible. But Orm, Black Manta, and the Atlantean foot solders have GREAT costumes, IMO.

    • @Wixhael You named the worst costumes lol. They look like budget Power Rangers enemies. Except Orm.

    • GameZedd01 they look awesome, especially Black Manta. It’s straight from the comics, it’s obvious Wan wanted to embrace the camp of Aquaman while also making it badass.

  • The prehistoric dinosaur demension where he finds his mom is just How to train your dragon 2 LMAO

    • I thought it was actually taken from journey to the center of the earth by Jules Verne.

    • I don't get this reference because I'm older than 15 LMAO

    • @kshaur13 Maturity isn't growing out of animated movies, it's growing out of the notion that adults can't enjoy animated movies. HTTYD slaps.

    • @LordMangudai aiite mang

    • @kshaur13 also just to be pedantic, HTTYD 2 has a target audience of roughly 10 to 14 and came out in 2014, meaning people watching it in theaters as part of the target demographic would be around 20 years old now

  • That Nite Owl add in during the screaming compilation scene killed me 🤣

  • I am new to this channel not a hater and wanted to say I have spent the last two days watching your video and I love it. Funny and honest. Always a relief to have it just down to earth and real. Keep it going.

  • i love how Marcos has an actual character arc in this video

  • Humorous, insightful, and a superb job editing. Sorry to have to use a trope ("shibboleth" truly is unwieldy) but you rock.

  • “Exposition scene interrupted by an explosion” Explosition.

    • I read your comment and now both 'explosion' and 'exposition' have ceased to look like real words 😶

    • Basically, every DC film done by WB since 2012. I don't even consider them movies. Joker is the same shit, it just replaces some explosions here and there by Joaquin Phoenix doing some "cool" stuff to show us how he does like to steal time in front of the camera.

    • That sounds like a cinema sins line

    • exploshibboleth

    • I know where this comes from xd

  • Honestly, I love this movie. It's just 2 hours of (dumb) fun. So much stuff happening, so many cool visuals. I also like how it doesn't take itself seriously, it doesn't require you to think. Just relax, grab some pocorn and enjoy the ride.

  • 1:36-1:51 I, personally, think the Marvel Studios movies aren't bland at all, and that they have plenty of director personality. The Guardians of the Galaxy movies are very different from the first Avengers movie. The Thor movies are very different from each other. Captain America: First Avenger seems like something straight out of the time his comics were first published, while Captain America: the Winter Soldier seems almost like a spy movie. While some of these examples are different from each other because they mix the superhero genre with various other genres(the superhero genre is great for genre mixing) a lot of them still carry the signature of their respective directors. The Guardians of the Galaxy movies are James Gunn films, Thor is a Kenneth Branagh film, Thor: Ragnarok is a Taika Waititi film. That being said, the Marvel Studios films are still similar enough that they seem like they take place in the same continuity. The DC Cinematic Universe films don't always do that. Shazam doesn't look like it takes place in the same continuity as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Aquaman doesn't look like it takes place in the same continuity as Justice League(despite the fact that the title character in the former stars in the latter). So, in that way, the DC Cinematic Universe movies are often more differentiated from each other. But, to me, that doesn't equal the Marvel Studios films being bland and lacking in director personality. It equals them being more coherent as an interconnected franchise. I also feel like the Marvel Studios movies tend to be more consistantly good than the DC Cinematic Universe movies. I know that saying they have more good movies can seem unfair, since we are comparing a franchise with 23 films to a franchise with 10 films, but that also means they had over twice as many chances of screwing it up and making bad movies. By percentage I also think Marvel Studios have made more good films than the DC Cinematic Universe has, at this point. If you still disagree with me then that's fine. Everyone's entitled to their own personal tastes and opinions.

    • Yeah I didn’t really get that either. Up until recently all the DCEU movies were made with Zack Snyder’s vision. They all have the exact same look and feel and most of the characters act the same, more or less. Not until they started making Birds of Prey, Shazam, and the second Suicide Squad do we start to see some humor in DC movies and those are the best DC movies as well. Maybe not birds of prey but the other two are.

