  • In its current state, it feels like you are babysitting someone learning to drive and it feels much more stressful than just driving myself.

    • It’s much better than your average new driver though!

    • @wrxdrunkie no it is not.

    • True

    • I only use it on long routes, and it’s damn good with that too.

    • Good analogy

  • That was the most stressful drive I've ever been on . . . And I wasn't even there. I think I held my breath a few times. Thanks for sharing with us Marques!

    • Same! I always felt that self driving was a risky endeavor, but this video made it clear. Self driving is definitely not for me!

    • wrg, no stress x etc nmw

    • Those suspensions.. ouch

    • hearing Marques sigh at 4:30 out of nervousness has me anxious too

  • As an engineer I’m both impressed by the tech and horrified by all the possible scenarios that someone not paying attention or trusting the vehicle too much could encounter that would/could be deadly!

    • thanks for letting us know you're an engineer

    • @EspressoIsDrugsthat’s true! If all cars are self driving it will leave 0 room for human error. The cars will always know where it is and what is around it. I hope they can implement this in the future for now I can only dream :(

    • @EspressoIsDrugsNot really, you can see that it has problems with stationary objects as well.

    • @EspressoIsDrugsonly if they could communicate with each other

    • @EspressoIsDrugsi see what you mean. But then all perons that walk or make bicycle would need to be robot too :) !

  • Please make updates every few months to see how it's getting better! Best unbiased FSD test ever. Also great to mention "embarrassing" driving of FSD, which is not really acceptable even if the car does it right.

  • As someone who just bought a new Model Y and didn't buy FSD, I'm honestly pretty impressed with the lane changes shown here- especially with what its able to do on the highway. I don't know if its $15,000 safer but it does appear relatively safe to me with an attentive driver at the wheel.

    • You can add it for $199 monthly, though, correct?

    • Wow, that’s a heavy fee for a software block 🥲

    • @OctoPrpl it is some pretty insanely engineered software tho

    • So much anxiety watching this video 😂

    • Your choice is correct.

  • I’ve been curious about these cars for a while, but what really drew me in is the way you guided us with your thoughts of it through the process that made me want to keep watching start to finish! Good job! 👍🏻😎

    • I noticed this too. He consistently kept it as an engaging conversation, not a single moment of silence, and all in one take. Pretty darn impressive.

  • Currently driving across country with my FSD beta and I got to admit its pretty impressive for what it is and it does help me beat the boredom of driving itself but everytime I hop in this car I always have the same thought floating in the back of my mind. We squandered the train. A side thought though whenever I pass through a state that rains or snows, the cameras are rendered completely useless locking both FSD and Autopilot, so I’m curious what the work around would be in order to fit that strange future Elon musk pitched (like a middle schooler telling his class to vote for him for class president and he’ll throw a pizza party). Guess in Elons mind california and Texas are the only 2 states that exist.

    • Hey a manual car you’ll keep yourself occupied the whole trip if that’s your issue.

    • @alexpakha not on the highway you'll get to 6th gear amd then it's the same shit lol

    • @alexpakha On the highway you basically always stay in the hightest gear unless there's traffic slow downs or you need to take an exit.

    • How come it doesn't use lidar or radar anymore

    • @TheMarvelous Oh they removed it. A "cost effective" "genius" idea from our lord and savior Elon Musk. He's so smart we swear.

  • It's a lot better than it was 2 years ago. In rural areas it works great , it's in cities that it struggles a bit. The thought is with the data Tesla is collecting from every beta tester, it should improve "exponentially". Pretty amazing and it's far ahead of its competition. My guess, it could be really good 3 years from now.

    • This would be great for the US, idk how good it'll be in places with less Tesla drivers tho. Idk how good it'd be in a place like London either tbh

  • One of the most important things to do when driving is it behave “as expected.” This changes by region (due to cultural norms) and also by road conditions. I think the embarrassment you’re feeling is partly that same sense of what is currently expected of you by others. When the car drives differently than a human, that strangeness isn’t just uncomfortable, it’s legitimately dangerous to put the onus of reacting to the unexpected on other drivers, even when technically correct.

