Was here to say the same thing. The brakes on nfs unbound are honestly revolutionary. I just picked up a ps5 and am honestly in love with the adaptive triggers
@raccman Same, I play GTA 5 with my dad all the time and the adaptive triggers sometimes are just alone enough to change a bad day to a good day, and they’re not locked to any setting like this Xbox thing is
my thoughts exactly. not much heat in there, but added with the ambient heat of human hands holding it for an extended period of time won't help. he should have just gotten some heavier springs.
Fellow PS5 owner here, doing stuff like this is fun for controllers that aren't as capable, whether it's something you just randomly thought about doing or doing it just after getting recommended a how-to short on CS-tv The dualsense having trigger pressure is a blessing but doing a DIY project for something similar on a xbox controller is just as good 😊 Edit: jesus christ this comments section, if you're new to this comment's replies be careful and DON'T THROW MORE FUEL AT THE FLAMES, thank you
Dude, low tech upgrades to electronics like this are really interesting to me. I would consider adding the snap on horseshoe shaped thumb stick extender as well.
I did this last year to my X1 controller and I really like it! Initial Unity and Assetto Corsa are super fun on a controller while my wheel is not available
@Jordan Koontz you do know you can have Dualsense working on a PC with haptics and adaptive triggers? I am playing forza with dualsense atm and it’s fucking amazing 🤩
Cool mod! I think for a dedicated racing controller, you should also include some kind of extension for the left stick as imprecision in steering inputs is one of the main disadvantages in controller racing
It’s funny you did a video like this, I had an elite controller that never fully went to 100% pressure and had to change the sense to super high for it to hit a 100% and ever since that was like my secret weapon, throttle in Forza was always on point with only having to move so little. I’d keep a lot of pressure on the shell of the controller to simulate actual throttle feel and it worked perfectly
@Speedster 81 @Speedster 81 If you're looking for your first controller, you shouldn't be here, and heres 2 reasons why: 1 This video literally requires you to have a controller and also if you have a wheel why are you watching videos for a steering wheel alternative and if you dont have a steering wheel why are you talking them up as if youve had one for half a year and its been great everytime you used it
FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO DONT KNOW YOUR FOAMS: That's polyethylene foam, which has a melting point of 100-210° meaning that with the controllers normal temperature of ~80-90° and your hand being about 97.8° he should be fine to do that without melting, The motherboard is capable of withstanding high amounts of pressure and he didn't place anything on pins, the double sided tape adds a layer of protection for the board, so he should be safe there too, just don't expect the foam to last too long because of the amount of pressure it'll take under constant use.
Well you see there’s definite potential depending on the type of foam mostly because your putting it in a electrical system so long the foam is anti static you should be good to go
No, because it'll mess with the trigger vibration. And the buttons already have plenty of tension. I can only see myself doing this on a broken or old controller.
I drilled out the sticks on the inside to make them go down deeper because in PvP situations my sticks caused me to over rotate or aim too fast and caused me to die so I made my sticks shorter without cutting them
Lol xbox elite controller > paddles for shifting, built in extended thumbsticks, thumbstick tension adjustment, and more tension in the triggers. Ps5 controller mid
Lol xbox elite controller > paddles for shifting, built in extended thumbsticks, thumbstick tension adjustment, and more tension in the triggers. Ps5 controller mid
@Sup Henny really tryina brag with forza you gotta be joking ?? You need some games with actual graphics like any of the ps5 titles… oh wait ur console can’t handle those I forgot
Before breaking your gamepad... you can lower sensitivity of triggers, then, the main problem of gamepad remains the steering. There are some wheels without FFB for less than 100€ around. Obviously, my greatest tip remains getting a FFB wheel and wheelstand, is an expense worther than three GPUs
besides the foam probably melting onto your board, excessive force may cause either the trigger mount to break due to it have something in the way of sending the trigger fully down when it’s supposed to therefore straining the mount and causing it to break or idk how to explain this one but having something thicker and being compressed onto the part of the board that’s built for a small piece of plastic touching it may cause the board to break idk about this one though
his official review: "i really love how it turned out, would you guys try this?" well im not sure cuz you didnt tell me if it felt like a pedal or its just super stiff for no reason now

I think PlayStation controllers adaptive triggers are great but it’s cool how you manage seed this one😊
Was here to say the same thing. The brakes on nfs unbound are honestly revolutionary. I just picked up a ps5 and am honestly in love with the adaptive triggers
But what if he has an xbox then he cant use it
@Mexzley van Damme not true, using a ximm or chronus its really simple to use a ps5 controller on xbox. Some features may be missing but its doable
@raccman Same, I play GTA 5 with my dad all the time and the adaptive triggers sometimes are just alone enough to change a bad day to a good day, and they’re not locked to any setting like this Xbox thing is
I also love how the joysticks are placed at the bottom and they don’t run out of battery Avery 2 seconds *cough cough* XBOX
That foam is going to disintegrate and make a huge mess.
my thoughts exactly. not much heat in there, but added with the ambient heat of human hands holding it for an extended period of time won't help. he should have just gotten some heavier springs.
