When CEO Akio Toyoda issued the company-wide decree, “No more boring cars,” he really meant it. This Prius is amazing.
@bobby hasbun it's breathtaking
@zachary sherry Why?
Well this post aged like sushi in the sun
AKIO IS OUT OF TOYOTA
Toyota is doing everything right , that's why they are #1
The differentiator that isn’t being mentioned is the freedom and flexibility of a hybrid vs. an electric. With the Prius you can still throw gas in the tank at any gas station in a couple of minutes and drive anywhere without considering refueling as a factor in planning.
I want the Prius Prime/PHEV version. Has larger battery that gets you 50ish miles on it then uses that gas when it needs a recharge. I drive less than that on my commute so I’d mostly be able to just charge at home.
@George Orwell 💯💯💯
@1472fred 🙄
Exactly
@George Orwell most EV companies can't shut your car down. If the grid goes down petrol cars are gonna be fucked too. The grid is what allows us to pump gas in the first place and gas will rapidly decay.
I'm actually impressed and surprised with the overall styling and looks on this one.
@ezgin kral agreed.
@win7ermu7e i like taycan dude
@ezgin kral you're still wrong. What are you, an Elon fanboi?
@ezgin kral Why are you spamming the same hater comment everywhere?!?! You must be living a quite miserable life!
@John Nemesh Gas engines are far from obsolete.
One thing I loved about the Prius was the shifter, glad they kept the same functionality, definitely looking forward to buying this year of Prius
@RIDICULOGAN bla bla....
@Bij Dikh Toyota is by far the leader in producing durable engines. But they are 20-30 years behind the Germans, especially in interior design, interior materials and exterior design.
@ezgin kral gee it's almost like the car was made to get good gas mileage and be a reliable commuter.
@ezgin kral Why are you spamming the same hater comment everywhere?!?! You must be living a quite miserable life!
I really hope this sells well its honestly incredibly beautiful
@Rathalomaniac Chan Mio!
@Spooky Yellow the recent hyundai design that i appreciate was only the tucson and santa cruz. Idk man, i really dont like their new design with very long led strip along the front
@YAKARI ya right
@Spooky Yellow personal tastes 👍
I love the new design direction they went with it and the new features its been getting. Can't wait to see the plugin variant when it comes out (can't see there not being one). I hope for a plugin they include a battery that you can get more miles out of it in EV mode.
Too much money for a Prius
the PHEV has like 55% more battery capacity and an estimated 38miles of electric range vs 2021 prius prime 25miles. I guess it will also have better acceleration and regen in electric mode thanks to bigger battery as a direct result of bigger battery (prius electric motors are mostly limited by battery power output, not by the motors themselves)
Imagine a Prius being one of the hottest new cars?! They seriously nailed it on this design.
Id take this Prius over the new Lambo countach
Toyota is always King 👑
@Kenny I do not like it. I do not know what it is. Maybe not sportu enough. I think Model S is there best design, I like the KIA EV6. But to be honest I do not drive an electric car. I drive petrol. And i don't think I will drive electric. The range is not far enough for me. And now a days electric is becoming less interesting for most people in my country, because the energy prices in EU are sky high. Do you like the model ? And why ?
@Marielle What about Tesla model 3 how do you like its design?
The design actually looks so nice, as someone who's driven a Prius V for so long. The increased horsepower improvements is also something amazing to look forward to in the future as well.
It's a good looking car. Interior is gross tho.
Having the instrument cluster there is so extremely handy. My 2010 Civic had it. You don't realize how handy it is until you don't have it anymore.