  • Great video, Marques. I wish there was a way to dynamically tell the car how assertive it should be at any given moment, like for example pressing the accelerator pedal. I'd love to try FSD, but I'd use it specially on highways or stop-and-go, like you mentioned. It's pretty obvious that the car struggles with intersections, particularly the crazier ones.

  • This was massively impressive. Yes I know it was far from perfect but what an astonishing feat of software and hardware engineering to produce a system that can perform like that. I can see that completely autonomous, and safe, self driving cars are within reach.

  • The stress you feel when watching the car do strage things and deciding when to take over manually is similar to what happens in the cockpit of a modern airliner. I'm always on alert to anticipate things my jet will or won't do.

  • I feel like this video is a great representation of how good Marques is as a tech reviewer and CS-tvr. Sitting in a car that drives itself, one take, no cuts and still having a great and fluent monologue about the car, the traffic... Great watch!

    • 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

    • What really makes him great tech reviewer for me is his honest openion based on what he experiences .. I totally trust his evaluation to any current tech. So do all his subscribers and viewers . I mean u cant pay him to cheat . Hes not that kind of a guy . I think if he wasnt then tesla would've payed thausants to make him view self driving as total future and a totally trustable tech

    • @Cos Andreaswhat’s funny andreas?

    • @Frosty I was bouuta say that, buddy is tweaking 💀

    • The man discredit a lot

  • I would use it but only for long trips since majority of that would be highway anyways and as he said it does fairly well on the highway. City driving is so dynamic and ever changing with various traffic patterns, driver behavior, construction, pedestrians, etc and don’t currently trust the car to do well in those conditions. I live in the Midwest and travel to Florida quite a bit and this would be extremely useful for those trips of the most basic, monotonous, boring, draining driving. Definitely couldn’t trust it enough to not pay attention and look at scenery or my phone or anything like that but I wouldn’t have to constantly move my hands and feet

  • Hey MKBHD, Just curious about a thing or two… did the FSD beta learn from the couple of disengagements the next time around on the same route? Not sure if you put them to the test again. Also it would be interesting to see it’s prowess in foggy, rainy, snowy conditions like you mentioned…. An Alaska or Lake Tahoe trip on FSD will do… ;)

  • I really hope this tech continues to grow. This gives hope to someone like me who, while technically I can drive, it wasn't until recently that I was cleared (due to vision). I'm watching everything around this tech and I truly hope that it doesn't get killed. This could potentially give freedom to folks who aren't capable to drive themselves.

  • Very good demonstration and excellent narration. The added stress of NJ driving, which I am very familiar with, makes it seem too stressful, like someone else described similar to teaching a learner how to drive. I believe that you are actually contributing to their data, and helping to train their FSD software so it is literally that!

  • Gosh, the feeling as if i am the one driving. That was the most stressful drive I've ever been on . . . And I wasn't even there. I think I held my breath a few times. Thanks for sharing with us Marques! Peace and love man, all the way from Namibia

  • I think this is the best video I have seen on fsd, showing the stress you are under, even when it is working as expected. When I was teaching my daughter to drive, this is exactly what it felt like. You are nervous, ready to intervene but desperately trying not to.

    • Great comparison. I actually tell my wife that my Tesla drives better than my daughter. She only has her permit. And for good reason! I seriously feel safer in my Tesla on FSD than I do when she drives.

    • Dirty Tesla has a great video with his wife that shows her nervousness with it

    • He was rarely over 40 miles an hour. Didn’t really have much to be so nervous about.

    • Hopefully soon this will be lowered as trust increases.

    • Haha. Yea but that's how I was with my first experience with active cruise control, until I got used to it then it became relaxing - I miss it when I don't have it now. Could be the same here. After a bit of practice and getting to know its limitations it might be fine.

  • Thanks for the great video Marques. I wonder if Tesla engineers are properly programming into the autopilot how dangerous big speed differences are. Sometimes stopping and slowing down increases rather than decreases risk...

