  • Aside from the “best phone camera overall,” the person who voted could also get the “best phone camera for your eyes” from this test. Great great job MKBHD team!

    • Another idea would be to do Male vs Female vs AI They all do a round of voting and then do a comparison, i think their will be interesting patterns in those.

    • Not to forget males are in statistics overall more times color blind than females. He should + one this test next year and do female vs males comparison.

    • Need to buy business smartphones for work and study.. I am working in IT and learning 1. Devops and 2. ai and machine learning Screen: greater than 6.2 inches Need 256 GB smartphone with better user experience and no ad or bloatware... Budget: 650 USD What should I go with? Samsung S22 or Google Pixel 6a or Motorola Edge30 ultra or OnePlus 10T

    • @Vageesan Messi @Jonas Schneider The PUBLIC has voted that they don't like what we like lol. At least I know which phone I'm going to buy next ;)

    • @patrick771 iPhone 14 pro max is just a copycat of Nothing phone 1🎉

  • Just glad to finally see Google's Pixel superiority is finally acknowledged 😄. I've always been telling people Pixels have the BEST cameras. And now we know, they do!

    • software magic

    • Huawei does it better

    • I can tell you this, despite what reviews and people said, my Google Nexus 5, 6, and 6P all took pretty phenomenal photos, in daylight lol...but most phones needed actual daylight to produce a decent photograph back then, but I still remember how great a few of my random shots with each came out..... and one thing ties them together (besides the G on the back), the Google Camera.

    • Best post-processing maybe.

  • Dude! You just solved one of my biggest gripes with these sorts of comparison videos. The methodology here is actually statistically/scientifically sound for once. Any other way of doing comparisons is deeply flawed. You basically eliminated statistical error by doing it this way, and that's actually very innovative for this format. You're the man, Marques! Always finding ways to make major improvements and create the best content. You're a huge inspiration, and you've more than earned your place at the top.

    • @epicwisdom even on a 1080p 15" screen ita very obvious

    • @Danishblunt compression has a tiny and likely uniform effect on images. it pretty much doesn't matter. for it to even be measurable you'd need to make sure people actually use a sufficiently high-res screen, or take more than 2s to actually zoom in and pixel peep.

    • The best thing is that not a someone making the review is telling you which camera is better. You can chose what you find mor pleasing. I wanted to buy a Zenfone 9, based on hte ranking it isn't bad but based on my own raning it is mostly only at 10-11th place.

    • Go P6a!

    • @Yadhu Anand or they have the Sony Xperia 1 IV or Moto Edge 30 Ultra lol.

  • It would be very interesting to repeat this vote with professional photographers. Because they look at different characteristics, color representation, natural shadows etc. - and with all that image processing going on, maybe the best looking are not necessarily the most accurate.

    • @Паша Сасковец I think it kinda does. At least on my own feed, the pictures or reels on Instagram that are really popular are those that are well shot, edited and colour graded.

    • @Dean Hyman What? That's not even the point of the comment. iPhone won't come out on top either. It has its fair bit of digital processing.

    • Reliance of software to pull off good photos is the greatest example on why professionals' opinions don't matter when it comes to mainstream consumer products. Nobody will sit and edit raw photos from the weekend's cookout if they can just point their phone, tap one button, and get an objectively appealing photo.

    • @Dean Hyman I am not saying that iPhone would come on top. Only that a voting from pro users would be interesting.

  • such an impressive analysis. this type of content is why we love MKBHD!

    • Legit and free guarantee giveaway prizes only on Super RC’s CS-tv channel

    • and live photo

    • The camera can take pictures as well as videos. But why doesn't he do a video comparison? Probably the best iPhone with cinematic mode.

    • Although I missed "none of these two" button multiple times during the voting + would be interesting to not compare same scene every time... add few more standard light scenes and then let people vote on them randomly

  • As a photography enthusiast, I noticed that the Sony performs how I would expect a prosumer camera to perform. The colours were neutral, exposures were pretty spot on in preserving highlights/shadows with no artificial bokeh or dramatic HDR. This means DI workflow might be similar to an A7/R/S camera for e.g. and if really needed I think a photog won't mind mixing a few snaps from the Xperia and the main cam since they are harmonious. Can't wait to see what Sony brings in the Xperia V.