I am a Prius enthusiast. I have owned two. Love working on them. Reliability and low cost of ownership gets me excited. So yes, the Prius is an enthusiasts car, for enthusiasts of early retirement
I do detailing for a living and I really hope more manufacturers keep doing the Easter egg stuff. It brings me joy and gives me something to do while completing mundane tasks
The last model set was declining because they removed the bench seat in the rear of the car.... The 2010-15 model is highly desirable for it's large cabin and storage space while having class leading high MPGs... It was great for families and taxis alike... Cool to see they reduced the trunk space and still added the rear seating... Unfortunately it's only for children and small adults... haven't payed attention to the consumer base... Looks like the EGR system has been redesigned interesting that they removed the engine top cover
I’ve owned two Priuses and I have this to say. Reliability was top notch. I used them as a taxi and put about 70,000 miles a year in them and never had an issue. Also. If you do use them in that fashion you realize it’s not much more in cost to fill with gas than it is to charge a Tesla. Recently drove my Prius across the US alongside a friend with a Tesla. Cost to charge was 300ish and the Prius was 350ish. Prius didn’t have to stop as often nor did it take as long when it did need a fill up. Not many people will use them in that way. I personally think that for my use hybrid is still the way
@Devv&G nobody cares if they only drive in America buddy
PS tesla can only go across america , prius can go across the world
@1472fred nah bought a model Y long range cash
@Blanco so you will be the last one to get a EV that is your choice
To each their own but me I chose Tesla
It looks so cool, suitable for those who work or have a family using the car every day, or traveling to faraway places because the selling point of this car are about fuel economy, 4 doors with a spacious trunk, and a futuristic design
I'm really starting to realize how good of a value these newer gen toyotas are. I personally always drove 1 of the 3 German cars (audi, merc, bmw) and as most car people know, those cars are riddled with options and add-ons. I recently swapped cars with my friend for a day because he needed a "ballet-able" car for his work related event (essentially a car someone can sit comfortably in the back seat) so I had a opportunity to go around in a 2022 Corolla Sport while he drove my Audi A8L. Now putting aside the "luxury", since the Corolla wasn't for that, I'm amazed for how much of the stuff was standard and for its price.
Sounds like your next car should be a lexus!
Yeah, I think a 7 in the DougScore for value isn't doing this thing justice. It is unbelievable to me that you can get an AWD vehicle with 50+ MPG, decent multimedia/Android Auto, and tons of safety features, for less than $30k that is also very likely to do 150k miles in it's lifetime without much fuss.
Phenomenal exterior redesign!! Stunning! ( It's hard to pull off a great design on all sides of a vehicle AND still maintain efficient aerodynamics, but Toyota did it.) High praise to the designers of this 2023 Prius👌👏👍!
In re "why would I get a hybrid," it may be worth keeping in mind that traditional hybrids like this one retain one _massive_ advantage over EVs: they don't take half an hour (or more... occasionally a _lot_ more) to refuel.
@Asterngeisha I liked the one I used to have, but apparently not a lot of other people did, since they don't make them any more.
Owning a hybrid I can say they are boring as hell and offer all of the disadvantages of an EV and an ICE without any of the positives, fueling time withstanding. Stay away from any Hybrid/EV without some form of warranty on battery, my first gen volt is crippled right now because of the measly 16kWh which is going to cost $10k+ to replace, that's more than the cars BB value.
Nice review. What you missed, though, is that the Prius has a history of being very reliable. They also last for a long time. In addition to fuel economy, those are additional reasons why Lyft and Uber drivers favor the Prius. Many owners have 200,000 miles and more on their Prius. As far as performance is concerned, in many areas the traffic density limits how fast you can drive a vehicle anyway. I did have to chuckle about your performance parameters, and how times have changed. For example, what is considered average power and acceleration today would have been considered very good performance in the 1980's.
Doug looks snug in there! Looks like a lot of comfy room
@ezgin kral What would you have preferred, something with wings?
still not atractive, still boring......
Doug is 6'4. It has enough knee room but tight on head room and looks even tighter for foot room. I could fit back there for long, and certainly not someone with a long torso.
#hiddencompartment
@Triniplayer why he fell off??
Thank goodness! I was getting so sick of efficient cars looking so lame. At least make it look nice. I had a 2016 Prius because I will also prioritize efficiency over looks but once Tesla came out, I got the Model 3. Many did, right? I'm glad to see a version of this car that's easy on the eyes. I wonder how sales will go. If I had to get a gas car, I'd most likely get this Prius.
I think It will sell well if they can produce enough! Unfortunately it looks like they are just now reacting to Tesla and Tesla is not sitting still and are coming up with a new vehicle platform that’s 50% less expensive with same or better features! Knowing that all ready, for a bit more, (Tesla stretch) you get the model 3 with overall a lot more features, more safe and peppy and more space probably?
Model 3 is 1b to the Prius 1a of ugly car rankings tho 😂😂
But the model 3 looks pretty lame
Hey Doug, loved the review as always but I would appreciate more thorough all-around exterior shots! I feel like I know the cars really well from your videos but barely know what they look like on the outside besides some cropped shots. I find myself image searching after the videos to get a better idea beyond the side profile.
18:11 The constant obsession with being "FAST" vs. fast enough (Will it make a driver immortal? Do you run from the cops? Will it prevent traffic jams?) is worth a whole episode. Speed is mostly used for showboating, tailgating and impatient wasting of energy.