  • I tried FSD on my Model 3 for a month and I agree that it was super stressful. Basic AP is amazing for long highway drives but I prefer driving “manually” almost everywhere else.

  • My daughter and I really enjoyed this, it was very interesting. In the future, I expect all these connected cars will talk to each other so FSD should be less stressful

  • I at one point in my life taught drivers ed. I know exactly how Marques feels. Even if it gets it right 99% of the time, there is that 1% of the time the student decided to drive into a cone, change lanes WAY too late and miss the exit. When he wrestled the wheel back from the FSD, is exactly what I had to occasionally do with students. While it is cool FSD is working at all, 99% is still a flunking grade (hitting cones while taking a driving test is an immediate flunk). Hopefully they can get it 100%

  • MB videos are so insanely wonderful. Dudeman just launches into this fascinating demonstration and keeps my interest with commentary the whole time.

  • Years later and you still seem to be one of the most trustworthy reviewers out there (tech and otherwise). Keep up the good work!

    • He lives in New Jersey, so dissapointed in him

    • He's been pretty biased a few times which made me unsubscribe but this video is nice anyways

    • @MrPetabyte Why did you say that?

    • @MR. IDEAS In a few videos he seemed to be biased towards apple and kind of personally annoyed by google which made his videos feel biased and not just about the tech and it's features but way to much about what he feels like and not what's actually the case

    • Sadly he didn't fully inform himself before making this video. He said that he had the car in "assertive" mode but that is for FSD beta, and in the highway he had navigate on autopilot (the inferior version) enabled and the settings for that are in another place.

  • Thank you for taking us for a ride & for your review of this self-driving beta 👍 To answer your question, I would not trust it as is to drive me around by itself, but its good that you have the ability to take over & I'm sure it can still be lots of fun at this stage in its development. I think the main stressor is other people's patience while the system learns (maybe a sign or a sticker might help?🤷‍♂) Having said that, We're all looking forward to it's development & just the fact that self-driving is a thing is very exciting! With the help of AI I'm sure cars will be driving us around autonomously before too long is my prediction & if all our cars can talk to each other on the road, that'll make things even more seamless. Side note: I wonder if they made the right move switching to just cameras.🤔

  • I wouldn't feel comfortable using this feature on surface streets or in unconventional highway situations (like the construction zone or the narrow>wide>narrow tollbooth area in which you encountered trouble). I think this beta is an important stepping stone toward a driverless future, but for now it's usefulness is limited to those with long, straightforward commutes (or tech CS-tvrs showcasing gee-whiz party tricks-I mean that in the best way, of course, Marques). I really enjoyed the video as always! Thanks for doing what you do!

  • What a stressfull trip. It is amazing how the system handles this environment pretty well !

  • My heart beat went up dude!!!! But I guess it's a really good starting point for something this big! Auto-pilot is definitely going to be a thing in the future and I'm sure it's going to be even more accurate when more and more cars are equipped with it on the road--better communication between the cars, as in "talking" to and "shaking hands" with other vehicles on the road.

  • That’s the kind of self-driving videos we should see-honest and not speed-up ones. I enjoyed this autopilot review. Thank you, Marques.

    • Thats the ONLY type of fsd videos ive ever watched. 100% honest no edit videos.. not sure what media youve been exposed to

    • some nerd is going to track his exact location

    • @Jay R Call the geoguessr pro players right now

    • @D Myrick Do you know other trustworthy and precise content creators/videos who you might recommend watching?

    • if you like FSD videos like these, you should check out AI DRIVR.

  • This kind of thing seems helpful for long highway drives where not much input is needed except minor gas, brake and steering so it could help to ease the strain of that but otherwise I think it would make driving really really boring, I'm sure I'm not alone in saying that I enjoy driving and operating the machine myself and feeling connected to it.

  • I like the approach Tesla is taking even though it's far more stressful and really feels like you're babysitting a new driver. You also live in Jersey which is no joke so that's kind of a great test case. Great video and glad early adopters like you are helping build this revolution. I like our Model Y with just enhanced autopilot. It makes road trips a breeze.