    • @James Jordan Honestly, I like Birds of Prey. It's not the best DC movie, but it's fine.

  • See what he didn’t take into account is that this movie has a Pitbull song featuring an Africa by Toto sample as the main characters fly into Africa. If he’d seen that detail earlier, he would’ve saved himself a lot of time and just seen this for the cinematic masterpiece it is.

  • “Warner Brother actually lets directors do whatever they want for the most part” Me: _*clears throat*, “so there’s this movie called Justice League…”_

    • *most part*

    • Didnt Snyder step away as his own choice, and they brought in Whedon after that?

    • there's this movie called suicide squad

  • You had the exact same reaction I had watching this. First half felt slow and story being forced then suddenly we get Terrifying Sea Monsters and actually entertaining story

  • "DC lets their directors kind of do whatever they want with their movies." Me: *Stares at Suicide Squad*

    • Or JusticeLeague

    • @Manu CiFrusta Justice League is the Frankenstein's monster of movies, two separate directors give it severe tonal whiplash. I do think it would have been bad without two separate directors doing their own thing but it is not a director does anything they want.

    • I mean in a way it was probably because of Suicide Squad that the DC movies have gained some independence from being meddled with by the higher ups, a bit. But who knows, maybe after the whole lockdown they'll go back to their usual antics.

    • Suicide Squad was frankensteined by WB. David Ayer had a different vision for Suicide Squad

    • *for better and for worse*

  • This whole video had me holding back a "You like Krabby Patties don't you, Squidward?" type of smile.

  • And now I remember why I loved that movie. It was so dumb. And I totally forgot the explosions interrupting every conversation. That's brilliant. Obviously the Kaiju erased most of the weird stuff into one big ridiculous scene.

  • Ok but “not knowing Pinocchio is based on a book” and “monologuing about the history of the Roman Empire” is literally me

    • You know what? I believe you.

  • 13:21 The reason why T’challa initially lost to killmonger is because he wasn’t trying to kill Killmonger while Killmonger had full intention on killing T’challa. T’challa had an opportunity to Killmonger when he knocked him on the ground but he wanted Killmonger to surrender. Also, it should have been obvious that Aquaman is only one that could control sea animals since it was never demonstrated that other characters could do the same.

  • "But then the scene gets interrupted by an explosion!" This sentence describes like half the scenes in this movie. I think it's because the director doesn't know how to end scenes.

  • This movie has a million flaws, but somehow, it's still quite enjoyable and likeable

    • I mean what can you say? Good action scenes make a dumb action movie more enjoyable, who would have thought? Lol

    • Elalae La dude,wtf

    • @Left Sheppard oh boy you are what i call strong willed human and that itself is a superpower

    • endgame has entered the chat

    • Bc u probably like easy to watch movies and just saying theres nothing wrong with that

  • This is exactly how I felt about it. Such a great commentary. :)

  • 20:23 The battle didn't come out of nowhere. There's a whole ongoing subplot about how Orm orchestrated the whole 'attack by surface dwellers' thing to unite the undersea kingdoms against them with himself as king that weaves throughout the story. He got Mera's dad and his people (Xebel) side immediately with Orm. Orm forces the fairly peaceful Fishermen to join him through force by murdering their king. Which brings us to this point where Orm is using the force of the three major kingdoms he has control over to force the Brine (the crab people) to accept him as king. The Lovecraftian beasties (The Trench) are also an undersea kingdom but they're feral monsters and Orm knows better than to even try to conquer them. Which is why he's seriously WTF when Arthur shows up on the Kraken with the Trench following his lead. This setup was all very much covered in the movie. A war against the surface dwellers wouldn't make more sense because Orm doesn't **care** about the surface dwellers. They're his excuse to establish dominance over the undersea kingdoms. That's what he cares about, and that's why the film's major battle revolves around that. P.S. It's possible I've already made this comment but I'm not wading through 11,000 comments to find it. :)

    • Why does he look like he's fighting some of the trench in the all faction battle scene, if he controls them

    • @꧁Spicy Meatballs II: The Spicening꧂ Great question. That was probably a production error. But it's easy enough to headcanon it as some of the Trench being too feral and going out of control. He can control unintelligent sea life, and he can communicate with intelligent sea life. The Trench seem to be somewhere on the border.