@mplslawnguy "goes under the speed limit in the passing lane": Do you know what a speed limit is? Speed limit is the maximum speed you should drive at. Driving over the speed limit is illegal.
Speed is not only fun. I had an episode this past winter in Norway where a car was like Bambi on ice, headed straight towards me. It was a moment that made me freeze a bit cause it was surreal, but in the end I floored it in a different direction. The instant power of the Model 3 saved me from an idiot with poor tires.
man YES you need a fast car, especially when you're bypassing some one driving slower and people coming on the left lane and need to do it quickly. I had a Toyota Tercel, then a Dodge Charger, The Tercel takes ages to do that and feels that you'll explode the engine doing so.
Lot of conflation between speed and acceleration here. I've done over 100 in my prius on a deserted highway, it's plenty capable of going fast
I was just saying the same thing. Calling a sub-7 0-60 car 'slow' makes me laugh in Europe or the Middle East. You really don't need that kind of acceleration, unless your roads are packed with maniacs, in which case something should be urgently done about it by your lawmakers as it endangers lives and creates an atmosphere of constant distress.
Just to say that I am currently a Prius owner and I NEVER go slowly in the Passing Lane unless the Passing Lane also happens to be an exit ramp (e.g. to a park and ride). I have been interested in the 2023 model since I heard about it. People who have dogs may not like the buttons on the top of the center console because if an errant dog tries to come into the front seat (yeah, that happens) they WILL step on those buttons! I wish the Info-tainment console had tactile buttons like the 2021 model. When driving tactile buttons are a BIG help.
One thing you didn't talk about was handling. My 2017 Prius kept up with the motorcycles on The Tail Of The Dragon in standard mode. No Sports Mode required. Another thing about gas mileage: when the difference between no ethanol regular and 10% ethanol regular was only 10 cents per gallon, I would pay the extra 10 cents. On no ethanol regular, I got 65.5 MPG traveling at 70MPH between Omaha and Chicago. My motorcycle got 56 MPG for comparison.
Motorcycles get 50mpg? Wtf??
Never thought I'd see the day I actually like the look of a Toyota Prius, but that flare fender and other line that swoops from the bottom of the back doors and goes up is very nice design. Great job to the design team.
@evo lve Yea I know right. You would think the Prius would be the first car Toyota would make 100% Electric but?
Now if they just make it 100% electric, I’ll be interested.
Same here, never thought I'd see a day where I say "what a nice Prius" hahaha
@Greig yes absolutely. I'm actually excited to see what they put out next.
Gorgeous redesign. I might have to seriously consider this instead of a Corolla next time. Love that #HiddenCompartment easter egg; I would use and appreciate the shit out of that!
I feel like they designed this car with Doug's review in mind. What a fun car
I have no trouble keeping up with traffic with the old one. This one has a lot more power. It’s definitely fast enough and looks nice.
@1472fred lame. My C43 has 255s in the back. Model 3 has 235s. Nice toaster though
Little skinny tires my model 3 has 9 inch wide tires & wheels plus real regen brakes
I had a Prius rental for several weeks last summer - totally sold me. Great car. Car was plenty fast for me and had no trouble getting 50 mpg going 80 - 85 on the freeway.
@ezgin kral you're embarrassing yourself
@MARCUS_AURELIUS Jr even fords or hondas are better. Prius is still boring....
@ezgin kral it’s for driving from point A to B want flashy ? Get a BMW or Range Rover
still not atractive, still boring......
I own a 2017 Prius and my only complaint about it is the road noise. Really wish they would at least put a spray-on noise damper on the cab's metal. Would make a huge difference in comfort and enjoyability. Other than that, I really enjoy the driving the car. It has great suspension and braking. And as with EVs, the brake pads and rotors last a LONG time. Mine has 235,000 miles on it and the original brakes are still in excellent condition. The car still drives like new. 👍
@Jack A. Awesome! That sounds great. Blessings to you along the journey and adventures 😀
@GoTellJesusSaves thank you! we will see how it goes and if I decide to stick with it. I am in a pretty safe coastal beach town, with a good number of tourists, so I'm hoping for the best.
@Jack A. those miles pile up really quickly doing Uber. I was putting on around 20-30 miles each hour I worked. Many days I'd drive over 300 miles. Other days less, depending on how busy it was. Also had plenty of incidents at night time with people who were drunk that did damage to the car. Nothing too serious, but the back seats still have stains... and there's a couple dents in the doors. It was quite the adventure working for Uber and lyft. Hahahaha! I've got some really good memories too from some fantastic people I met along the way. I hope it goes really well for you and that you really love people and forgive quickly and easily.