    • I'd be curious to see this same stress test in Fremont, California or somewhere closer to the Bay Area. Maybe it'll perform better where the engineers work

  • still fairly early days for AI driving and i'm pretty impressed with how it is going so far, the future will be awesome when the tech is fully developed imagine you can go out drinking and when the night is done simply summon your car from home to come pick you up and drive you back!

  • I have to say, based on having watched Tesla's 'autopilot' evolve over the last couple of years, that it has become quite capable considering all of the things it has to see, analyze, and then decide what to do next. I'm not quite convinced that removing the radar and relying fully on cameras was the best idea, but what it can do just with visual situational awareness is amazing. I'm hearing from other owners that highway travel is much less stressful and to be honest, that's where I would use it most. As others have said, this technology is only going to get better with time.

  • I worked with some self driving vehicles while working on a military base. From what I understand, LiDAR doesn’t work well in bad weather, but radar is not affected by fog or rain. The vehicles we used, use the GPS and LiDAR as its main vision. Apparently radar and cameras are just better. LiDAR will help you recognize people and objects, but if your vehicle uses cameras in AI, that’s just as effective.

  • Would love to see you do the full self driving in other weather conditions. As you mentioned it only uses cameras so it would be cool to see it in like rain, or snow.

    • I expect more phantom braking.

    • Lane detection already is an issue in fog, it would be even more erratic.

    • The cameras all have heaters and the rain typically wipes off from the wipers and wind from the speed.

    • @Isaiah Even mild fog in Seattle plus bad angles due to hills cause it to confuse single and double lines separating road directions. I've had issues in Magnolia/Queen Anne where many of the road lines have been rubbed off badly so they aren't fully continuous.

    • @Isaiah How do heaters help with all the visibility issues from snow, rain, fog, etc?

  • As a new driver who just got their license 2 weeks ago, the driving is smoother than me, the acceleration felt comfortable although not the braking. It also has to do with the roads because where i live, the roads are not well maintained. I'm currently a college freshman rn and don't have an access to a car so i might stay like this for 4 more years.

  • Enhanced Auto Pilot, amazing. FSD on city streets is a little scary. I would tell most to pay the $6k and drive yourself in city. Mostly because it makes passengers freak out too often. Good video 🤟

  • Hi Marquez, as always amazing review. I just purchase my first Model 3 in Australia and unfortunately I received it a week after the free month of FSD was offered. My question is does FSD afford potholes and derbies on the road? Does Autopilot also afford as well? Thanks in advance.

  • For this to work, you will need all cars on the roads to be self driven to talk to each other and use a lot of radar information and bigger information ahead.

  • All things considered this is really impressive. As a blind person living in America I really hope this tech gets to the point where you don’t have to do anything at all for it to work.

  • This was a perfectly complex drive to film. I loved how it wasn't too crazy, but just enough obstacles to really challenge the AI.

    • Yes, but at the same time most drives will have at least 1 unexpected thing happen. Like driving for more than 10 minutes almost guarantees you see SOME construction, or at least some traffic cones. I guess less so if you live a rural area Actually now that I think about it, full self driving would probably work amazingly well (probably wouldn't need to interfere even once) out in the country on sunny days.

    • And only 2 traffic violations, or one every 10 minutes! Almost on par with an average honda civic driver

    • Not to be negative but literally every video I've seen on CS-tv of self driving challenges the crap out of it and puts the driver in harms way or impeding traffic. It's not a system you can get right most of the time.

    • @Tyler I live in a rural area in Sweden, trust me when I say that the Tesla would have no clue what to do. There are different unexpected things happening in rural areas compared to city-like conditions. Roads will all of a sudden have no markings, signs will be missing, roads will be missing from the map, some areas might even have gravel roads. I'm quite convinced that full self driving cars will not be a thing until we combine smart cars with smart roads (i.e markers in asphalt, communication between vehicles, government uploading all construction to some centralized road network server etc.). There are just too many unknowns for an ML taught car to deal with.