  • ‘Wait, am I supposed to hate Amber Heard now?’ Aged like a fine wine

    • I don't like both of them and I don't like how streamers grifting the Trial.

  • I laughed so hard at Jason's power stance, young Jason's acting, and all the explosion during exposition. How you always find the most funniest dumbest shits in movies is beyond me. LOL

  • James Wan is the modern Sam Raimi and in terms of tone and style, Aquaman is the modern day equivalent of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man.

  • "The Marvel movies are kinda bland" *Shows Thor The Dark World* That's just cheating, dude

    • I think Thor Dark World gives me the same feeling that Aquaman does for him. It's not great but I think the visuals and action sequences make up for its lack of ... purpose for existing

    • @Antiform I cant compare the 2 thor dark world is extremely boring and the villian is forgettable and the visuals are bland, but atleast aquaman has nice visuals and villians

    • He talks about the fight scenes in marvel movies being bland a lot, that's how I took the point.

    • @Amazing Jay I agree. Infinity war has some awesome fights. I especially like when Thanos dropped a moon on Ironman haha. But generally the MCU movies have as Marcus put it "two guys doing karate" with a lot of camera movement and a million cuts. There are exceptions of course.

    • @Amazing Jay Wasnt that the point though ? Infinity War is kinda begs the point of being a over the place event. I can see if it was something like the Winter Soldier Helicarrier event but Infinity War isn't a grounded thing. Just my two cents

  • “Pollution is bad” “Yeah. I know it’s bad... because Captain Planet told me so” I fucking love Marcus

  • 3:36 in the clip you clearly see Arthur getting hurt by the bullet. He didn’t get injured obviously but it probably still hurts him. Kind of like a nerf dart lol

  • I remember watching this movie in the theatre and saying the word cliche so many times and my friend and I was laughing so hard

  • 14:05 Being that this movie was made and set after Justice League, it doesn't make sense that King Orm would have a massive Atlantean army in the tens of thousands, but only have a handful guarding the Mother Box with Mera. With all of the other inconsistencies, particularly the cartoonish pastel colored armor and laser guns, I'm surprise Josh Whedon didn't make this one too. Also, at 14:30 the chase soundtrack being synthwave feels stolen from Thor: Ragnarok that came out a year earlier.

  • Her name's Atlanna, not Atlanta. And most people don't believe Aquaman is actually from Atlantis. And they think Dr. Shin is a crackpot conspiracy theorist. Presumably you've never read Geoff Johns New 52 Aquaman comic run this movie is largely based on. Most of what happens in here is taken from his run. And it absolutely BUTCHERS the source material. Aside from turning Arthur from a serious and stoic hero into a dumber than rocks dudebro, they took like 4 different storylines and crammed them all into one movie but give none of them the time or respect they deserve. The Trench (the Lovecraft monsters as you say), the search for Atlanna, the Throne of Atlantis, the seven kingdoms (okay, this one was never actually made because Geoff Johns never returned to the Aquaman title). All of them were full storylines that they could have made entire movies out of. The Trench especially would have been awesome to see as a full movie.

  • *For Years, DC:* "No. Aquaman isn't a guy who talks to fish, rides seahorses, and wears a garish orange costume, anymore." *This Movie:* "Yeah he is, though."

    • aaaand he looks so f* cool doing that!

    • YOU CANT ERASE UR BOI PETER THE PUPPERFISH

    • @Silver Crewmate by enlisting Jason mamoa

    • @Silver Crewmate he always was.

  • You make a lot of great points man. You know when your right your going to get a lot of peoples entire egos crushed and cry out for mommy clutching to their binkies.

  • 10:11 “...and now we have another exposition scene interrupted by an explosion. ... Okay what’s going on here, guys? Am I gonna have to start asking you guys some questions?” *Well yes, you can, but as soon as you start getting an answer the room will blow up.*

    • By the end of the movie, I was waiting for an explosion scene to be interrupted by exposition.