@GoTellJesusSaves oh gotcha. my miles are going to start creeping up. I am going to try uber as a side gig
@Jack A. yeah. I put the first 170,000 on it in 3 years driving for Uber and lyft.
Toyota did an amazing job with the update on this generation. And the term "Car Enthusiast" is sometimes vague. Often it refers to people who like exotic, pretty, high performance (or all of the above) vehicles, but I think you can also be a car enthusiast for just _liking cars_ in general. And the reality is the vast majority of people are not buying expensive, high performance cars, nor can the majority of people afford electric cars yet. Most people just want an affordable, _reliable_ car, and that's where the Prius fits in. Making it look good and have more power will probably help them sell more of them to people who were on the fence about it because of lack of power and questionable looks before. Smart move on Toyota's part.
@Alfred Tomey From an efficiency standpoint, the CVTs make sense - and to give Toyota _some_ credit, they did put a launch gear in theirs, so first gear is an actual gear then it switches to the band. As a consumer, I'd love to have a _choice_ of transmission. Depending on what I'm getting and why, that'd always be a real geared auto or a manual. As the manufacturer though, they're looking at what will get them the best compliance with fuel efficiency regulations, and cost-efficient production options. So "choice" loses out. The more the rules get strict, the more we (as consumers) lose out choice too. At least at the affordable-vehicle level. Heh, a GR Prius... that would be hilariously wrong and oh so right at the same time. XD
@Aaron M. Anyhow, it's a shame that Toyota can make very beautiful cars and then castrate them with crappy CVTs, as if they were the only reliable and efficient transmissions out there. Give this gorgeous new Prius a GR version, please. Or an EV version, which can be clean, efficient & fast.
@Bob Hill Thanks. :)
@Matt H Heh - well, no one does CVTs worse than Nissan, especially the older original CVT models - extremely unreliable too, at that. Good point about the Civic SI -like; It'd b an interesting engineering challenge to give it a bit more kick, but keep the price down, because the SI's low price is its big selling point.
@Alfred Tomey Still think that's a matter of opinion. To use that very game analogy, I've known plenty of game enthusiasts over 30+ years of PC gaming that simply couldn't afford to build a really powerful gaming rig, but that didn't diminish their love of games. Likewise, no everyone can afford a really unique, fast or powerful car, so they invest their enthusiasm elsewhere in the engineering. It's still enthusiasm, and still a passion for the car. I think that's great personally, because that sort of passion for cars is slowly dying out these days. Better to embrace and encourage it in whatever form it takes than try to say it can only be a very specific thing. I don't personally own a hybrid (or want to) - I've had more V8s and RWD beasts than anything else, but I still happily encourage _any_ form of car enthusiasm when I see it.
Wow you're right Doug, Prius has always been like, hoo nice hybrid car, but this one just stands out it looks like a really nice car!!! amazing
I got a 2015 handed down to me two years ago. I like the Gen 3 look the best and after driving it for 90,000 miles in that time, I love the car for so many reasons. I was so excited to hear about the release of the new, wonderful looking 2023 Prius, but from the reviews the back seat headroom is not very good. That’s a deal breaker for me. So sad.
It would be interesting to hear about the differences between this new Prius and previous iterations.
still not atractive, still boring......
Massive issues coming for Uber passengers finding and operating the rear door latch handle - I know Toyota C-HR Uber drivers who had lots of issues with passengers getting confused by their recessed rear door handles so they tried making signs showing the handle and an arrow pointing to it. Some actually sold them because they got sick of the hassle of telling passengers where the handle is
Honestly, it's a beautiful car. Great review Doug!
Bravo to whoever designed this years’ Prius, this is so much better than all of past years’ releases
Anything looked better than the last generation Prius. This new one looks good especially with all cars having the wind tunnel designs for years now.
@gfries lmfao bruh said a soap bar 😂
@TheZ Both cars front ends look like soap bars, its just a coincidence.
I thought they all had really cheap interiors. I have to sit inside the new one to see if it has that cheap quality to it. Yeah, they did a much better job on the outside. I still can't figure out why they have to make a car so freaking ugly in the first place.
They copied Ferrari's homework, look up the Purosangue. The front's almost exactly the same.
