  • Not enough upside down action for you? Here's a clip of Flintoff rolling a hearse: cs-tv.org/tv/video-CdlLHpMFXMw.html

  • I don't give a damn how staged this is. It's hilarious every time.

    • It's staged so damn well

    • ikr xDDD even after all these years still gets me everytime xDD especially the part when he arrives at 3:14 xDD

    • I watch it every year or so and die each time.

    • I care that it's staged, I can't even enjoy movies knowing they're fake. only real shit for me Edit: since people are dumb, I feel the need to clarify this comment is a joke.

    • @Thom well then im honestly sorry for you

  • I like how Jeremy associates Sheffield’s population decrease to people being killed in reliants.

    • And their Dental records apparently 😭 (His joke, not mine, mates 🇬🇧🇺🇸)

    • Well some of them also moved up south

    • @Kimg Komg “up south”? Which way do you look when you think of south?

    • @Alfie Vines South

    • @Alfie Vines 😭

  • I love how that one guy was hammering down the fact that as long as you never turn and always drive straight, you have the greatest car ever made.

    • They actually corner realy well in reality. Sadly you never see them in action. in the UK there are a few guys still having fun with them

    • @Mr Jed69 I can only imagine XD

    • Doubt

    • @Mr Jed69 As long as you slow down to 10 mph?

  • Naming this call "Reliant" is like naming a ship "Unsinkable II".

    • True only if described ship was intentionally built with holes covered with duck tape.

    • Holes below waterline of course

    • Technically you can always rely on it to tip over

    • Well it is very reliable. It does the same thing every time.

    • The manufacturer is Reliant, the car model is called "Robin". Its the predecessor to the Reliant Regal (also a tri-wheeled car)

  • I like how even Mr Bean is so disgusted in this car that he always ram it

    • Mr bean has an opinion that reliant three wheeler car is the most ugliest car every so he decide to bully him whatever mr bean see the reliant three wheeler.

    • Yep but the blue three wheeled car in mr bean is a 1972 reliant regal supervan 3

    • Mr bean drove an og mini. His car game was absolutely fine

    • @Alfonso Tobias gamer better looking than the mini

    • It's actually a mystery.. In some episodes he always meets that car with same number plate and in Tee Off Bean it stops for him to give him a ride but he feels scared and declines it.

  • The news reporters weren’t concerned for the safety of clarkson in the crash, they were excited that they could finally film a reliant crash

  • Rumour has it, The Stig can actually drift a Robin Reliant.

    • ... and that his personal robin has four wheel drive.

    • Some say the stig managed to own a robin reliant for six years with no accidents until he sold it in 1985

    • The stig earns an award for that

    • Not The Stig. He's The Stig's Reliant Robin driving cousin

    • If anyone could drift a reliant, it would be The Stig

  • Jeremy just going “oh no” everytime he’s fallen on his side is the funniest shit

    • nah nah he can't be mad, its just expected of a robin (yes i know this is scripted)

    • Oh no! Anyway

    • @Saddex Productions lmao i like how thats literally what he does this video

    • Especially when it comes to a complete stop lol "Ohh No."

  • I think this was the peak of Topgear, theres no way the BBC could get 20m+ views on something now. Only those three could do it

    • What about doctor who tho

    • @Toad I stand corrected

    • @spaghetti woah a person on the internet that’s not an ass nice to meet you good fellow

    • And the BBC destroyed Dr. Who as well sadly. Well, that’s just mho.

    • Yea

  • I have seen this so many times over the years but is pure comedy gold.

  • 6:52 Staged or not, it was always hysterical whenever Top Gear got other areas of the BBC involved.

    • Yeah, the Peel P50 trundling along behind the newsreaders in the BBC studio was always a favourite of mine.

    • The RC cars on the One show too!

    • Felt oddly illegal. Hilarious

    • RIP Harry Gration

  • I remember when this episode first aired, I was laughing so hard that I pulled a stomach muscle 😂😂😂

  • The fact that he kept on running into random 70's and 80's celebrities based in the heart of England just never gets old 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

    • @Daniel Wiewiór I know its scripted, I've been watching this show for 15 years, I'm not stupid.

    • Malachi Robbins oh nvm i just saw he realizes that :)

    • @Niagara Drones! no u

    • @Daniel WiewiórI think _you_ are the one who dosen't jet the joke, kid.

  • This was the first I ever saw of Top Gear... inadvertently laughed harder than I ever had in my life... and became a lifelong fan. Jeremy going out of the driveway with triumphant music and immediately rolling it while just saying “oh nooooo,” caught me so off guard that I’ll never forget it 😂

    • First thing I saw was Ford Fiesta chase in shopping mall and beach landing with troops, couldn't believe what I saw seeing.