    • FACTS this is for being influenced with minimal effort. Sony is amazing for editors

    • finally someone get ahat sony offers. all these test is non edit social ready photos. real photographers need natural photos

    • Agree, Sony have different approaches then all of these phone which rely on computational algorithms processing, but Sony act like camera, that’s why I prefer Sony result so I can manipulate it later

    • Haha. I was the same. I liked the Sony's photos cause they seemed more like what I would expect from my mirrorless interchangeable lens camera, which makes sense since its a Sony as well.

  • Marques and his team killed it with this experiment.

    • kill who? are they die?

    • @Shah Auckburaully this is way better for ranking the phones. The entertaintment is to see what the experiences are

    • @R i think videos just take so much more time. The database would be way smaller. Also i dont really take videos. Almost only photos...

    • Not really, its a totaly subjective test, nothing compare true datas from a lab like Dxo

    • @R He literally said Iphone is the best in terms of camera/video in his overall 2022 smartphone awards. So what are you babbling on about?

  • I wonder if landscape photography will make a difference.. it would be amazing if you and your team could add it to the next edition because at the moment all 3 modes are basically portrait photography Adding a DSLR into the mix can also let us know how good can a phone camera compete with a standard camera

  • I love how the Asus Zenfones always do great in these, despite almost never being mentioned elsewhere!

    • They sick phones too! And have a headphone jack!! I actually might go for one on my next upgrade

  • this was actually incredible. i appreciate all the hard work Marques and his team put in for these videos and for constantly raising the bar. i don't think there are any data sets similar to this one out there and it'd be epic this was open source.

  • Maybe the Pixel 7 would sneak in the ranking for best photo for the buck, as it costs $300 less than the Pro version but was not tested in this ranking (main camera being the same sensor).

    • @KTM ur lost

    • @KTM it's really different system and optimization. Lol

    • @Patrick Yeah but the software is identical, and the camera itself is not that different still.

    • @KTM s22 and s22 ultra got different main camera, s22 - 50 MP, f/1.8, 23mm (wide), 1/1.56" s22u - 108 MP, f/1.8, 23mm (wide), 1/1.33"

    • S22 too. As it's not that different from the Ultra, except for the zoom, which wasn't tested.

  • You're becoming more of a truth seeker and journalist than before, you're adding a lot of value as you evolve beyond just reviewing tech to actually help us understand how it works. Thank you Marques.

    • congratulations👆👆 you've won🎉 some package let's talk with the 👆 above name 👆👆👆 only one on telegram......

  • Such a great way to do the poll this year. Thanks for doing this again and even better.

    • We need Ultrawide and Zoom photos next year.

    • @Memories ????

    • You didn't got like btw

  • Hats off to MKBHD for conducting a proper test (eliminating bias, large sample size, etc.) I think the smartphone companies should come to you for some of this data.

    • The photos are too differently framed, though - and since they have human subjects, there's bound to be some subtle differences in pose and facial expressions as well. The framing probably also affected the white balance.

  • This is remarkable! I am a data person and I can imagine how much effort went into this. Not even taking into account the editing and visualization part of it! You and your team are killing it, Marques!

  • I have Pixel 6A, it's really good for its price. In India its around 30K Rs around 300$

    • When there's a tech there's an Indian and Pakistani, you guys good at this shit except for border thingy

    • @Mayank Jaiswal sure i am using it.

    • Can many people in India afford a good phone like that?

    • @JoyBoy correct, i had a long day 😁

    • @Mayank Jaiswal better :) It can be compared to iPhone 13 but the video quality on the iPhone is better.

  • This is soooo cool - amazing video! I’m a market researcher by trade so this was great to see. I hope more experiments are coming to the channel. I’m finally breaking down and getting a Google Pixel.

  • Major props to whoever designed the experiment, analyzed the data, and visualized it to make this the most rigorous MKBHD video I’ve ever seen! If you don’t upload the data to an open science repository, I bet many companies would pay money to buy it from you. ;)

  • Incredible voting method this year - very clean and professional approach without being too technical, it's clear to see how you're always trying to push the boundaries. Top quality as usual Marques. Here's to 2023!