That gauge cluster is a much better idea, now in line with the drivers view. Don't have to look down or across taking your eyes off the road.
looks good and has great utility, the price for the highest trim is kind of crazy though
It's beautiful. 10 years ago this is exactly what I'd imagine future cars to look like, non the less a Prius of all things. Bravo mister Toyoda
@Wahid i guess but it still looks worse than any car on the market today lol
@Sonder the old one's
beautiful compared to what?
this is what i was hoping for in the last 2 revisions. its about time i like how it looks
Once this has the PHEV available it's looking really good. About 220hp and full running in EV mode for much of your daily driving and then still 50mpg+ for long trips. Just a really great solid practical car.
Problem is that Toyota hates making PHEV versions of their cars so I would expect long wait times despite that being the best long term option as well as providing a much lower carbon footprint.
@PhaseSkater What did you mod? I have an Ioniq right now and it's like driving a golf cart around.
I’ll stick with my modded Hyundai Ioniq and 70 mpg
@Jeff K If you get the Prime you can go in the carpool lane again.
I hope it isn't like the 4th Gen Prius PHEV in which most of the boot / trunk is taken up by the battery, If it wasn't for that I would have bought one. Strangely the PHEVs here (U.K.) have a much nicer looking front than the plain hybrid.
Thanks for your review! In case you're wondering who might still want a Prius (or any hybrid), I live in a big city apartment and park on the street. There is no place to charge an EV anywhere around here. No one has yet explained how people in my sort of housing situation are supposed to own and charge an EV. So, this Prius is interesting to me.
Technology Connections might have a video on that topic.
It's nice and they kept the price down too. With some nicer wheels, could be a sweet daily driver.
What an amazing looking car. I’m currently borrowing my parents 2015 prius and at first was like meh but now I totally see myself driving one. I just hope they got rid of the back up annoying beep made me feel like I was backing up a double wide 😂.
Drastic changes. exterior is far better, and the interior is def a big step up. The easter eggs thing was too much, it drove me crazy when it continued nearly through out the whole video.
I got my 2007 around 90k miles and it’s almost 152k with very minimal issues. It’s never left me stranded. I average 47mpg or so roughly.
The new Prius looks to be the best simultaneous daily driver and family car that money can buy. Affordable, practical, stylish, easy-to-live-with, dependable, safe, comfortable, well-equipped, reasonably nice to drive and quick enough to satisfy any road, All-Wheel-Drive, eco-friendly, and world-class fuel economy. What else can you ask for? I'd also love for you to try out the new Prime variant too. :3
❤❤❤❤❤
@Wayne Lewis Yup, this is what many people don't understand, Tesla has already established themselves as the Apple of EV, everyone else is just another Android, and that includes Mercedes and Porsche. Nobody has anything close to Tesla's supercharging system, or batteries or motors they're all 7-10 years behind
@Olegon You looking for an engine swap?
@Dennis Merwood Aptera 2024ish.
@Augusto Oliveira this car looked like scaled down Countach or Altezza.
I have a 2008 Prius, with over 230k miles on it. All we did was get a new converter and few things to keep it going. It runs great & is the perfect daily driver. I love it! Averages 42-47 mpg, full tank with Biden gas prices today costed $30. I can’t wait to trade my challenger 392 in for this 😂 sadly that car is horrible on gas as a daily driver and I’m ready to let go of that beast.
Very very good competitor to model 3. Especially love the Framed doors/windows. Frameless are terrible and just too much trouble.
Agreed that they are now aware of Tesla at least but Meh, still have to go to the gas station and mechanic, overall less features, less safe and peppy, worst in-car and mobile softwares by far, less space.
Drove a Prius from Las Vegas to Knab UT for a weekend rental. Followed a group of cars so I know that the prius was electronically controlled to 109mph, I refilled this car when I reached Knab and it performed 48mpg running topspeed for over 1 hour. Never had a problem. It was driven through some of the outsites of pre arches area, esentially offroad and it provided a excellent seat to watch a large rushing storm water river in a remote area, the amount of wood and limbs were incredible. In any case you had to drive up hill to kanab and it performed like a champ. One had to follow the speed limit after I truned off the highway to drive to knab, as its through Indian reservation and getting stopped was not something that I wanted to risk. We drove around to the various sights when I reached Knab, arches, the sand dunes, zion, and bryce. When I drove home you dive down out of the hills and at one point the car went into total electric mode as the road had several twisty sections where you had to break for. Total electric lasted for over a hour and at highway speeds. To return it to the rental dealer, I had to fill it and then found It had given me 49mpg. So total trip was just two fill ups the last one not from empty but from around 2 gallons left. It held 2 dogs in the back and I folded the seats down to accommodate them.