It will also add way more stress on the motherboard and plastic of the trigger.
@Ben Franklinyour hand doesn’t really rest where the foam is though
@EQUALIXER thats not how heat works lmao, it doesnt just stay where ur hand is, and ur fingers are also on the triggers
No it really won't lol
This is the equivalent of taking your springs out of a car and replacing it with mattresses it's going to work for that moment
Well kind of it's more like adding a mattress in without taking out the springs.
PS5 has had this for 3 years now without having to take apart your controller 😅
Fellow PS5 owner here, doing stuff like this is fun for controllers that aren't as capable, whether it's something you just randomly thought about doing or doing it just after getting recommended a how-to short on CS-tv The dualsense having trigger pressure is a blessing but doing a DIY project for something similar on a xbox controller is just as good 😊 Edit: jesus christ this comments section, if you're new to this comment's replies be careful and DON'T THROW MORE FUEL AT THE FLAMES, thank you
Oh yeah sorry i forgot ps has forza
@Mr Table678 glad it doesn't
I forgot that PlayStation had Forza
Tbh i always turn off the function unless im on pc playing assetto corsa. Its the only game that uses it well and its on pc not ps5 lol..
Now I get to explain to my wife why I have carpal tunnel
"I wanted to make a controller for racing" "I literally just put foam under the triggers and nothing else"
Yeah, it makes sense to try it one mod at a time
And played FH4.
Ooo people don't like that you called it like it is....
Why not make the brake trigger have more tension than the gas and give them asymmetrical tension, just like in a car
So you mean just to copy the Dualsense
@SUPER DANI no bc he never put adaptive triggers on
The tension on gas makes it easier to make small adjustments without over doing it
@jjebbut isn’t realistic and would get mad fatigued
@jjeb but tension on the brakes would also do the same so why not both?
I like how soft spoken he is. Not shouting in our faces as an intro like a lot of other YT shorts lol
the brake is the one with more tension 😭, your finger would die if you actually used this for racing games
Cringe emoji.
Careful with this, the plastic pivot point on the trigger will experience more stress and could break.
Yeah the PCB is gonna love that extra pressure on it.....
How much extra pressure though? If it’s a foam piece. The weight is distributed pretty wide and honestly should have not much impact
@BrightRed I think they meant the part of the PCB that connects the trigger to the rest of the circuit
Dude, low tech upgrades to electronics like this are really interesting to me. I would consider adding the snap on horseshoe shaped thumb stick extender as well.
I always love when my first idea actually works for projects like this
We're all going to die
@Sun God Se yes
@Sun God Se yes
@Sun God Se yes
@Sun God Se yes
Gran Turismo 7 with the PS5 controller is amazing, you feel the road with the haptics and there's tension on the triggers
feels even better with an actual steering wheel… and dont get me started on sims like rFactor 2 and iRacing, heaven in your hands
@stibblrit feels even better driving the car -_-
@Guero Sanchez T how does it feel to drive a $700k track only race car?
@ItsATrap! You don't get it do you?
@stibblr Yeah well I’m not gonna waste my money on a controller wheel where I can only use on one game/one genre.
I did this last year to my X1 controller and I really like it! Initial Unity and Assetto Corsa are super fun on a controller while my wheel is not available
Dualsense do that by default 😂
good point, let me go launch forza on my ps5
Ah yes , Forza Horizon ps5 edition (limited time )
@Jordan Koontz you do know you can have Dualsense working on a PC with haptics and adaptive triggers? I am playing forza with dualsense atm and it’s fucking amazing 🤩
Cool mod! I think for a dedicated racing controller, you should also include some kind of extension for the left stick as imprecision in steering inputs is one of the main disadvantages in controller racing
I love making my perfect electronic item more of a fire hazard
It's cool that the ps5's controllers just do that on their own
That’s exactly what I was thinking
You can't even get fh5 on ps5 you gremlin
@CocaineDemonTTV PC?
@Blu3Mane yeah you can but I shows Xbox is better cause you need game pass for it
@CocaineDemonTTV Something called gran tourismo 7. And btw I’ve played both, gt7 is leagues above fh5
Ah yes more muscle pain. Excatly what I was looking for. Like a hard to press gas pedal in a car. On the brake side on the other hand that makes sense
That’s so cool!! Good thing I don’t have to destroy my controller cause it’s a dual sense 😂
I remember when I was a kid playing on the O.G Xbox, I used to love the feel and the texture of the controller.