    • I don't remember what I first saw, but there being cars brought me in. The humour and stunts have kept me here since.

    • this is exactly how I was introduced to top gear hahaha

    • Monish Raj.K

    • My first exposure to TopGear was Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May attempting a garden renewal with fresh shrubbery and a water feature...while destroying everything they touched. I laughed so hard, I hurt for a week. It was like watching the original Three Stooges with English accents. Of course, Clarkson's deadpan delivery of all the dialogue made it even funnier ~

  • 3:07 Him driving up and flipping it in front of them has got to be one of the trolliest things I have ever seen.

    • He may not be the first. Notice the other Robins in the background.

    • At 3:10 I thought he said: "... I *rolled* over to chat to some enthusiasts." 😂 He actually said "I pulled over" though, so that's a bit of a missed opportunity, me thinks.

  • This is something you’d think you’d see in a cartoon. It’s positively comical.

  • If Clarkson crashed the reliant robin horribly, imagine what Hammond would've done

    • i would have loved to see sabine schmitz driving it around the nürburgring.

    • To be fair, Hammomd is about half Clarkson's size. And that car just tips the scales around 850kg/1000 pounds. You add a big oaf like Jeremy and that's going to be a major deciding factor. I honestly think Hammond couldn't outdo him if he tried.

    • CLarkson is 4 times Hammond's weight so a lot easier to do for him.

    • He'd have binned it big time.

    • What about James May, you can't leave him out.

  • When this episode first aired, my sons and I rewatched this episode and laughed until it hurt every time! One of the best Top Gear episodes ever!

  • This car is a physical shitpost. It's entire existance is a joke, and I love it.

    • Nah that's the Hoffman lol

    • Toori Baba no. Like comunist

    • It’s quite amazing they couldn’t figure out to put the 2 wheels in front

    • @hill billy The point is that you don't need a full driver's license for it but just a license for a motorcycle.

  • they had so much fun filming this, you can just tell.

  • These 7 minutes are better than the entirety of new top gear, and it didn’t even include Hammond or may.

    • I have to agree!

    • Very true

    • Because the new top gear is just a car commercial

    • @Matthew Arnold bingo

    • @Matthew Arnold correct me if im wrong, but wasn't the pre-MayHammondClarkson era of Top Gear also just a car commercial? (except it wasn't as pretentious as new Top Gear)

  • I love how nonchalant and calm some were at seeing this death trap topple over on its side. No trouble to help push it back right side up. This is hi-larious! 😄😄

  • Scripted or not, it is one of my all-time favourites.

  • 3:06 his entrance was brilliant 🤣

  • The only vehicle LESS stable than a motorcycle.

    • Motorcycles actually get more stable the faster they go, in general

    • apart from the p45 obviously.

    • @Robert's Wrecks unlike the rel.robin

    • My mom keeps on telling me to not buy a motorcycle. I don't think she's ever heard of a Reliant Robin.

    • Fr now what's the point of this car?

  • 0:07 I love how calm Jeremy sounds when he yells "Oh no." as he tips over. lmao.

  • "To try and understand why the Robin was so popular up north, I pulled over to chat to some enthusiasts" 3:15

    • And crashes it, of course. Only the end was better

    • *immediately flips over*

    • Barrel Roll!!!

    • That was super hilarious, what an entry with such presence 🤣🤣🤣

    • And notice how all the reliants in the background are also flipped lol

  • Rolling a Robin into a super fancy, modded Robin--still one of the best surprises in a TG episode. Gets me every time.

  • Some say The Stig's personal Reliant has a four wheel drive.

  • I love how polite he is while asking for help with his car flipped lol

  • I just imagine this really awkward time in the 60's and 70's where you'd be walking down the street and see about 7-10 of these on their sides with very unhappy drivers asking for a push.

    • Imagine if the police used these haha

    • +Cosmic Twix reliant robin police chases

    • +der Führer you'd see the criminal flipped side ways and the cop 10 feet behind them flipped also saying "Get over here!!"

    • +Amy lol

    • +Cosmic Twix lol

  • 0:32 I love how he honked his horn just in case the guy didn’t notice a three wheeled car flipped on the side of the road. XD

  • 10 years later and still funny to watch 🤣

  • 10 years later, this is still probably my favorite bit.

  • Others: it's a reliant Robin Me: it's the car Mr. Bean often destroys

    • As a continental european I have to correct you there: (Almost) Everybody: Oh look, it's the car Mr. Bean used to tip over. Brits: Oh look, it is a Reliant Robin Mk. II. I would say it is an SLX build in 1994 or 1995.