    • @85Portar In America we have every country road mapped unless it is brand new and it gets added quickly. So rural areas it works almost flawlessly, especially one lane on each side roads. Roads are always painted, some signs missing, but not important ones.

  • Thanks Marques for "educating the car and contributing to the data for us future Auto pilot drivers!

  • I commend you for being able to use this feature on your drive lol. I don’t think I’d be able to handle those stressful situations. This was traumatizing even watching it 😅

  • One of the coolest thing I have ever seen, your narrative from the start till the end where you showed the Tesla's visibility; Without your narrative it would have been scary to watch the adventure. I may sit behind an auto pilot enable Tesla when it passes the offroad test and also not halting behind a truck. Nice narration bro, Cheers for everyone!

  • Nice job. One of the better self-driving demo videos I've seen.

  • I wish he would make an 8 hour video of him on the road, driving or not, and just listening to him talk. This video was weirdly calming.

  • Marques really knows how to keep engagement. I watch this whole video from start to finish without leaving my seat. I can’t imagine he had a script for this either because it’s a demo and he’s reacting in real time. Dude is awesome.

    • you don't think you could talk about a car while you're driving that car?

    • @GeoffreyThe key is to be engaging. The fact that you weren’t intelligent enough to see the nuance in such a basic statement proves to me that you would not be engaging at all.

    • @Geoffrey Sounds like you need some elementary school level comprehension skills. Good luck with that Geoff

    • marques and supporting a transphobic power hungry maniac, name a more iconic duo

  • Excellent video Mark! Would you be able to make a vidoe showing how FSD can perform in weather conditions? Like rain, snow.. etc

  • I have the 2023 Hyundai Palisade with many auto features and I use them all the time. It does require you to put your hands on the wheel far more often, and it doesn't navigate with self control, but it slows down, accelerates, takes turns, and will do lane changes on known highways. It does a very good job for what it does and I do "trust" it and I'm in a rural area with lots of poorly marked roads and still handles them quite well.

  • I did not know I would enjoy 20mins plus of a man driving in a car but somehow you made it even exciting! Your narrating skills and choice of words is excellent. I noticed the beep you did when the police car approached, I wonder why? Also, how you switched the video from camera to phone camera while the audio was unchanged *chefs kiss*

  • You did an awesome job. You're very entertaining while telling us all we need to know.

  • This video is definitely worth our time to watch till the end! Thank you for making this!

  • This is stressful!! Tried it myself on my Tesla almost got rear ended..Kudos to you Marques for trying on Jersey highways.

  • Great video! As an airplane pilot, when people say “don’t you just use the autopilot?” The narrative you gave is exactly how we feel and no one understands it unless they’ve used some sort of autopilot. It can be more stressful using autopilot for us in certain situations as we are essentially just making sure it does what it’s supposed to…so our vigilance is even higher!

    • Argh! My whole life has been a lie! I have always just assumed auto pilot worked perfectly 😮

    • I don’t know why I assumed that. And it sounds like I’m not alone.

    • "Ummm...what's it doing?" "Why is it doing that?"

    • Did you ever watch the movie Flight. It's a good movie.

    • @adriangale I mean it sort of does, if we mean things like sticking to the flight plan during the cruise stage. If you're in an Airbus under normal law (normal, full automation) it's more the plane babysitting you than the other way around - like during the terrain escape maneuver you can do the "pedal to the metal" airplane equivalent and it will prevent the otherwise very likely stall, so pilots just do it and are saved by the automation each time, and it's a regular procedure. For example part of Air France 447 disaster was that for a while there was no full automation (due to period of missing flight parameters), and pilots were "allowed" to stall the aircraft which they ultimately did. In comparison it's certainly more other way around in an aircraft than it is in Tesla right now, not that it's perfect or completely hands-off of course.

  • I loved your commentary and video. What you presented pretty much sums up my daily experience, AI has a long long way to go.

  • This is exactly how highway driving should be done without sudden and frequent lane changes. Safety first! As a driver with over 1 million miles behind the wheel of my truck, I have seen dozens of accidents on the roads mostly from not keeping enough distance as well as sudden overtaking. Where the car next to you that also decided to overtake at that moment may not have seen you. Otherwise, there is still a lot to be desired for the automatic pilot in urban conditions.

