  • ah yeah.. the car i was concieved in.

  • shame its a GTI (Prestige long wheelbase) with the boring dash .. but yes fab cars. also not its not advised to drive these in high or ultra low suspention settings .. low is to release the pressure for maintanance work. high can be used carefully for deep water but mostly for spare wheel changes. simply lift the suspension slide in the jack .. take up the hight with the jack then select low.. the car will drop and the jacked up corner wheel will raise off the ground

  • A lot of these were parked on a hill and when you came back it was at the bottom of the hill because the handbrake was on the discs & when they cooled they just let the brake off Plus they were a pig to work on due to being French !

  • Jadore

  • When I got married in 1980 in Spain my wife was brought to the church in that type of car.

  • You can leave the car on three wheels with that suspension.

  • You really love the word quirky

  • Car is a lot more more restrained than presenter. He really is weird, don't understand the flailing arm action and squeaky excited voice.

  • Beautul looking car.. I've never understood why Citroën never sold well here in the USA.

  • This car is an ergonomic nightmare

  • Poo-geot

  • I'd love to own it!

  • Opens driver door with the right hand ...

  • @doug the curved back window is also in Citroen C5 x7. It has 2 purposes.. 1- bigger opening trunk space and 2- it helps keep window clean during rain

  • I have Citroën CX Estate from 1991. And now I have Citroën C5 Estate serie 3. And Citroën CX is the most comfortable car I drove. It is car ahead of its time.

  • I workt for a car recond firm, and we got a Citroen Similar to this to recond. When it was done i drove it back to the carfirm. It was in the next town. I started to drive and the car was wonderful to drive, but sudenly i got problem in the curves, it was hard to Master, when i looked at the speed i undersod why, i was driving 200 km/h, but it felt like 90. My God what a car. 😹🤣

  • I am from europe and have experience with cars and different brands I can say say that french cars are bad cars really bad! to don't say the worst !

  • cap cup holders were not designed like that

  • love your videos doug, but please look up the proper pronounciation of "citroën", you got porsche and maybach just right

  • You should review Renault Clio

  • Even newer boring Citrons have the uncancelling turn lights. Total headache. Also the boring ones have strange selfadjusting rear suspension, total headache when they get old.

  • Run away from it as fast as you can.

  • I laughed so hard at this video. Many of them are funny but Doug cracked me up with this ugly car.

  • The other thing you forgot to mention as an advantage of the self levelling suspensions that you can still drive them with 3 tyres shot up. Before the CX there was the DS, and it was when when Charles de Gaulle had someone try an assassinate him while in a Citroën DS, and with 3 tyres shot up he was still able to drive away, and it was then that he decided that Citroën would make the presidential cars of France.

  • I wish Doug investigates more about cars, many times he get facts wrong. Also stop saying things are weird because they are not american, like, bruh, come on.

  • And I miss a lot of things... You can drive this car with only 3 wheels, you can drive this with one flat tire, you can use the hydropneumatic suspension for changing the wheels... Mercedes and Bentley/Rolls Royce use the same green oil for their luxury suspensions, Mercedes copied the Citroen suspension. The CX was a decent Rally-car, even on sandy dusty roads in North Africa. The CX has no problems with heavy side winds, you can drive this car with no hands straight on. And the brakes... high pressure brakes, with the hydropneumatic system. You press only a valve to put up a lot of brake pressure on the wheels.

  • Prestige was the name for the longer model of Citroen CX like this one. Pallas was another model name for more Extras, luxury version.

  • Thisssss!

  • When are you doing an esprit v8 ?

  • The design is gorgeous and has been replicated, without its weirder parts such as the cover of wheels, by by other car manufacturers (e.g. those Audi sportsbacks of the 2000s-2010s). If only Groupe PSA that bought Citroen had continued that tradition.

  • Hands down the most amazing car I ever owned - driving always felt like playing a computer game on the couch. I had a 1990 estate model 2.5td with 3 rows of seats. Still miss it.

    • Familiale estate? Always loved Citroen cars, DS, SM, sheesh, even the BX and the XM. Quality cars indeed. The fact that they weren't like other cars on the market made them all the more special.

  • I'm living in Germany and back in the 1980's and 1990's those Citroen Limousines were common cars here. Upper middleclass cars. Haven't seen one on the road for a long time.

