As someone who glitch-hunted/ran this game right at launch its wild to see how much is the same and how much its changed. I remember when "kobe-ing" the ball in mermalair was just a pipe dream lol

Crazy how the original Battle for Bikini Bottom speedrun relies heavily on the cruise bubble for cruise boosting while in Rehydrated, you only use it for the final boss.

I just love how in the Battle for Bikini Bottom speedrun, you need the Robo Patrick fight to unlock cruise boosting, which is essential to the run, then in Rehydrated, you skip it entirely. Perish Robo Patrick.
god I hated that boss, he's a pain in the ass without the Cruise Bubble
I'm a little surprised how much love went into this game, especially in an era of cash grab games
I liked the Taxi Glitch before the game got updated where you could just warp straight to the final boss from the beginning of the game. This run feels more technical and involved, though.

yah yah! I played it as a little kid on ps2 and it looks so cool now but the older look is still so nostalgic!

Would love to see a speedrun of the movie game, was my favorite spongebob game as a kid. The speedrun for this game back on patch 1.01 was stupidly broken, you used to be able to skip all the way to the plankton and sponebob boss, game would give you all the abilities automatically when you did the skip.

you should definitely go back and check that go-through-the-wall bubble-bowl glitch; could be used for some crazy out-of-bounds skips

As good as this video is and as fun as this game is, if I hear that taxi hail whistle sound effect again, I might scream lol
The only experience i have speedrunning rehydrated is day 1 when you could press a/x and space bar at the same time and just instant warp to the final boss
God, I remember playing this game when I was super young. I got stuck in the jellyfish fields at some point and moved on to a racing game lol.
I got stuck at the freaking merman cave part 💀 turns out I had to collect some stuff that I didn't even know existed

I’m happy you played this game, I really wanted to see it be speedrunned. Because there was a guy who made a video on the history of bikini bottom speedruns and the game looks really fun to speedrun.
Kelp forest being overly decimated with one glitch feels so right - least favourite level for me and I always tried to do all other places first and got all spatulas so that I could spend the least amount time in Kelp forest
Extremely broken is a heavy understatement. This game in specific is very special for speedrunners

the amount of times this guy says "barely" is insane
as someone who has never played that, this seems accurate.
the "duplicate" sock in sand mountain is actually due to the cutscene sock being separate from the gameplay sock, and the devs kinda just... didn't expect you to stand on the spot where it drops down. so you're collecting a sock that was meant to only be a cutscene object, not a collectable sock. also the glitch with the Downtown wheels in other levels isn't directly making the game thing the objective is complete. it makes the game think just for a moment that you have 11 of the level-specific collectable for whatever level you warp to, and that's more than enough to make the quest giver give you the golden spatula. technically this can be done between any two levels with such collectables, but downtown is the most useful since it has 11, the most out of all the levels.
"They love bubble buddy, but I guess I love bubble buddy too" This warms my heart.

14:53 actually if you hold the left trigger on the remote it will sneak so you can save a small amount of time there
Seems perfectly balanced to me.

Fun fact: when on the switch if you hold z or zr( I think one of those if not the other two buttons on the top) and then you can walk whole automatically sneaking.
I can’t believe how much this speedrun has changed I swear I watched a fairly typical run like a month ago and at least half of these tricks weren’t in it, just insane how much it evolved even if some of these tricks were already known I could never have guessed that the spongebowl could be used to make SpongeBob spin in normal form, or that we apparently now just completely skip robo Patrick, I also was not aware of that.
This reminded me of the rocket power game (I think on GameCube or PS2?). Not familiar with speedruns of that game but I'd love to see you run that

For some reason Rehydrated looked gross to me until I saw this, I think the bosses changed my mind
its 4am on a weekday and i'm watching a Spongebob speedrun i think i messed up in life
As funny and great this video is my first impression glancing at the video as I scrolled was a picture of a big SpongeBob as a thumbnail and read "some of us are extremely broken" as the title and I've decided I need to sleep like now
So I beat this game on ps2 back in like 2006 and when I got rehydrated I used the same tricks to beat certain things lol.

@Havok321 I've been able to emulate BFBB on my Samsung Galaxy S8+. Didn't run the best but with like 5 frames of auto skip it actually was pretty nice other than the occasional lag spike.

There was a menu glitch that could take you straight to the end of the game but I thinks that's only on version 1.0

There actually is a way to press sneak with SpongeBob while using a controller by holding the left trigger and avoid having to slightly press the stick!

see what's even funnier is the fact that on launch you could pretty much skip the entire game by using an exploit to travel directly to the chum bucket at the start

You guys ever wonder if devs watch speed runs of their games to find glitches? Like some of them don't ruin the game and are helpful only for speed runners like the weird jumps he keeps doing but then there are game breaking bugs they've found before that ruins the game.