Never thought I would say, that there is a good looking Prius. I looks quite sporty from the side. We had a Prius as a company pool car in the early 2000s, useable for driving around town. About 4-5 years ago I was looking for a new car, and tried a a Prius. Technically a nice car, but terrible boring and slow. And I said that coming from a little Lancia Ypsilon (about 70hp), that felt quicker and sportier then the Prius. Tried the Leaf and BMW i3 as well during that time, liked both much more then the Prius.
I had a 2008 prius and it was a good reliable vehicle. The parts were cheap for the most part. The only problem was the combination chip that for some reason goes out. Mines was 600 to get fixed but for the newer ones it they go out your looking at 2k. Which is probably why they lost customers.
As a former 2nd-gen Prius owner I am so excited to see that Toyota cares enough about this car still to make a new one that looks this good and has this much power. The Prius has always been maligned by car enthusiasts for being ugly and slow, but to me it has always been maybe the single-best all-around car money can buy. They’re insanely reliable, insanely efficient, roomy, and practical in every way. And now they’re not ugly and slow anymore.
I'm a Prius owner and fan as well, but Toyota should have had a Prius EV before the Chevy Bolt was released. They're years behind the rest of the industry despite starting a decade ahead with the first great hybrid.
@Vee They aren't even going to bother selling it here in the U.K. as the Corolla and Rav4 get the same power train as the Prius and will soon be upgraded to this ones.
@farmecologist when I say enthusiast, I mean for combustion not electric. I'm sorry, but people who like EVs are not car guys or enthusiasts unless you also like gas cars.
@Marco Morel that’s not what I’m talking about? Every company needs to be below certain CO2 emissions Toyota created the Prius so that they could be below that and also to create cars that are fun like the Toyota gr86 gr supra etc without the Prius those cars would most likely not exist. I’m speaking fax shush 🤫
@Ryze Uhh...no. Far too many so called "enthusiasts" have berated the Prius for years.
I can give a list of safety features that Toyota Motor Philippines will remove/keep if it launches in the country and if they will follow the trims in the US: 8" Touchscreen for LE and XLE 12.3" Touchscreen for Limited TSS 2.0 w/o Pedestrian Detection and Road Sign Assist for XLE and up Keep up the good work with your videos!
I recently rented a 2021 model and I was getting 67 miles to the gallon until the weather got cold and then it went down to 62 MPG, still great. That MPG really surprised me and so did the quality and comfort of the ride and the interior. I never even heard the engine till the weather got cold and I needed heat. However this 2023 model is beautiful compared to the version I rented and much more responsive. I just don't like the low profile tires as they sacrifice ride quality. Might buy this if I can get it at a good price.
That interior tho. The instrument cluster UI is beautifully simple. I’m happy to see Isomorphic design in car screens.
Taking the guess work out of driving (recharging) is great for MOST people who aren't homeowners and don't have access to overnight charging. Love this new Prius!
That line down the side that continues in the rear bumper seam is craaazy. Such an interesting looking car.
The heated windshield under the wipers is honestly genius. In Canada I bet that alone could almost sell this car lol. Great idea
Only thing I wish my model 3 had from this, although the max defrost setting from the app is pretty amazing.
@ezgin kral Why are you spamming the same hater comment everywhere?!?! You must be living a quite miserable life!
My 67 corvette had them by default
still not atractive, still boring......
@Chris Oliver Yeah, and my penny farthing had one back in the 1880's
This is a fantastic hybrid car. If you can actually get MSRP on it, it is a great value!
Hey, I beat them to it. I somehow bought 19in OZracing wheels that have 5x100 spacing (which I dont think you can find), bought an upper front stabilizer bar (think about the force on upper strut nuts), way beefed up rear stabilizer bar, and ripped a 24mm front steering stabilizer from another toyota SUV. Ok, that didnt quite do it. But why would you think a Prius (gen 2 or higher) is slow when its the same engine as a camry, and probably a lot of other 4cyls, and it has an electric motor basically permanently attached to output shaft? Maybe not high HP or acceleration (I think I got 22sec to 60mph), but I can easily be going way to fast, especially slightly downhill, like 90 or more. While others are sliding every which way off the freeway in a blizzard at every significant turn, I am cruising cautiously at 40mph on 8in of untracked snow with useless wipers.
Saw this in person in DTLA over the weekend. They were filming a commercial. Overall it looks nice. Styling falls apart in the rear a bit. The raked windshield is a problem.
Stunning exterior. Dull interior/dash still.