  • Futuristic car. Blade Runner Car.

  • So much memory in this car. it was my grand father's car in the 80/90's. Not this version but the diesel one : the TRD turbo 2. It was sound like a diesel generator, the ride was boatty and it wasn't very reliable. After I had my license, It was my first car. I loved it One interesting thing on this : breaks and suspension are linked by the hydrolic system. and the braks are very hard and very strong.

  • my grandpa has citroen gs 1,3 super

  • Excuse me but that steering wheel is 🔥

  • Citroën may sound very exotic in the U.S. Ironically is a very popular brand in Europe, especially in France, Spain and Portugal. Of course current Citroëns have nothing to do with the quirky ones from the 70's and 80's. In fact I own a Citroën Xsara, a Peugeot-based model from the late 90's.

  • I'm still waiting for you to do a Nissan Pulsar...

  • First: you are not supposed to ride the car in any other height setting than the one marked with a square. The highest position can be used, but only at low speed. It is very useful when crossing an arched bridge and you get stuck in the middle. Second: the two satellites on both sides of the steering wheel are the most comfortable I have ever driven with (once you get used to it). You can operate every function without taking your hands from the wheel and they don't get in the way when you have to make a sharp turn. And of course, the usual sticks aren't there so they cannot break. BTW the Citroen GSA had even quirkier satellites, that looked more like tin cans on both sides, one with all of the functions, the other with all of the pushbuttons. It also had a very peculiar hand break. Third: the suspension was fabulous (although it got worse with every new model that came out from DS, CX, GSA, BX, C5 to C6) but still it is a shame that Citroen has abandoned it. Fourth: the seats, they almost hugged you, it was like sitting on your fathers' couch. It indeed is amazingly quirky, but at the same time, it was an amazing car. Pity that it already was rusty when you watched it in the folder.

    • You forgot to place Xantia in your specification, which was between BX and C5 :)

  • The back rear window is curve (23:30) is because, they claim that the rain drops will not be easy to stay on it, due to the air dynamic, and it seems to be that way! :)

  • I think the returning to straight steering wheel is beneficial if your wheel alignment is a bit off or your tires are uneven so it will force the car to go straight regardless rather than drifting to one side.

  • This is downright one of the most terrible cars you reviewed Doug lol. I was going to say "special" until I saw the spare in the engine compartment. Wow, just wow!

  • Unique and beautiful car, nice presentation 😊

  • there actually is a gear pattern, its a sticker, but its missing!

  • Take a good look at the Nissan LEAF - it is a modernised design styled on the Citroen DS.

  • Single-branch steering wheels and hydro-pneumatic suspension were introduced in the Citroën DS in the 1950's.

  • Ok but it's an old car. Most of the features are awesome. I think for this suspension in Mercedes you pay 8,000 $ extra these days.

  • 21:27 the Family Truckster

  • The first the Luxe sedan aerodinamic with only 4 cilinders put with perfomance of v-8 cilinders is Incredible and is very large very elegant is sow spectacular

  • big weird car

  • Back in the early 80s I owned a Citroen Ami 8 SW. It had an 800 cc two cylinder engine and was exhaustingly slow and noisy. It was by all standards the ugliest car ever built and parked beside my dad's Porsche Carrera the contrast was striking. I once parked it on a steep hill and the hand brake malfunctioned. When I went back to the car, it was literally crumpled against a Mercedes parked a meter from my car. The Mercedes had practically no damage, mine had to be towed away.

  • Where's Jawed?

  • selfcanceling indicatores should be forbidden

  • the french copy nobody and nobody copies the french

  • Would the heat from the engine damage the spare tire?

  • How much car new

  • Cool desighn

  • The rear window is shaped so water runs down/doesn't collect on the surface whilst driving, removing the need for a rear wiper.

  • Fun fact: you seen the playlist called jawed commented on these videos

  • I had a friend back in Germany around the mid 80´s who owned a CX and it was most amazing "cruising along" long distance at 110-115 mile /h (around 180 km/h), that car was floating and at the same time glued to the road... never experienced anything similar since...(I have driven Porsche, Bentley, High class BMW, Mercedes and own a 750IL 12cyl 1995 Beemer...)

  • Tres laid.

  • The C5 and C6 are not 25 years old yet so you may not import them to the US but you may import the interesting BX, XM and pre-facelift Xantia.