  • Marques, this is the epitome of taking one for the team!!! “It’s fine” is code for, “oh crap what did I do?” Brilliant demonstration and monologue!

  • I've watched this video at least a dozen times and probably will watch even more. Because, it kinda shows me a sneak of what's about to happen if AI takes over the world.

  • staying concentrated and alert during this self driving seems a lot more mentally exhausting than just doing everything yourself.

  • Marques is really talented in getting someone's attention even when they don't want to give it. I had no intention of watching a 23 minute FSD video, but I did. Very nice video, explanation and commentary. I can't see myself giving over driving to a computer. At least not in the near future.

  • Did not expect it to score this much. Am excited about future improvements.

  • I think many of us outside of the pristine weather of SoCal have been in a situation where the conditions are bad enough even a human finds it difficult: For example night time winter driving with occasional plowing, falling snow obscuring high beams, no lane markings visible, having to figure out what part of the road cars are defining as lanes, where the oncoming cars are located, and having to follow cars brake lights. I cannot see how self driving can even come close to succeeding in this.

  • ¿Puede ser un auto interesante para personas con algún tipo de movilidad reducida no? Muy impresionantes los avances tecnológicos de estos últimos tiempos!!! Gracias por subtitular el video Marques🙏.

  • I could seriously watch you do this all day lol. It was super entertaining, and terrifying haha

  • I think it would do very well on roads that aren't in a dense city, probably to the point of almost fully trusting it.

  • Your commentary is hilarious. Love how you share your nervousness and fair assessment of FSD. I’d definitely be a regular viewer of your drives to track progress.

    • With current hardware, not much more progress will happen. This will remain in perpetual beta until Elon finds a new CEO and cashes out as much as possible.

    • @Ashan McNealy Jokes aside, if this means eventually Tesla will add Lidar to their vehicles and stop pretending its terrible, it's a good thing.

    • @AbuBakr Akram yeah. They need to add lidar

    • And people don't have that kind of patience nowadays 😂

    • It's gonna progress with time..

  • This is still cool as hell but they have some work to do. I wouldn't do it myself but I'm glad people like you are willing to do the beta. This is real self driving versus the cruise stuff.

  • I wonder if it knows the typical road condition/speed further ahead of you (because it's talking to other Teslas) and isn't being 'aggressive' on the highway because it knows there isn't really any point in that section of road. I also think it would be cool if you drove it manually for the first few months you had it so autopilot could tune itself to your driving style. Overall, I'd buy a Tesla (for the EV torque and the ability to have a really powerful charging brick for all my devices/home), but I probably wouldn't let it drive except for cruise control, having to be aware and ready to intervene all the time second guessing what it's going to do seems more stressful than just driving. I'd view it as a "don't let me accidentally drive into a car in my blind spot whilst I'm merging" backup. More like stall / flight envelope protection in an aircraft (but for cars). I'd be MUCH happier going up in a Spacex rocket, but they don't really have to deal with traffic so not sure it's a fair comparison.

  • I just found this video! You said, "driving like an old lady." Too, funny! 😂 Perhaps somewhat nerve racking!! I've experienced New York / New Jersey traffic as a passenger and I must say, you're very brave to test it in New Jersey traffic. However, you handled it great! I'm contemplating a Tesla Plaid with that option so the jury is still out. You're fun to watch and I tip my hat 🧢 to you. Thanks for sharing! 💯👌🏾💯

  • Tesla needs to make the AI model do additional training based on the driver profile. This would make it less stressful for passengers. Right now, the car drives like someone trying to maintain a 100 driving score - not a horrible idea for initial training, but there needs to be a personalization process to truly be adapted.

  • I think if the errors found are improved its a pretty dope feature to have in a car well demonstrated at that!!

  • The main thing that I learned from this video is that Marques would be an excellent and patient driving instructor.

