Now I am just remembering the story of the guy who noticed his wife's personality changed and she wasn't being as affectionate and was acting weird so he hired a private investigator. After a week the private investigator watched her so hard from a distance that he started to notice weird ticks she would do and because he watched a lot of medical shows he ran up to her and told her he was taking her to the hospital because she was exhibiting signs of a brain tumor. Sure enough she had a brain tumor and he potentially saved her life, she got it removed and went back to normal.

I had to hire a private investigator for a criminal case i was wrapped up in and the shit he figured out from just pictures alone was absolutely nuts. Because of his work, the entire case, which was shaping up to send me to prison for the rest of my life, was thrown out in its entirety with prejudice. He basically exposed that the 3 year long investigation was rife with illegal searches and seizures, actions taken far from jurisdiction, and department wide targeting and retaliation. Shit was pretty crazy and some of the worst moments of mine and my families lives.
So what happened? Did you Sue the city and the department? How did you find a pi that you were able to trust?

I left a cult and was followed like this for almost two years. At some point you figure it out and become so paranoid. I changed my job and was too afraid to make friends because they might be working with the PI. I would "randomly" spot my PI, which made things even more stressful. I don't know what information they gained from me, in fact I don't even know if he's been replaced by someone else or if they finally just let me go after years of trouble. PI's can turn your life upside down.

I disagree for stalking someone for money as a job is very different to some psycho stalking you for some exual thrill or other nastiness. The emotions involved in the 2nd would lead to mistakes and strange facial expressions.

I think the scariest thing about this is that you would never know. Any one of us watching could be stalked by someone but as long as they wear different clothes and don’t follow you on consecutive days, you’re probably not gonna notice the same guy in random places.

It is terrifying. Was in a lawsuit with my city and they hired someone to follow me around to show that my shoulder is not as injured as I claimed to be. It was weird seeing videos and pictures of my apartment mailbox with my name, me walking to the station and recording all the way to work in the city, with pics of my work doorway. Luckily I didn’t say I couldn’t use my shoulder at all, just limited on how much weight I can carry.
The first time i saw myself on cctv at my job to review my productivity, i felt like i was experiencing a sort of surreal out of body experience. Like i was doing things out of habit and i was moving alot slower than i had imagined myself in that moment. Watching me move for a solid 10 minutes was so weird. Idk if this feeling is normal. Like I've had recordings of myself but never a view of moments that my brain just tunes out.

That's actually a really good way to find out what a stalker knows about you without you saying anything

A good PI doesn't work alone. Hence guessing the identity of the PI only compromises one of them. When the suspect is aware of the tail, its a tactic for the team to allow the suspect successfully "shake the tail". Most regular people, once they lose the PI, will rush to do the thing they're trying to hide, while they have the chance (seeing a mistress, moving a missing object, etc). Meanwhile the 2nd tail gets all the evidence. Hardened criminals are known to corner and pen in the first tail in a dangerous situation to see if the rest of the team will mobilize to get him out. That way they can see more faces to ID. Then they try to ID which agency employs this group of people, and so they know who to hit and how hard. Syndicates will just have cops on their payroll find out who is following them.
Can confirm, just got done a job 2 weeks ago that had 3 of us following a guy for 10 hours of non stop driving. We bunny hop every 10-15 minutes or so always keeping a few cars between us and the target. Generally keeping track of not only the target but each other as well by gps.

Turns out someone hired a private investigator to watch me for almost 3 years. I never found out who hired them, but I’m assuming it’s someone I pissed off back in the day from gambling. I faintly remember said someone thought I was cheating/rigging a game of blackjack and said they’d “catch me some day”

Here's the story: For a while shed notice a bright neon green car following her and her kids around. One day she got fed up and went over and knocked on his window. He rolled it down Her:"What are you doing here" PI:"Im a PI" Her:"Who hiered you?" PI:"Your ex husband" After that convo we never heard from him again.

There are some months where it would be nearly impossible to get a shot of me. I work from home and they might get a shot of me at my front door getting Amazon or Instacart or DoorDash deliveries. But probably not because I have a narrow entryway to my house. I have a gym room, fully stocked woodworking shop, office, art studio, bar, and theater room in my house. Why would I leave? My car battery often dies because I don’t drive it enough, lol.

@SlyKing They're not "above" the law per se, certain laws just do not apply to them. Private Eyes can do things and go places that regular, everyday people do not have legal access to. But they do.
@Ishmachiah that is false, we have to obey all the laws just like everyone else, more so in a lot of cases. If we break any law to obtain evidence, chances are not only do we risk losing our license but the evidence can also get thrown out in court. Following people is perfectly legal so long as it doesn't create danger. Generally, getting caught following is what will cause danger. Most of the time it will just result in getting stopped by police, on rare occasions the person we follow can try to do stupid maneuvers to lose us and cause an accident. In that case we could be held partially liable for damages.

Because they are profesionals with a license? that can be revoked and land them in jail if they ever do something that crosses the line? A pi with any ethics knows not to touch certain cases. For the most part we won't follow ex bf/GF except in the case of child welfare. Most of what we do are things anyone can do legally, we do have to get licensed and certified in order to get paid. The most important thing in this line of work is what's called the plain view doctrine. Basically if you are out in public or I can see you from a public area I can snap a photo. Same way a cop can stop you if you have a crack pipe sitting on your dashboard, or say you grow pot in your living room with curtains wide open, visible from the street.
Well the investigators only keep an eye and collect information from a distance, I assume most of which is easily accessible to everyone who has some skills. They don't go questioning who they're tailing or interfere in their lives. They don't possess any threat to their safety, no harassment, no kidnapping, no threatening, just observing.

How can they be certain they havent put their target's life in danger just by disclosing their location and habits to someone with ill intentions? Don't be so naive, it takes a morally bankrupt person to make a career out of invading people's privacy
@Just a Student it’s not an invasion of privacy, it’s information collected in public that anyone could get if they wanted to. And there are legitimate use cases, like investigating fraud, cheating or kidnapping.