I love how they went back in time to Gen 3 style and smooth out the edges. Now it looks like the Prius but all grown up.
As someone who hated the Prius, this one actually makes me want to buy one. It looks fantastic, and sadly we wont get the cool Yellow they showed it off in
Miles Doyle looks like the essay youre about to hand in to the teacher :0
wrap it in yellow
Same here I’m actually genuinely intrigued and want one
I can't imagine why anyone ever hated the prius, it was always an economical and reliable vehicle with average looks, only have a few aerodynamic oddities to set it apart from some similar looking hatches and wagons.
@Wardog008 it's an option in Japan but not North America
Looks good from the side. Front and back still look weird, imo. Definitely an improvement over the outgoing design, though. Also, my 2010 Subaru had heated wiper blades. Just saying.
Crazy car. 57 mpg and it’s gorgeous. Totally nuts
Love watching doug review cars that people can actually afford, we don’t all inherit a trust fund🙃
Never thought I would say a Prius is a pretty good looking car. But darn I must say that this new Prius is a pretty good looking car!😂
This is what the Model 3 should have looked like. It’s an amazing design.
I LOVE this re-design. This might be one of the best selling cars for years to come. Great MPG, and looks great. Most people hated the look of the Prius and it finally seems like Toyota realized that. Great job with this one..
@Purwanti Allan and very attractive to say the least.
@Purwanti Allan nice to see Prius 2023 shaped like a Lambo.
@Purwanti Allan for me its an 8/10.
$37,000 is pretty high for a Prius. It's pretty nice though.
@Nenad But this won’t get as much of a tex credit as BEVs in many countries because it doesn’t help much with CO2 emissions or nitrogen oxide emissions. It will be cheaper even without the credit so they will definitely sell this car. But I don’t think it will be the saving grace that Toyota needs as they’ve yet to build a BEV platform. They plan to do that 2025, when other BEV manufacturers are already at a 3 million+ run rate.
It looks great for a Prius and almost looks great for a regular car.
Prius sales declined when they came out with the Gen 4 body style. I would love to know the names and see the faces of the people that signed off on the Gen 4 styling! Were they intentionally trying to kill it or what?
very happy that this video has gotten more views than any other by far since the rivian r1s video a few months ago, surprised just how interested everyone is in the new prius
I swore I'd never drive an EV, but this is a hybrid and it's really gorgeous..... I'd drive it!
Fear of fast acceleration or low noise?
This looks absolutely FANTASTIC! Sick job by Toyota!
This looks significantly better than many german entry models. That's utterly insane. Incredibly beautiful with a high end fit and finish.
@chgofirefighter yes, you can compare German to Japanese. The Golf GTI vs. Civic Si is a substantial segment rivalry. Back when the Lexus LS 400 dropped in 1990 it took almost a decade for the Germans to catch up. And let’s not forget about how the R32 Nissan Skyline GTR killed Group A touring car racing at the international level. So much so that the FIA had to go back and restructure the touring car classifications.
@Todor Katsarski with most you mean all, right? im yet to see a new M BMW that i like
absolutely not
@EGGBiRDTHEROOSTER Prius 2023 car is a 6.9/10.
@Todor Katsarski still not matched the M3 GTR tho.
I want to see Doug go around and review tiny homes at this point
Now imagine what body kits and after market mods will do to this car 😍.
@Entropy Yes, this looks so good the way it is!!!!! The smooth design can not be modified nicely!
Ruin it and make it look like a teenage nightmare?
I don't own any Toyotas but everytime a Camry drives by I'm always in awe that they brought a nascar body shape to the masses . Just like Hyundai these guys are going places
I'm seriously stunned by how good it looks. I thought Toyota's design department was run by former children's toy designers, but this is a very cool looking car. For a welcome change.
Toyota Prius looks so nice! I want to trade in my suv for it. But I think financial wise I’ll go fit the 2020. Can’t wait for the price to drop!
This design looks like what we thought cars in the future would look like in the early 2000s. It's amazing!
@Whatyoudo I don't do kids show sorry. (Adult content)
@Buckets damn! can I invite you to my kids kindergarten stand-up comedy show?
@Whatyoudo Yes sir. I actually got my pants dirty from rolling around too much. Currently reading & replying to your comment as I wait for them to wash.
@Buckets you are laughing your ass off? Over this? really? You are keeled-over hysterically laughing?