  • I came here from jawed, but what a weird but legendary car!! Jeremy Clarkson used it as a campervan :9

  • I never seen a spare tyre in the engine hoods

  • The Citroën CX also has side view mirrors that were shared between 3 other cars! (McLaren F1, Lotus Esprit Turbo and the Aston Martin DB7 Vantage)

    • A fourth one is MVS Venturi,

  • Nice French car!

  • 1986 Citroën CX25

  • Haha love this car! Just look at the interior and the dashboard setup. Beautiful We had a old 740 (combi/wagon) and one of our neighbours had a version of this one. Me and my friend always argued about which one was better :) Once, both our dads settled for this us by agreeing with: Citroen CX is more comfortable and Volvo 740 is more reliable.

  • Looks better than the 2021 Honda Accord!! Sign me up

  • I adore this car. It's so cool! The wheel, the exterior look, and the seat stitching is all so cool!

  • Does americans really open cars left door with right hand 😂😂😂

  • The older CX's are the one of the most beautiful cars ever. This one is kind of a mongrel. Plastic is ugly.

  • I recon this is one of the most beautiful car designs ever

  • What an interesting car , the French should be proud of it as the Swedes with their Volvo 240.

  • This guy gets on my nerves !

  • Terrible looking

  • I want Clarkson's version of this car

  • 29:16

  • I'm just here to find Jewed's comment lol

  • In Germany we called that car "The Palanquin" and the "Break" version made some vans turn pale (Especially with the high roof) because of its loading capacity in combination with the air suspension... Greetings from Germany

  • Doug, remember that in that period, only 6 and 8 cylinder cars had 160 HP such as the Ford Capri 2.8 injection with 160 HP which was Ford UK's fastest car at the time. So 170 HP from a 4 cyliner was remarkable. Also ABS was only found on Airplanes and the most expensive cars; even the Ford Capri or the Flagship Ford Granad didn't come equipped with ABS, and many Toyotas didn't get it until much later. So hence the badging to show off what it was about. May European cars had radios in that position too.

  • Doug sometimes reminds me of enos from the dukes of hazzard

  • One of the prettiest cars they ever built was the early 70s Citroen DS. It too was ahead of its time.

  • What an absolute slump of a car.

  • for years i thought The Citroen CX Grace Jones commercial was a weird dream about a music video i had as a kid and didn't exist

    • The Grace Jones video that used a CX ad snippet is "Slave to the rhythm" and it exists. The ad and the video were made by Grace's former companion Jean-Paul Goude. There are also other snippets of ads made by Goude (Lee Cooper, Kodak, Orangina...) : cs-tv.org/tv/video-LlnKPcbAEM8.html

  • 18:48 Immediately to me, that rear sun shade looks aftermarket, but I'm not sure. It just doesn't look OEM at all to me. 19:49 And earlier Doug was marveling at the "quirky" sound of Citroen's horn, but here you can plainly see that it too is definitely aftermarket.

  • 7:00 Citroen logic: *"Aight, shoot yourself outta here."*

  • A lot of strange stuff for you are normal stuff for a citroënist ! The spare tire in the hood is a citroën "proud" decision to allow acces when you're going on vacations with the car full. The turn signals not going back with the wheel was also considered as "dagerous" by citroën !

  • I was a Citroen fan and owning a Gs club, Cs both car and estate a Bx all fabulously reliable but nobody wanted them when it was time to say good bye. As a toy about town a 2 cv and the ultimate was a Lomax which i towed on a special trailer behind my camper, even had Spanish police stop just to look at the car.

  • Why would you open the drivers door with your right hand??? That's crossing your body and blocking the path into the doorway

  • jawed

  • Who opens the driver's door with their right hand?

  • Doug, you're weird

  • Spare wheel in the bonnet😂👌

  • Citroen CX was so advanced for that times. America cannot build such of car. Sorry.

  • Only ' prestige ' and ' limousine ' versions had these long rear doors. The ' pallas ' and others had shorter ones

  • Light on the ceiling switches on when you flip it to the left or the right. Further, the early CX's had a much quirkier design, rotating dials,, etc

  • 3:18 - Le oil pressure says 'le non. I am le tired'.

  • he did not just say "POOGEOT" 😭