    • Agree🤣🤣🤣🤣

  • I absolutely love that Mr Beans nemesis is that blue Reliant. He bullies it until it rolls every chance he gets!🤣

  • Top Gear just looks like the most British show ever from an outsider’s eye

    • It used to be. Without the old crew it's not fun anymore though.

    • I see... so when hes not out nuking pirates for the world government the light man watches Good ol Top gear. Thats why i like em

    • Yeah, it was, which was why it was one of the most popular shows in the world.

    • Most british show? You haven't seen The Great British Bake-off, or Time Team, or Sewing Bee then. And certainly there are more shows that I haven't seen either

    • No it isn’t most British people are too intelligent to watch this stuff...

  • Most funny video I've watched in last 2 years here. While I barely smile on a top class comedy movie, I burst out laughing during 7 minutes. Well done Jeremy!

  • Lol, the two blokes waking about not exactly concerned even appears surprised someone in distress in an over turned car is calling for help. Just flips him over, doesn't ask if he's allright and carries on as if nothing happened. That made me laugh a lot more that it should have.

  • So funny how he rocked up to the reliant robin club, by rolling it in front of them..haha brilliant.

  • The first time I saw this on TV I didn't quite get it. Being American I didn't know what _Top Gear_ was, so at first I took it seriously. But by the third rollover I started to suspect a certain dry British wit. Watching it now its hilarious!

    • This one, the one where they drive through Africa (OLIVER!!!!) and the Vietnam episodes are my favorite.

  • I've seen this many, many times and it still makes me giggle like a kid.

  • "how do you drive a reliant?" "In a straight line."

    • VERY slow, wide turns

    • @Zyri Antel or what you do is stop, get out, pick up the back, turn it to the desired angle, get back in and drive off.

    • Ween you are Driving a reliant, you need to know you are driving a very risky car, so you need to avoid the curves

    • 1000IQ

  • The greatest show and hosts there was. They got me into cars as a kid. Irreplaceable. RIP Top Gear.

  • The fact they survived is surprising And the car still working is a miracle

  • The Reliant Robin is a very unique car. Also I want to point out how Jeremy hilariously drove around in it

  • The realism with this show has always been one of the best aspects but I can never stop thinking about the fact that there's a production crew and cameras around all the time.

  • Jeremys northen accent when used now and again is comedy gold

  • Missed opportunity on their part to NOT include Rowan Atkinson.

  • Jeremy falling back into his roots along with a northern accent 😂

  • This segment is amazing, the editing is just perfect

  • The fact he pulled up to the reliant meet sliding in his side made me laugh

  • The namesake of this car is exactly accurate to its performance; you can absolutely rely on it to topple over on even slightly sharp turns.

  • This was the first ever segment on the first ever episode of top gear I watched. I was hooked immediately

  • I can't stop laughing. I can't believe this ever was legal to drive anywhere.

    • They buggered about with the diff to make it roll easily.

    • The team actually modified some things to make it more unstable, for the sake of the show. In reality, you'd be hard pressed to get these things to roll.

    • Jeremy actually told the people backstage to tamper with the differentials so it would fall over no matter what. The car was actually quite stable otherwise...

    • To the responses - whether the show buggered with the "diff" at all (lol@ the guy who pluralized it), I can guarantee you I could roll this car almost as often if driven daily how I normally drive.

  • I lost it when he 'rolled' straight into the Robin meetup

  • The fact that it can flip so many times and still drive is really impressive Edit: Only just saw the roll cage!

    • They fixed the car to make it unstable. The programme is all fakery.

    • @Cowabunga Kumquat They would not have dared to pull the stunt if the company had still been in existence and in production because I'd consider the programme pretty libellous.

    • @Andrew Wigglesworth it’s literally a humour show lmfaooooooo

    • @Andrew Wigglesworth Libel is print. This is just having a laugh

  • Seems like such a train-wreck, yet it's so heartwarming to see those enthusiasts, they really gild the lily 🙂

  • Jeremy's accent is noticeably more northern when he's talking to the Robin enthusiasts and driving around Yorkshire, than it is in the added audio commentary (as well as other TG episodes) :D

  • 5:46 - 6:28 this whole scene made me cry when I was 10 and it still does

  • When you design a car specifically for your mother-in-law.

  • Loved this when I first saw it and love it just as much now. Top Gear was never the same without, Jeremy, James and co. Don't mind the Grand Tour.