    • JAJAJAJ

    • Oh come on thats ridicul- *explosion*

  • Shibboleth is my new favorite word! I'm addicted to your videos, thanks for giving me hours of fun stuff for me to hear while working long hours 💙✨

  • Its ok marcus, I have encountered this feeling before saying I don't like how My Hero Academia is just doing what usual Shounen genre does, including Black Clover in the mix as well. But it is exactly when the writers and directors are aware of it and do the absolute best they could to bring out what we actually like about these genres that makes you like it the 2nd or 3rd time you watch it. You coming to accept that you like this movie is awesome!

  • Agreed. Seeing him realize this movie is good is a joy to watch. Keep it up man. Love the Chanel

  • This movie is bad because Jason Momoa kept getting more and more dressed. He starts off with no shirt and shoes and by the end he has a completely covering costume with a high neck.

    • The sequel will be a race for the Mighty Headscarf!

    • should be the other way around

    • I'm just wondering who paid u guys cuz this movie in reality is awesome 🙂

    • @MCMXXI Paid? Odd thing to say since it's their opinion, but I agree it's an decent movie, but I honestly believe they should'e done the solos first so we can be more emotionally attached and connected. If ya not really connecting to them or attaching, the movie wont draw ya attention. However I believe it could had done better, I'd say more but I forgot the details lmao

    • @CaptainFlowers lol well said they should've done that

  • Literally everything he pointed out was why I kinda wanted to hate this movie but instead made me wanna say “awe”and pinch its cheeks. And finally someone addressed teenage Arthur’s acting. I wanted to laugh so hard when I saw that scene in the theater.

  • He uses the shield because even if he's bulletproof, he still feels the pain, like Wonder Woman that uses the bracelets for the same reason.

  • The line about Jason Mamoa's stance made me burst out laughing - priceless!

  • I'm gonna list off a few problems I had with this vid: "cliche" doesn't mean bad, Aquaman not knowing that Pinocchio was a book doesn't mean he can't know about roman history or whatever (knowledge and intelligence are different things), Orm hates humanity because pollution AND his mother running off to the surface and having a kid with a human meant that she'd essentially be executed so he sorta blames humanity for that (more of an emotional thing than a rational thing), Orm yelling at crowds to hype them up is amazing, the crab people were mentioned along with like all the separate kingdoms. Lots of flaws but it's a fun movie and the fact they used Aquamans' most "trash" power be the reason he could earn the trident was amazing. Also all the costumes are great, very cheesy but comic accurate.

  • Having arthur challenge orm to a fight to the death and then lose and escape really makes aquaman look like a dishonorable silly goose.

  • "he doesn't know that pinocchio was based on a book but he talks about the roman empire" finally a character I can relate to

    • :D

    • Lol I relate so hard and feel that this is less “intelligence fluctuating” and more “he knows cool historical trivia but not some other trivia and that’s okay.”

    • Yeah I don’t really get that complaint. Arthur is dumb in the movie yeah but he learned history. I feel like knowing about history is different to being smart. No offense historians

    • @Burco Presents different people have different interests. You can ask me about some old kids book and I might not know it existed but give me some historical trivia or ask me anything about Magic: the Gathering, and I’ll tell you more than you probably wanted.

    • @Some Random Guy on the Internet yep that’s what I was saying. Just because he knows history doesn’t mean he has the time to know about Disney books lol. His parents probably taught him about history because he’s the heir to the throne.

  • People are too critical and pay too much attention about what to hate about a movie, just watch it and enjoy it. It wasn't the least enjoyable movie in the world, I thought It was thrilling -acting and a few things you can't miss

  • Although I'm a Marvel fan, Aquaman impressed me. It's the best DC movie I know. What's wrong with clichés? If they are used/filmed in a good way, everything is fine. There is no need to reinvent the wheel. If other films/books already used good elements, then it's ok to use them too. As I already mentioned, I'm a huge Marvel fan. But Black Panther is one of the weaker films. I didn't like it.

  • I stopped watching Aquaman when the octopus was playing the drums. It was too Viva Rock Vegas for my superhero-movie tastes. Great videos ! Just discovered you today but can’t stop watching your content. This is my 3rd video already, so I can’t wait to see what’s next! Keep up the great work!