    • @yesihave nonameforu iPhone 14 pro max is just a copycat of Nothing phone 1🎉

    • Ye

    • This is the most honest video I have watch on this channel

    • @yesihave nonameforu Those commenters are annoying. Though I thought it would have more comments with over 350 likes.

    • Here before someone says there's no comment :)

  • Now this is the kind of content I love. Great mix of tech, data and analysis. Thank you so much for bringing it together and the amazing presentation

  • Kudos to you and the team. The amount of efforts that were put in had to make it a success!

  • Ok this is incredibly planned and executed! 🤩And I love this because it removes any bias we may have. Great job to you and your team👏 It would be cool if you could do this test for videography as well

  • very well planned and organized experiment! Surprising to see that Pixel 6A beat the Pixel 7 Pro in the standard photo and overall. But as someone using the Pixel 6a, I really agree that it has a very good camera!

  • Superb test. One of the best formats I’ve seem. I would have liked a little pixel peeping and a test of flash, but that’s just me. Love your teams work. Keep it up.

  • Maaaaan this totally raised the bar by several marks. Thanks for doing this. Well done to Team Pixel / Google for their hard work.

    • Yep. Google seriously won this year. And it's only going to get better from here on out

    • If Google really wants to get competitive, they really need to fix the video judder. They should be able to do something with software, but it’s sooooo bad out of the box

    • @Alan Gurling yes its a good video but its not camera system either Camera system comparison should be done RAW and shoot professionally, Sony is always known to have the best camera system, look what happened when its shooting auto and uploaded to social media compression lol This result is heavily based on Google's experience after years of collecting data via their free Google Photos, its all in the post image processing and AI, they can literally slap on a generic camera and still look really good on social media

    • all those years of Google Photos free cloud service sure come in handy to perfect that Pixel's post image processing for social media via AI this is not a camera comparison

    • @Lou Cipher or "Best Camera System" as it's several components: the lenses, imaging pipeline, HDR process, blur tech, night/low-light imaging... There's a lot of tech involved and that's just the software side, we also don't get to talk much about the hardware that makes all that processes happen in a fraction of a second. It's a really good video IMHO.

  • This was an awesome experiment. I have to say, after rating so many photos, I did start to develop some shortcuts. For instance, in many photos of the dark scene, I started looking at how bad the color reproduction of the black jacket was. Some photos looked nice and bright up front, but the jacket ended up looking very grey and inaccurate.

  • This is the only camera review video that people should consider! these results are very surprising. People are bias by the branding no matter how much we try to avoid it.

  • I think you should make this an in house test, and have the fan vote be a part of it. I feel like while you can judge pictures just on any computer on any display, you have to factor in subscribers using different displays in different lighting environments.

  • This is probably the best thing I've seen on CS-tv over a long time. Thanks team MKBHD. You really killed the competition ❤️

  • you guys are amazing for this. huge props for the hard work, glad to have participated in the voting this time!

  • Marques be like: I am somewhat of a data scientist myself

    • @wu󠁳⁧⁧kuٴ But, the S21fe wasn't a rebranded S21 tho. They're 2 totally different phones. The S21fe is more closer to the S21+.

    • @wu󠁳⁧⁧kuٴ Actually, The S21FE DID launched in January of 2022

    • @Carl Johnson Personally would say s21 is better bang for the buck.

    • @wu󠁳⁧⁧kuٴ Yeah, but still it counts as 22 phone... anyways I was thinking which one is a better camera phone s21 fe or 6a. I was looking forward for this year's blind camera test but it wasn't in the test smh.

  • For me, color temperature had a big correlation to which I preferred. I preferred cooler tones over warmer. It’d be interesting to see if others had a similar preference for overall color temp

    • congratulations👆👆 you've won🎉 some package let's talk with the 👆 above name 👆👆👆 only one on telegram.....

  • I hope next year you add a controlled, moving test as well. I got this idea doe to the Xiami 12s underperforming terribly but actually being able to take great shots of moving subjects.

  • Idk if you understand how impressive this is MB. This was fun to watch, and honestly just kind of in awe of how much research went into this. This is basically setting a new standard, great job!