  • I usually don’t watch this type of video but glad I did because that part at 2:05 where he starts driving up the wall on accident is hilarious

  • When I saw this as a kid I had no idea it was all staged and counterweighted to make it flip more. Still hilarious

  • My dad had a Lada for a short time when I was a kid. We never got in an accident so I can't say how tank-like they were but there was one time my dad cut a very sharp, quick left turn and I swear that thing popped up onto just the driver side wheels. I've tried to talk myself down over the years and say that couldn't be possible but now........ Also, it constantly stank of gasoline and it's a rare Russian car here in Canada so he always had to wait at least a month to get parts shipped.

  • There's never a dull moment when there's a reliant robin unless you're the person driving it

  • Top gear isn't the same without him, Hammond and May.

    • Top Gear is still a running show!? Lol no ones gunna watch that without them.

    • Stopped watching it when they left. Just watch the old clips now - still as funny as ever.

    • @SteeVeeDee don't worry watch the grand tour

    • master_dragon bite yt that ended ☹️

    • @TurkisTurkey ツ no it didn't

  • I love how he says 'we pulled over to talk to some enthusiasts' Then he just flips and slides 'ello'

  • Love that when he rolls it at the convention you can see five others tipped over behind him

  • I've watched this video so many times, it's hilarious. Almost as funny as jeremy with the peel p50 driving around the BBC office 😂

  • I can’t stop laughing at this episode this is one of the best ones yet😂😂😂😂

  • British car Designer: How aerodynamic do you want this car to be? Reliant Robin: *no*

    • It doesn't even work as a damn joke

    • Herbert Norkus I mean at least American cars make it work (we had cars that looked much better than the Reliant Robin and handled much better too)

    • This is the Mr. Bean car. Not Mr. Bean's car but the blue car that always drifts into something when Mr. Bean is around.

    • I think the real issue is the very small, single, and centered front wheel which controlled the steering, as well as the car having much too small of a wheelbase to make turns at speed. For a car from the 70s, it's aerodynamics are fine. The body style seems like early 90s cars, and it's pretty small

    • Like a belligerent brick, please.

  • The people at the start we’re gonna walk past like it’s a normal thing you see on a morning walk 😂

  • I love the way narrator explain, that engine upgrade was catasthropic.

  • Hearing Jeremy Clarkson do a northern accent is probably one of the most northern things I have ever heard 😂

  • Clarkson talking about this on QI was also hilarious.

  • This was one of the first instances of the repeating gag I can remember from my youth. I burst out laughing every time he crashes even though I know it's coming

  • Mr Bean's most hated car.

  • Reliant Robin: *Literally rolls over and skids down the street* Everyone: "Just another Tuesday"

  • The truth be told, these Reliant Robins were altered by the show to make them far more unstable than they could ever be from the factory. They are not near this unstable.

  • I’m amazed that the window survived.

  • This is why the original top gear was brilliant! The humour.

  • This was comic gold.

  • The reason why it's called a _Reliant_ Robin is because it's reliant on outside help.

  • They say this Robin was rigged, but even without the rigging, it's still prone to rolling over.

  • I have heard that this particular vehicle had weight added to one side to make it more likely to roll, although I cant imagine even an unmodified one being particularly safe

  • Pretty hilarious how the building at 6:22 looks like a car on its side. Totally unintentional I'm sure, but *this* is the essence of True Art.

  • Давно я так не смеялся. Это лучший выпуск.

  • Final flip at the end instant classic

  • Robin driver: flips* Everyone else: OMG!! Are you alive in there?!?!? Robin driver: gee golly would you look at that, i beat my personal best sliding on my side here.

  • 3:15 I love how other reliants in the background are on on their side

    • Never noticed until now, amazing

  • Thanks for sharing. The entire Aptera Team is doing amazing work. Charge on!

  • Didn't had a laugh like this in years!🤣🤣🤣🤣 Legend!!!

  • I should mention that they weighted the car to flip easier for the show

  • Gosh I don’t know that I have ever laughed harder. They are so ridiculous it’s great. 😂

  • "I pulled over, to chat with some enthusiasts" Cut to them immediately rolling the car over

    • Not an ominous person I laughed so hard

    • hahahaha that was funny!

    • The witnesses don't even look half surprised XD

    • Fuck i died of laughter 😂😂😂😂

    • That's the specific way to say hello to Reliant enthusiasts.

  • THANK YOU 11 years later! I haven't laughed like this in ages.

    • Are you still laughing 😃 11 months later? I am!

  • I’ll never forget how hard I laughed the first time I saw this bit

  • One of the BEST bits of classic Top Gear was this piece