    • lmao

    • It’s the impatient drivers that bother me like the truck the was blowing the horn at him.

    • @Retro86 Unnecessarily stopping on a roadway is dumb and can be quite dangerous as people don't expect to get to a full stop.

  • Thanks to you @Marques Brownlee for making such a detailed and v informative video. I do trust the self-driving ability of this car but you've to be fully active and looking around even in the self driving mode which is kind of hectic.

  • extremely impressive tech and great potential for the future

  • Nice review Marques, i think ‘s data based about road driving is really updated, more data they have more informed product they can deliver to customers, based on video it seemed reliable enough, ignoring some human intervention during trip, Tesla i think have came that far that auto pilot tech is maturing with more data collection, which is awsume, i luv Tesla products and Elon’s vision.

  • I've gotta say it's not that much different to my travel assist in my cupra leon. And i struggle with the same issues. I wouldn't use this on a daily basis. And i also only use my travel assist mainly on the Autobahn. Guess we still have a long way to go because i only use those assistants to drive more relaxed and get some stress out, otherwise i avoid it because it's just as stressfull as this.

  • On the highway it’s a GREAT experience. Anywhere else just based on how it brakes I wouldn’t feel comfortable just using it by default. It brakes so bad…..like it brakes like my mom…just way to abruptly and often in weird situations

  • This was awesome. Crazy what variety of situations you came across in a 20 minute drive. It was great to witness a full, typical commute from start to finish, and your commentary hit the nail on the head. 🙏

  • Amazing stuff! To imagine how far we have come with technology…

  • Thanks a lot for sharing how it actually feels to be driven by this.

  • Wow! Thank you, Sir! This was enlightening. I really want to get one of these, but I work from home full time, and buying an expensive car to park in front of the house unused most days makes no sense at this point. I was worried about you (at 9:54) when you were in the blind spot of a semi. I always advise my kids to "not drive in people's blind spots, or allow them to drive in yours" and I think Tesla should include that in its FSD AI.

  • I love your videos, I don't know how long it will take for electric cars will take to come to South Africa for the masses and be used efficiently with charging and our crappy power system. I would definitely love to see how self driving would work in South Africa.

  • I think the question for me is would I trust others to use the self driving. I just feel like people would put too much trust in it, and really take advantage of it.

  • I just want to point out that you did a great job talking during this whole thing. I’m not sure if you had a script pre planned so you had talking points or just did a really good job because you’re a natural. Either way keeping an audience engaged with your explanation was top notch.

    • I think it was live! Super impressive

    • Lol, really? He's narrating and adding contextual information. Are you that bad at talking?

    • this is his job..

    • @Pedro Silva Are you that bad at kindness?

    • He’s been doing things like this for a very long time, he’s great at what he’s does. There’s no script

  • That’s the craziest review I’ve ever seen, I think this car will autonomously comfortable to drive on a very long freeways, thanks for sharing this review

  • You mentioned Tesla had decided to transition toward relying solely on visual data input for its self-driving capabilities, however would it not significantly improve the safety and thus reliability for the autopilot model to identify hazards if Tesla were to combine both visual-spectrum camera-data (from all existing angles) with a 90°, front-facing LiDAR sensor? I thought the LiDAR sensor would be better able to detect sudden and hard braking in the traffic ahead and may even help to smooth out the misjudgements such as; the traffic cone blocking the toll booth not being recognised, the car not committing to exit the highway through the narrow space between two areas sectioned off by orange traffic posts, and also when gauging appropriate minimum braking distance for larger/different vehicle types like trucks, etc. when in front of a self-driving car?