  • Love seeing the exposure trends. Maybe next time it's worth measuring contrast? Human vision is super tuned for contrast, I'd be really interested to see ho contrast correlates with votes

  • Nice work! However this experiment shows only which photo looks the best. What I want from camera is to take photo of the scene exactly how it looks in real. I think that for next camera comparison it would be very nice to have one more photo of each scene taken with the DSLR (auto Mode). Then we can compare them with the photos taken by smartphones. Thanks to that we could see which smartphone is producing most realistic and closest to DSLR photo.

  • I wonder if companies will use these videos to try to base their camera processing on the winning results

    • all those years of Google Photos free cloud service sure come in handy to perfect that Pixel's post image processing for social media via AI this is not a camera comparison

    • all those years of Google Photos free cloud service sure come in handy to perfect that Pixel's post image processing for social media via AI this is not a camera comparison

    • It's not all post processing..the sensor plays a big part in how it captures light which affect the end result.

  • Great experiment. I run to the site to see my results. I learned a few things: I only care about standard photos, all low light photos suck, and portrait mode is not that great. A dedicated camera is still much better than the best camera phones. And as a photographer I prefer less processed results, less saturation, sharpening and contrast, that give me more room to process it myself, but most people love pumped out results.

  • Amazing analysis! Good to see the Pixels continuing to be the smartphone camera kings! 😄 Having shifted to an iPhone from a Pixel, I really miss the pictures my Pixel 4a used to churn out. My 13 mini is also very good but I just miss that Pixel look in my photos 😄

  • You should do these types of experiments more often! Maybe even for video. How about smartphones versus actual cameras, or different cameras competing with each other?

  • Man the color grading on these videos is seriously on point every time. Great stuff as always!

  • As much as I liked the results (pixel fan/owner) and also much preferred this test over the past years ones, I think that there should be taken in consideration also the subject of the picture! Many people could have considered more pleasing a picture with Mark smiling or posing in a different way than other, so probably next year test should also consider putting on pictures without faces. Furthermore when will it be possible to have a test for the best achievable picture camera test! This tests are always about the point and shoot situation, but we always edit our pictures!

    • congratulations👆👆 you've won🎉 some package let's talk with the 👆 above name 👆👆👆 only one on telegram

  • you should sneek in some professional level cameras in a secret bracket to see if the average people can see the difference between regular smartphones and cinema level cameras

    • @Darrell Ames i always add bagels to my fruit comparisons. gives me something to spread the jam on at the end

    • @Pratik even as mere jpg the signal to noise ratio, bokeh, and dynamic range would be superior with a full frame camera.

    • That's a good idea only if the ultimate goal of the study is seeing if people can tell the diff

    • @Darrell AmesHis idea would actually prove a point. People have no idea what makes a good picture good.

    • Great idea! I can guarantee that most people cannot see the difference between good and "okay" pictures.

  • Not surprising at all that Google won this...their work over the last few years in the smartphone camera area has been phenomenal. I have a S22U as my daily driver and had a Pixel 6 Pro that I wound up trading in due to other issues but it's camera was amazing.

  • Would be cool to get a comparison of all pro modes in photography. Who offers the most adjustments, ease of use, format quality, editing for print etc. Which is the biggest beast when going as pro mode as possible?

  • An interesting thought I had when I went to check out the voting site, would be interesting if there was a timer to show how long it took someone to pick a winner. Some for me where instant winners, with one being obviouslyt better then the other, but some were so close I had to almost pixel peep to try to pick a winner. What if we assigned a weighted score based on how long it took to pick a winner, with the ones that were extreamly close being a lesser weight than the ones that are easier to pick? Maybe with a time cap, so if some one takes too long to pick assume they took a break instead. Maybe something to consider for next years people choice awards (if you do it again)

  • This contest just got way more interesting with the new method. Loving it and can't wait for the next one

  • This is a great idea. Would love to see this be worked out for video quality, stability etc. As that is equally important these days. Thanks man.

  • The stuff MK can accomplish by having such a huge dedicated audience is INSANE!