The Duke controller is just horrible.
Great work! Now i challange you to make a simple force feedback for the joysticks
Great idea man, awsome idea, definitely make more control on the throttle
Springs with higher tension would have probably worked best for long term.
I use the right stick as my throttle and brake. I love it.
Now make the area of the sticks larger so they can move more and add a little more tension to them. Then we have a full racing controller
i love how you can easily remove the foam and make the controller back to normal unlike other mods which permanently change the controller
Heck yeah I wanna try it. She should make this into a project.
That's heaps good mate I've always wanted to find a way to make my controller better for racing thanks heaps mate 👍👍👍
Man just made a ps5 controller 💀
I think you just figured out how a lot of different custom and expensive controllers are made that’s awesome!!!!
Imagine having the going 1st place on a match and then feel sudden sensation of burning in your fingers
_dualsense has left the chat_
Ah yes forza on ps5
@alexandre lemasson forza is not the only racing game and it isn’t even that good.
@astifeux cough cough- in your opinion
@astifeux oh shit up
Gran Turismo has left the chat…
HKS PS3 Controller was a controller explicitly made for racing games and it was badass
I'm definitely gonna do this with my spare controller since I play Forza literally so much.
just buy a Ps5 controller with haptic feedback
Yes but no see he only owns an Xbox and sadly you can’t combine a Sony ps5 controller with a Microsoft Xbox One
@Leland Shivers homebrew
@AssGrabber valid
🤣
It’s funny you did a video like this, I had an elite controller that never fully went to 100% pressure and had to change the sense to super high for it to hit a 100% and ever since that was like my secret weapon, throttle in Forza was always on point with only having to move so little. I’d keep a lot of pressure on the shell of the controller to simulate actual throttle feel and it worked perfectly
thought i was the only one that did this to old controllers for racing throttle feathering. nice.
Yea, but you could just get a Logitech F310. I have a F510 and it has really powerful vibrations perfect for feedback and high resistance triggers
Yeah bc a piece of sponge costs more than 20$
@Sup Henny um, yeah, maybe some people could be looking for their first controller...?
@Speedster 81 @Speedster 81 If you're looking for your first controller, you shouldn't be here, and heres 2 reasons why: 1 This video literally requires you to have a controller and also if you have a wheel why are you watching videos for a steering wheel alternative and if you dont have a steering wheel why are you talking them up as if youve had one for half a year and its been great everytime you used it

Find me a set up with clutch and brake having this same feel and I'll be set
Isn’t there a chance of the foam catching on fire? If not it’s a really dope DIY
no 😂
Yes depending on foam type , if it’s conductive then don’t even think about starting that controller
Well you see there’s definite potential depending on the type of foam mostly because your putting it in a electrical system so long the foam is anti static you should be good to go
@Leland Shivers okay 👍🏻
Playstation owners: “Look what they need to mimic a fraction of our power”💀
Oh damn interesting, I'd love to see something to increase tension on the stick too!
No, because it'll mess with the trigger vibration. And the buttons already have plenty of tension. I can only see myself doing this on a broken or old controller.
bro created the joint breaker 1,000.
Now use closed cell foam for the brakes, since brakes are much tougher to push then the gas. ;)
Just got a PS5!
I'm sure you could find a legit progressive replacement spring for the trigger but a job done... Is well... Done😅
I honestly think you should find a way to make these with something more high quality than the foam and sell them I'd absolutely buy one
Duelsense: look at what you need to mimic a fraction of my power
ive always wanted to design a contraption that'll turn a regular controller into a Steering wheel and pedal set.
Theres a kid on youtube with a Cardboard setup thats nutty uses controller
somehow the quote "the harder you press the faster it gets" make sense with this controller hahaha
*DualSense controller has quit the chat*
Exactly ps5 has this standard lol
@TechThisOutfacts
@TechThisOutbut it doesn’t work that good on ps5 and the ps5 controller is unreliable
@Dylan Lawson???
@Dylan Lawson 1. It works amazing, 2. Ps has the most reliable controllers on the market
What kind of padding did you use? I'm thinking of doing this to my controller.
As some one who doesn't play racing games this looks awesome
man's index fingers are going to grow six-packs
I have a Chinese controller that uses pressure sensors. Takes a lot to get 100 but works great
Yes , this is a must need . I hate how easy the triggers are , and want 3 different controllers. 1 as default 1 for driving 1 for gun perfection
I drilled out the sticks on the inside to make them go down deeper because in PvP situations my sticks caused me to over rotate or aim too fast and caused me to die so I made my sticks shorter without cutting them
Longer sticks are much more precise
I like the idea, but I think this controller might not last as long as a stock controller. I guess you could always open it up again to fix it though.