  • Amazing job on the video ! As to the autopilot, of course it's far from perfect but damnnnn when you look at the big picture it is unbeliveble how advanced it is. Just think that this is still so early version and I bet most people would not have imagined that even 15 years ago. Once it improves...gonna change our lives. Also I think that technology will do best when all the cars will be on autopilot and they will share the info among themselves. Exciting times :D

  • Marques was fearing for his life that whole time, I don't blame you 😂😂

    • i fear for his life after the video, it shows were the studuo is and maybe his adress, too much sensitive information

    • @Gledston he's showed it before

  • Hey....still catching up on your vids I sometimes wonder if Tesla self drive would work well on American roads because that's where they are developed, but the moment its on British roads (roads I drive) it would struggle more as we have different rules, signs, our motorways (highways) are different and tighter. Then we talk about going over to Europe and beyond, where all that stuff changes again but then driving culture changes as well......i always think brits and Americans/Canadians are quite culturally similar, especially with driving but you go to a country like Greece, Turkey and eygpt and their driving cultures are completely different to each other and ours.(not saying their way is wrong).....so I think its biggest challenge is going to be adjusting to driving cultures as much Also I understand there are other countries that have extremely culturally similar driving and some countries have better driving cultures.....places I named are all used as an example and I am not here saying one way is right and an other is wrong....no offence is intended in this comment

  • I've been running the FSD beta on my Model S for a few months now. It went from trying to kill me 2-3 times on every drive, to only trying to kill me about once every trip. A lot of big improvements in the last few months, but given that I still have a lot to live for I'm not ready to turn it on and go to sleep just yet.

    • 😂 not ready to sleep just yet. Oh man I’m dying from that one!

    • 😂

    • 😂

    • And that's totally expected. Surely it'll became more widely used, evolve over time, and, eventually, kill all humankind.

  • No matter how advanced FSD gets, I can never see myself using it because I like the act of driving when it's just you & the machine.

  • Great presentation of this new tech. Exciting and scary and well done for only 3 interventions. Interestingly it didnt actual come to a complete stop at the 22.00 stop sign which is/was a driving test fail in the UK.

  • Clearly something I wouldn’t toggle on for all use cases. Maybe a drive back home , starting out from a point where I’m kinda close to the house. But most of the time I’d rather drive like a normal driver , this car is amazing and maybe too sweet for me to just sit back and let it decide whether or not it’s gonna screw me over 😂😂😂😂

  • I'm just shocked it does this well already. I know people will say it isn't good enough. My thoughts was it wasn't even SLIGHTLY possible to do any of this.

  • That was one of the best review videos I’ve ever seen. Your personal interaction and observations in the car were priceless. Very informative. Great job.

    • The issue here is more then the car driving autopilot. Its the risks. If we have an car that can drive safely on a road for 10 miles, but does something unusual during 50 meters, a sudden break, a bad steering, anything out of the ordinary for say 1-2 seconds can lead to a car crash, injury, a unexpected family car incident. That what AI is, its steering yes, but if one little goes ascrew, you might lose a limb.

    • basically, if he trusted the AI, he hit those traffic cones , and drive through a toll with a cone, after those incidents we have no idea how the AI would have reacted. prob two crashes during one single 20min drive to work.

    • Totally priceless! I'd have been a nervous wreck... it's hard enough to know when to "nudge" a human driver with words. but to just have options to take control or trust. that's rough. Regarding this exactly: I expect it would have come to a sudden stop before hitting the single toll booth cone. and then he'd have to remove the cone, or back up. manually. Both embarrassing and dumb. And Re the line of traffic cones it was approaching without scooting over... I think it would have run some down... and then stopped. also not good. I was on the edge of my seat watching this the entire time. I know know I should never be a tester for this sort of thing... or even a student driver instructor. :D

    • Minus the fact he can't figure out the difference between NoA and Beta

    • He wasn’t even using FSD

  • I would encourage you to let the car figure out difficult situations, so long as its safe to do so, as this improves the AI

  • Very nice video. One suggestion I have is to have one camera permanently fixed on the instrument cluster screen. That would be more practical than one camera facing you. We can see your eyes from the rear view mirror, I'd really like to see the FSD visualizations all the time.

  • This was the best review of Tesla's beta feature. Thank you!

  • In my opinion, automation of vehicles isn’t something that can happen in levels, like it does with other machines. With vehicles, it either has to be *level-1 automation* (where the driver is in full control), or it has to be *level-5 automation* (where the vehicle is in full control). I think every level in between leads to more confusion and danger.