  • Great survey! You could maybe have included a chart where the photos were ordered from brightest to darkest and put a marker indicating the tendency to vote based on brightness

  • Appreciate the hard work all MKBHD team had to go through

  • my winners for standard were pixel 6a, pixel 14 pro, and pixel 7 pro. There were a lot in there where I preferred an image too warm over an image that was too 'sharp' like someone turned up the 'ciarity' in PS raw editor.

  • MKBHD just provided the best data for R&D in the camera department to every smartphone manufacturer. Thumbs up for your work 👍

  • I’m actually really surprised that the more telephoto portrait photos didn’t do better. They look way better.

  • Really great concept and implementation, I think this is probably the most objective way to do this. Imo, next year needs more categories like zoom and ultra wide, and it needs to have a wider reach. You should try to get other creators in non tech categories to shout this out to their audiences in order to cast a significantly wider, non techy net.

    • I need smartphone for business use Screensize: Greater than 6.1 inches Camera: Not ultra important ( Should be better than average) Need something that Does not hang and require better support for office applications like Zoom, teams or Onenote etc without causing issues ( if multiple apps are open) Better security Battery life should be greater than 5 hours of use Performance should be good Store: If I could get 256 gig that would be amazing, otherwise I would settle with 128G with little disappointment if the other features are better in 128GB range I already own 3 year old ipad. I current use MI smartphone which I hate it although it has 6GB RAM and 128GIG storage ( lot of bloatware) I feel MI gives lot of advertising on ohones and adware everywhere. It is not able to run Skype, Teams and or other engineering software due to weaker cpu and GPU. It is too obsolete being 3-4 year old smartphone Should i go for value for money smartphone like IQOO or Motorola edge 30 or Realme or spend more on S22 or Pixel. I am thinking of buying IQOO. I need to purchase laptop too (Legion 5i Pro) What are your thoughts...I am so confused about smartphon

    • @SHAHRULNIZAM The pixel 6a is currently about $299

    • More important would be to add other types of photography like street photography and landscape images.

    • Surely iPhone has to win in some of these categories... 😝

  • Bought the Pixel 6a after watching this and am really glad I did. During the new year week we took a bunch of daily and nightly photos with my 6a, my wife's S 21 Ultra and her cousin's iPhone 14 Pro and ended up using most of the 6a photos at the end. It lacks the sharpness in very few photos but outperforms in most. Night time selfies especially are where it wins by a landslide. The Samsung and iPhone night time selfies were pretty much unusable.

  • Would be good to see a similar test using the “pro” features of these phones, like shooting in raw

  • Marques and his team single handedly changed the smartphone camera game with these experiments. Pretty sure there'll be a lot of board room meetings at the end of this festive season.

  • This experiment is nuts! Im happy for you it turned out this well with so much data! It would be SO cool if something like this existed but with the video quality of phones!

  • Interesting. With the “standard” shot, I often found myself picking quite bright photos, even if the background was too bright. These bright photos highlighted out the detail in your face, which is more important than whether the background is washed out or not. I wonder how the results would change with different person as the subject? Would the “best” camera be the one that identifies the subject and picks the the best exposure for them?

    • well, not "best" according to many people voting I guess

  • You've really outdone yourself this year Marques! I teach high school maths I think I'm going to show my kids this as a demonstration on the statistical thinking process. Great example of improving from a previous experiment, setting up a new one, performing it, analysing, discussing results and concluding with other random observations. Just perfect.

    • @Kenya Tanzania 😅

    • @Aashutosh iPhone 14 pro max is just a copycat of Nothing phone 1🎉

    • Ikrr!!! This was so cool

  • I love this experiment, but I think for next year it needs a selfie test too

  • Great video and data collection. Really good work! My one problem with this in terms of the analysis is that each phone is essentially a probability distribution that you sample from, and here you sample from the distribution once (or three times for the three categories) and used that single sample for the analysis to draw conclusions about the phone from. If I were to try to improve this study I would definitely recommend taking several pictures instead of one for each phone and each category, then randomly selecting one of the pictures for that phone to show to the user to vote for. This essentially tries to control for the variability that comes from the random process of each individual phone.