I think your getting the gas engine HP and the gas engine+mg(motor-generator)1+mg2 total HP (or kw) mixed up. the earlier were 1.5L, the last you say 1.8L, and now 2.0L 4 cyl engine. Actually I cant remember, but they boosted the electric motors efficiency and ability of both (one also is the on-demand engine revs starter) already with the gen3, so I doubt you get that much more punch going from 1.8 to 2.0. If I recall, it cruises along using about 40HP or so total most of the time (according to Torque calc).
Damn... I kinda want to buy it.. They did an amazing job.
Wow, truly gorgeous. Still driving my 2013 plug-in, but this is tempting!
@Quang Le Good point!
2014 prius plug in here. Agree with you that it's tempting. I think I'll wait for 2025 or higher because they say not to buy first release
I can imagine mod kits start to emerge on this generation
Doug, I know it looks good! I want one really bad. I'd buy 2 lol
Doug is the kind of guy to carry a kneepad everywhere instead of wearing pants.
@DethstruXioN ™ I understand but i mean straight elbowing leather in $3MM cars =(
@canoeshoe He used to not bring his kneepad, and dirty up cars with his dusty knees, so he is slowly evolving. The double shirt and anti-sweat pads do work usually as well, but yeah, it's a farcry from just putting on something less soaky or some decent pants. Then again, i don't really care, i assume the people know what they can expect from him.
@ese4424 Mitsubishi Mirage fits your criteria. The lowest rated car in America.
@R L T 😂😂😂
@ese4424 You could get a mirage. Super simple design (only three cylinders, no turbo, etc.), and you could find one with a MT.
It looks very cool, i feel like slowly we are getting the 'Future cars' the past promised us through movies and media
Thank you for the video :) Can you explain how the electronic parking brake, hold and “P” gear work? And what is “drive mode”?
Doug’s the type of guy to make me actually want a Prius.
the top of the headlight is the only part I find ugly. should have just had it go straight across instead of a swoosh. I have a 3rd gen prius and I think the car looks really good. The only thing I found ugly was the headlights as well. It has wings on it but I plasti dipped the wing part out so now the car imo looks really attractive. The car is white with black premium black wheels.
I believe all manufacturers have a quirks and features department now. Creating ideas for Doug's channel.
I owned a 2006 Prius that had 215k miles when I sold it and it still ran great. Best car I ever owned. I'm a car enthusiast but love the practicality of the Prius and it's reliability, it just goes and goes with minimal maintenance might I add. People say the Prius is slow but it's always been more than adequate acceleration for day to day driving. You just have to really lay into it to get it to go. I did go to a Rav4 Prime and if you go back to the Prius yeah you'll notice it's slow haha. But the R4P has really impressive power. I miss the go kart like handling, with the right set of wheels and tires it's a great handling car. One thing I won't miss from my 2G Prius is the ride quality. It was awful the Rav4 prime is so much more quieter and smoother withe large wheels. The ground clearance is nice too. I actually lifted mine slightly because it was scraping on everything. Anyway the new one looks great but I went with the bigger car it's even more practical.
@esingh "you don't what"? 😂. Obviously I enjoy the enthusiast car more but I certainly respect what the Prius is.
@esingh Sorry I'm not spoiled like you I also have a turbo eclipse and a Galant VR4 with racing suspension. It's awful to drive on the street but it handles good. I also race motorcycles. There's nothing luxurious about the cars I drive, it's a luxury I don't need. The Prius gets me from A to B, it guarantees it.
@Wei Same when they use to hate on the corvette
@Chase You need to understand that fun can be had in any car dude. Yes even in a Prius lol.
@Purwanti Allan like a viper!?! Bro a vipers pretty much a supercar not a sports car😂, that's a deadly mistake my boi a sport's car doesn't need too be super fast too be a sports car it's just gotta have more sportier funner handling
Side profile looks like Tesla styling. The interior is really nice upscale now. Hybrid Reborn easter egg on the wiper cowl! Those rear door handles are going to be an issue in snowy cliamtes when it fills up with snow!
I own a 2019 Camaro ZL1 1LE and a 2010 Prius. Let me just say that’s the Prius is one of the best cars that I have own. 140,000 miles later and still drives like new. I’m very excited for this new Prius.
The hashtags are funny but i think they do a really good job to make the interior feel more simple and straightforward. People have a lot of things going on in their lives or maybe its just a rental car and they don't care to look super deep, the hashtag things are a way to just make everything as obvious as possible.
I know you just reviewed the mazdaspeed 3 but you should also do one on the mazdaspeed 6. Super underrated car, awd and surprisingly fast.