Now you got to find a way to use your feet
Sony enthusiasts: Look what they need to mimic a fraction of our power.
I'm gonna do this when my elite 2 controller comes in
*Dualsense entered the chat*
Someone get this guy a Playstation 5
Me who got a way to fix my DualShock 4 which has on of them metal pins missing just a floppy R2.
some foam can be slightly conductive tho make sure you insolate it so it doens short the board
so ya basically want weighted & resistive triggers? try the PS5 😉
The gas pedal is the easy one to press. Brake pedal should be the one with more tension
You might want to try springs over foam, if the foam gets too warm and melts that controller is destroyed
Ps5 controllers left the chat
@Brayden Shelton 👎
@Brayden Shelton👎
Ok have fun playing forza on your ps5 lol
@afj810 Will do playing the better games playstaion has to offer👍
@afj810Ok, Gran Turismo will do since it's nearly the same
DS5 Controller with DSX program on steam and you have this without taking apart your controller.
I would work on steering more than throttle lol
no i don't because i have a ps5 😂😂😂😂
Unfortunate
Lol xbox elite controller > paddles for shifting, built in extended thumbsticks, thumbstick tension adjustment, and more tension in the triggers. Ps5 controller mid
Lol xbox elite controller > paddles for shifting, built in extended thumbsticks, thumbstick tension adjustment, and more tension in the triggers. Ps5 controller mid
also i use a thrustmaster tx for racing, because playing racing games with a controller in the first place is for amateurs
@Townes Fly I'm not sure if you knew this but there's a new ps5 controller with all those features...
PS5 controller trigger motor has left the chat
Mclovin giving the great mods
Love that I don’t have to do this with my PS5 controller, GT7 feels insane with the adaptive triggers
Yeah I love playing Forza on playstation
@Failra Forza hasn’t been good in years, at least not Motorsport.
@Kay Horizon gets better every year fym
@Failra horizon is dying though. People done vids on fh6 possibly being the last one they do
If you ever drove the accelerator has no tension at all, it's only the clutch and brake which has slight tension.
If ai didn’t have an unreasonably expensive controller that Incould control this on, I might actually do this.
Naw man. Your fingers would get tired. Best thing is trigger loops for ultimate control. Also bumper extensions
"you're a grown ass man just go out and drive a car" 🤣
Could always just buy a ps5 😂
Yeah so many forza titles on there huh
@Sup Henny really tryina brag with forza you gotta be joking ?? You need some games with actual graphics like any of the ps5 titles… oh wait ur console can’t handle those I forgot
@M901 did bro just say fh5 has bad graphics?
@Ziobreak 366 compared to GT7, it does.
When I’m playing Forza I just adjust triggers on my Dualsense to be more stiff and it works really great!
Just get a Logitech wheel + pedals (and shifter) and you can even use it on PC. For 600 bucks total you also have a budget for a starter chair.
Get a ps5 with adaptive triggers
Forza isn't on Playstation
Wow awesome solution!!!
@Hayden walker it is, however; on PC and has support for the adaptive triggers available through mods
@Hayden walker Forza is shit and dead, who needs Forza if you can play NFS Unbound or GT7.
trustmasters had a 360 controller with longer triggers. loved that controller.. till it stopped working.
Do that to a elite controller and use the paddles for the car shifters 🔥
No
Okey buddy what ever you say
all fun in games till your finger grows its own muscles
Before breaking your gamepad... you can lower sensitivity of triggers, then, the main problem of gamepad remains the steering. There are some wheels without FFB for less than 100€ around. Obviously, my greatest tip remains getting a FFB wheel and wheelstand, is an expense worther than three GPUs
Guy sticks a chunk of plastic in a controller and calls it a day
Pretty cool, I wouldn't want to have a death grip on my controller for hours on end though
And i cant even fix a joystick that acts up a little 😂
I get the feeling fatigue might become an issue really fast
besides the foam probably melting onto your board, excessive force may cause either the trigger mount to break due to it have something in the way of sending the trigger fully down when it’s supposed to therefore straining the mount and causing it to break or idk how to explain this one but having something thicker and being compressed onto the part of the board that’s built for a small piece of plastic touching it may cause the board to break idk about this one though
Ps5 has had this for a while now, games like GT7 feel amazing on the adaptive triggers
his official review: "i really love how it turned out, would you guys try this?" well im not sure cuz you didnt tell me if it felt like a pedal or its just super stiff for no reason now
Ive always wanted better bumpers for padal shifting. Would be sweet to see a controller with clicky bumpers