  • Mine were 1. Pixel 7 pro 2. S22 Ultra 3. Mate 50 Pro This was a really something new kind of test I have been to and it's really good keep innovating MKBHD

    • congratulations👆👆 you've won🎉 some package let's talk with the 👆 above name 👆👆👆 only one on telegram

  • This test was so interesting that I watched it twice! For me, these results are much more important than for example DxO reviews. I consider to buy a Pixel but for now I am pretty happy with my Samsung S20. Till end January 2023 there will be a load of data²! Wow!

  • Marques and the team really pulled an absolute scientific W. Mad respect btw, this experiment really was something else.

  • An actually scientific experiment on youtube. props to you, Marques!

    • all those years of Google Photos free cloud service sure come in handy to perfect that Pixel's post image processing for social media via AI this is not a camera comparison

    • title should change to best smartphone camera for self instagram whoring everything else is unrelated

    • @Supern’t 4 main goals of science, not scientific experiment. And absolutely, they must be satisfied depending on the research method/design used. The experiment, as a quantitative type, chiefly aims to explain and to influence.

    • @Anwar LL Where did you come up with your 4 goals of scientific experiment? Those 4 goals are not needed to be satisfied to be considered science.

  • This is seriously impressive, should be the new benchmark methodology for these comparisons!

  • This is so interesting to see data backed smartphone camera rating, great stuff, Thanks Marques!!

  • Awesome work. It's a shame you won't be compensated from the cell companies because they will absolutely hit the drawing board with this body of work.

  • What about the telephoto lens and macro shots? Those would be also good for the test. Great job!

  • That is some amazing work!! Wonder how the results would look like with videos instead of pictures!

  • As a data scientist, im so happy with how amazing all this turned out. Truly good stuff

    • @Abraham Oluwagbenga what? Dude that doesn't even make any sense. I'm talking about the orientation. All pictures were taken in portrait mode (vertical) while the website cropped them to landscape (horizontal) which means a noticeable part from top and bottom was cut off.

    • @Tim R. the effect of the landscape is based on the phone's actual camera's focal length and degree of view.

    • It wasn't really "scientific" at all tho. He took all pictures in portrait mode but all pictures on his website for this were cropped to squares or even landscape which means you lose literally almost HALF the picture. And that has huge impact of how a picture turns out, how it looks etc.

    • @The After Show Good point. I think different subjects would make for an even more robust dataset.

    • Loooved this experiment and I had a grin the entire time. But I wonder if the results were skewed a little bit because of Marcus' complexion? Different cameras take pictures differently for people with darker skin. Google recently made an entire point of trying to fix this problem with their image processing. Do you think it's a coincidence that the Google phones performed better because of that? Just a thought.

  • I really enjoyed this video and voting! I wish they had added a 2x zoom shot. 2x wouldn't have been terrible for phones with or without a telephoto and it's magnification all phones can take advantage of. I also wish there was a few more budget phones. If that phone had a high end model there should have been a more budget minded option.

  • Great video. So valuable. Love watching this. Pity there isn't a longer and more detailed version. You guys just need to learn that there is a very precise definition of "scientific experiment".

  • I found it interesting that though the P6A had a higher score, the P7P generally had (traditionally) better processing.

  • I love these tests. They have a major influence on my purchasing decisions for phones. I would love to see an optional explanation field for voting so that people can elaborate on why they prefer one photo to another. This would be very interesting for the dunks to see what those 1500 people saw.

  • I just wanna say, thanks for taking this on Marques. I think this would’ve required a lot of organization and dedication to doing the work to pull it off well, and it’s amazing that you’ve got the resources as a creator to pull it off. kudos! 🎉 I haven’t voted yet, because I just found out about it, but i will soon.

  • Now that’s what we call a “tech review”. The amount of effort you put in this shows your passion towards quality content. Awesome mate. ❤

    • @Jay Palmer cope

    • Nothing to do with the vast amount of money he earns from doing so...... :-)

  • Man I liked the Xperia standard photo! It came in top three for me. And seeing the shot here, it looks great! It looks like an actual camera took the picture. Can't believe people ranked it so low. Harumph.

  • It's amazing that the Pixel 6a beat out all the others overall considering it's price. Now I'm going to check out it's video quality from other reviews. I'm looking for a new phone so this was great!