    • is it worse than a giant ant playing drums?

    • @marlon clark yes actually. I felt they set that up better. I guess I’m just picky. But when I saw the octopus playing the drums, it came off as incredible dumb. When I saw he ant playing the drums in Ant man 2, I thought it was clever. “What are you twelve?”

  • Aquaman is the Himbo of movies. Big, fun, pretty, dumb and charming tied in a nice bow.

  • I'm not sure you were really paying attention, but Tchalla loses the fight because he's used to fighting people while being the black panther. The point of those fights for the throne is that the black panther gives up his power beforehand so that he's fighting as a human. And in that context, Killmonger's experience and being an outsider definitely comes in handy and it makes sense for him to defeat Tchalla.

  • Marcus: I can't say "cliche" anymore, I need to find a different word. Me: Trope, homage, commonplace Marcus: *Shibboleth*

    • A worthy Adage

    • The usage of which (in this context), proves its meaning:-D

    • You made me wheeze

    • To be fair, shibboleth is an awesome word

    • Shibboleth in no way means cliche.

  • I was literally beside myself with laughter and it started like 1/4 and/or 3/8 into the video and I had so much fun! Totally worth the subscription,

  • If you put Willem Dafoe and an octopus drummer in the same movie it overrides everything else that happens. Acting, writing, effects and camera work don’t matter anymore. It becomes a masterpiece by logical necessity, the same way 1+1=2, if you judge it as such, you are not expressing a personal opinion about a movie, you are only acknowledging a fundamental fact about the universe we live in.

  • Say what you will, i watched this film in theatres, TWICE. I was already a fan of James Wan, and his horror films and this surprised me. Mostly cz of the visual spectacle it was and loved love stories in it ✌️.

  • I personally really relate to not knowing Pinocchio was based on a book but knowing the history of the Roman empire

  • I know my comment is a little late here, but in my opinion this movie has to be analyzed on different level due to the fact Aqua man is one of those comic book characters/stories that’s almost impossible to pull off the pages. And they made it work. I mean seriously having dialogue underwater, talking to fish, Atlantis, etc. Black Mantis scene with Depeche Mode playing while building his suit was pretty bad ass but other than that the movie could have done without him.

  • "Vegeta's in danger" "Me, my son or the planet" "YES!"

    • *BLAST* "Freaking smartass"

    • Actually its my son, the planet, or me 🤓

    • @DZA's Cave ah damn it been a while since I watched TFS

    • “My son, the planet, or me”**

    • Dragon ball fan here.

  • this movie is awesome by all accounts. It knows its cliche but rides with it and gives some of the best action set pieces.

  • I didn't really like this movie but your video was hilarious!! I loved it, could listen to you talk about anything for hours!

  • “Call me ocean master” and the crab just looks at him with the most innocent and confused look. I’m dead😂

  • I loved this film and I went into it wanting to hate it. It's just too much fun.

  • I think the introduction for Mantis and his dad would have been better if they had the tender moment before the pointless murder, his dad said something which makes the next part more poignant, and then Mantis stabbed the dude with the ceremonial knife. Instead of, 'these murderers are people', it'd be 'these people are murderers'.

  • "Why does no one believe Atlantis exists despite all the obvious evidence and many experts" is a bold take to have during a pandemic that some people believe is a hoax.

    • "pandemic" lol

    • Honestly, when people have a hard time believing the moon is real... I dont doubt shit

    • Especially when the only actual evidence of a place even being called Atlantis is a short piece of writing that is only a fraction of what Homer described of Troy. That 'evidence' is clearly a Hellenized account (like ancient Greek white washing) of an Egyptian story that lost a significant amount in the retelling.

    • Same thought, people belive wqhatever they want to

    • Batflip 09 you can't take a selfie by a virus either.

  • The director got annoyed by his power stance: so he made an explosion out of nowhere

  • I usually disagree with you, but you’ve really opened my eyes about this movie’s flaws, which is why I watch your videos.

  • i love this video. i like how he is confused wither to like the movie or not. this makes us engaging in video. we become curious that makes us stay . also i like how he made a relationship between the word cliche. its became an inside joke for viewers
