This could be MY cat. My vet told me she is a F1 cat meaning she came from a long line of feral cats. I've had her 9 years now (got her when she was only 2 weeks old & had to be bottle fed) & she still growls, hisses, swipes her clawed feet at anyone, but she is what she is & I love her.

We just found 2 kittens (about 8 weeks old) under our deck a couple weeks ago. They were feral. I have been working with them for the past 2 weeks building trust with them. For the first week they hissed at me, one bit me and scratched me up pretty bad. I was bleeding everywhere. But now they let me hold them and love on them and they purr like crazy (Mind you, they are kittens). Im doing my best to domesticate them so we can successfully re-home them. I wish we could keep them but we cannot. A full grown cat such as this one is going to take some time (if ever) to tame him/her. It can be done though with a lot of patience & knowledge. ❤

My cat is a beast. He's Mainecoon and Russian Blue, so he's massive an pure muscle. He will f-up anyone he doesn't mess with, and HATES being held. When we take him to the vet, he lets the vet do whatever. I fully expected him to go insane, but nope. He was chill as a cucumber, and I'm still shocked and proud of him, when I think about it.
Working for decades with feral cats, yup this is exactly right. Anyone claiming cruelty has never had to fight with a feral cat to give it medicine because it was suffering. Sometimes you have to be the bad guy to be the good guy. Edit: so many armchair experts who seem to miss the part where I said that I have worked with pet and feral cats for DECADES.
I wouldn't even say it's being a bad guy to be a good guy. Really, handling a cat like that is not hurting it one bit, every single mangled up position it ends up in is done by it's own moments, all the doctors doing is just holding the back paws together with the front, while the other dude scruffs them, give a sedative, and boom angry kitty is now somewhat easier to work with. I'll bet there's some cats out there that require some stronger stuff that's quicker aching if ya know what I mean

My cats are very noisy and cry when i care for them but they never hiss and scratch at me. My oldest only ever hissed at me once, never attacked. The second will hiss and grumble all the time but only does that, shes just sassy. The youngest will swipe but shes gentle. But god they try to jump away all the time. Luckily i have full control over my babies. And yes for any non cat owners the neck grab is like magic. Mama holding is like us cat owners super power when they get real feisty

And, that would be that he lazily used stainless steel locking clamp pliers without a bite cushion. He absolutely should have used a flexible soft plastic hemostat or a bite cushion. He could have very easily caused a cracked or broken tooth, which is painful, and necessitates an expensive surgical intervention. Just imagine biting down hard on stainless steel pliers. Not nice at all. If circumstance allowed, there's also a couple things that could have been done differently to minimize the animal's stress, but otherwise it was fairly par for the course.
This is sometimes true for all animals. Kindness doesn't always look as one expects, and it is not uncommon for any creature that is panicking to attack its rescuers. Just ask a lifeguard...

@SYou have no clue! That is NOT abuse. The cat is not being hurt and the vet tech is not being hurt. The extra skin on the back of the neck is where the mother cat picks up her kittens to move them. The DNA makes the kitten go limp and dangle quietly so predators don’t come after them. That behavior stays with them forever. It is called scruffing the cat. You can get the cat to calm down using your hand to scruff or putting a wooden clothes pin on the scruff or picking the cat up by the scruff and letting it dangle. DNA sends a message to the cat , “ mom safety be quiet!” What you saw is so far from abuse it’s laughable!