    • @Nikijs I got the Pixel 6a about a week ago. I haven't had the chance to really test it out yet but so far I like it. The finger print detector is a little glitchy but I just type in the backup phone code and I'm in, seems to be a common issue.

    • Which phone did you get?

  • Would love to see the front camera ranking too

  • It would be cool to see how much the results change now with the names up, to see how effective the blind testing really is

    • The iPhone would win. So no it wouldn't.

  • Would you ever include video in this? I think you got 3 of the main features that people use their camera for to take a photo. But without video that is only like testing half of the camera. I’d be curious to see if that changes the results. You could do normal video, slow mo, and time-lapse?

  • As an ex-market researcher/ demand forecasting professional, I really appreciated the team implementing some scientific/ statistical rigour into the voting methodology this year! Crowd sourcing large sample sizes allows for so much extra potential in granular analysis like this. Looking forward to next year!

    • @poOgee No apologies needed, all good fun, happy holidays!

    • @3knw LOL I'm so sorry. My last day of work for the year was literally yesterday so it'll take me a bit of time to get out of "work mode"

    • @3knw lol

    • The Mas0nic hand gesture for the night photo 1:10 tells me enough about this whole thing.

    • I hope they make the data open source

  • I'd love to see the last years (and maybe second last years) winner included in each contest. This would give an idea if there has been a general good trend in the industry and/or how software updates improve "old" phones.

  • one of the best experiments on phones ever made! Kudos man! Loving it!

  • Brilliant presentation and super idea of comparison. Keep up the good content !

  • This video is very well put together and thought out. The research and content are original and very impressive.

  • Great review. Thanks! I think a moving object photo category is missing. Many parents out there are interested in such a category

  • I gotta say 2 things. I was underwhelmed with the previous year's comparison due to the method being questionable but this is amazing. It's probably the best way to do it. Second thing, wow, the Pixels are still the kings of photography years later

    • I suppose it’s interesting but makes sense. A largely AI and data driven company squeezes the most out of software based photos

    • @Envy1337 do you mean that the framing wasn't exactly the same? He covers that in the video. Focal lengths and framing aren't identical across all phones. The photos were all taken with the phones in the same physical position.

  • The test and this video just made me buy a new phone. This is crazy. Thank you, Marques and the team.

  • This was an awesome experiment! I much prefer this over the old ones on twitter, because we had much better quality and more visual information to work with.

  • Wow! You guys took it to a whole new level! This was AMAZING 👏 🙌

  • Great idea. But I hope you recorded the screen monitor type used by users(ie phone, apple monitors, cheap monitors, etc) because everyone will see different colors/hues. Some products look better on certain viewing screens

  • If possible then next time you can try to put all photos of different phone in same page (so we do a quick comparison) with option to open each original photo, and people can rate each photo on a scale. Also put more than one photo for daylight, portrait, night, night with flash, indoor, direct sunlight, and even some video samples too. Because people who want to spend 15 to 20 minutes of their time on voting they can spend some more time to give accurate result.

  • This would instantly be the standard. I am sure the mobile phone companies would be using this asap. Expect to see improvement for most losing phones next year. Welldone Marcus!

    • all those years of Google Photos free cloud service sure come in handy to perfect that Pixel's post image processing for social media via AI this is not a camera comparison

    • title should change to best smartphone camera for self instagram whoring everything else is unrelated

    • @Techie Ant Ask ChatGPT, the worlds latest and greatest AI that knows absolutely everything and can answer any question imaginable (by the way, it's free as well, for now)

    • *Markass Brownie

    • Why Marcus? 😭😂

  • Maybe the best and most complete camera comparison on youtube, I was waiting this video and still waiting the nominations for best phone of year. Marques never disappoints

  • Hello Marques, amazingly done 😅 What are your thoughts about having an option to not like either of the two photos presented in the match-up, at present we have to like one in any case even when we clearly don’t like either of them

    • congratulations👆👆 you've won🎉 some package let's talk with the 👆 above name 👆👆👆 only one on telegram .....

  • This is a really useful comparison. I would also like to see the addition of a wide angled landscape photo. Think that would make the comparison more well rounded. A photo that includes green grass and buildings, with a blue or grey sky above. That would soon sort out any cameras with over saturation or colour casts.
