This is the absolutely huge Mercedes Actros L - and Mat’s about to take it on a test drive!
Now we’re guessing most of you are probably thinking why we’re reviewing a truck on CS-tv? Well, there’s a very good reason - this new Actros L is pretty much one of the most modern & advanced HGVs available today!
For starters, you’ll need to take a tour around the cabin. Not only does it come covered in high-quality materials and a driver's seat with oh-so-many adjustments, it even has a digital drivers display and cameras for side mirrors!
And as you’d expect, it’s packing some serious power! Thanks to the 13-litre straight-six turbo-diesel upfront, this Actros L can put down 530hp & a huge 2,600Nm of torque!
So if you were planning to drive trucks for a living, surely this is the only choice for you, right?! Or would you wait for a Tesla Semi? Let us know in the COMMENTS!

4:40 - Has Mat gone too far this time?! 🤦♂️
Probably xD
Perhaps?
Nop😂😂😂
Goddammit, the bots are here Edit: lol carwow deleted the bots
Knowing the car industry, this is probably just a prelude to the next wave of SUVs, Mat is just ahead of the competition.
Nah people will get frdup of their crossovers and move on to these trucks. The manufacturer's will add rear seats and some storage space for them
Well I'd take this over an SUV all day everyday.
13 liter diesel straight six in the next generation Mercedes GLE, sounds about right
Those brakes are insane. 40 tons moving at 80 km/h are close to 10 Million Joules of energy. Just dissipating this into heat and sound on only 33 meters is absolutely mindblowing.
You used the 1/2*m*v^2 formula
I know some cars even cant achieve that.
@Nuri Alço None car😂
Air brakes 😉
@Nick H Well actually air brakes don't matter that much, it's rather if it's a disc brake or a drum brake. A disc brake will give you that kind of performance easily but they need more frequent replacements whereas drum brakes can't achieve that level of performance as easily but require much less replacing.
Makes sense for a truck to be as or more luxurious as a car considering the amount of time truckers spend driving
It's still not as luxurious as a high end MB car. It's luxurious by truck standards but the quality and fitting of the materials is far worse than a luxury car, because trucks are work tools and in most cases the person who buys the truck isn't even the person who will be driving it so being cost effective is a much bigger concern. These high end trucks a more of a technology showcase for the manufacturer and very few people will actually buy them, they probably won't ever even make a profit on this model.
I wish my employer agreed with you. Our trucks are brand new and yet don't even have basics such as Bluetooth connectivity.
@Martin Bond big oof, our ones are pretty good equipt, not too much cuz we almost only do distribution work, our long distance trucks are full option models
@Sérgio Alves yeah sadly companies don’t give two shits about the truck drivers. Just look at the driver shortage in the usa right now
Just like how first class seat makes much more sense in international flight than shorter distance flight 👍🏻
Love matts reviews but it would've been cool to have an actual truck driver review this because Matt may be impressed by the space and the features but to a trucker, it may not be enough storage and they may pick up on practical problems
I think it's more meant for the European market. American truckers I'm sure drive a ton more than European ones and would need more space for longer trips
@THM_Ray you'd be surprised, lots of eastern Europeans will spends weeks and weeks away in a country just waiting for a load home. They often have the worst lorries ironically.
Brake kollam
Most of these “new luxuries” have been in American trucks for 20 years lol
............ and he seems oblivious to the fact that no matter how luxurious merc's truck is, mb drivers still have to shit in a layby
I actually had a student-job at the Mercedes Truck Factory in Germany a while ago and worked on the line to put these together. Crazy to see them like this knowing how much work it takes and how they are build.
Amazing!
*built
Glenn had left the building...🤷♂️
@Hugh Jarse 🤡
In 1999 I collected a Volvo FM7 (day cab) and it had all of the driver's seat features on here, plus the full steering wheel rake - as demonstrated here. Also cruise control and electric windows - and two horns, loud and soft!
A loud and soft horn is a great idea, that should be standard.
33 meters? Some cars take about 25-27 metres or so to stop at that speed. Never knew trucks can break like that with 40,000kgs. This is incredible!
trucks have more wheel surface area and better brakes specially these new trucks
Also empty truck doesnt weight 40000kg, more around 15000
@Mudri the truck is apparently fully loaded. He literally said it in the video
@Mudri they tested it loaded tho we all were talking about that in this thread. Thanks for the extra info empty trucks apaarently stops in 25-27m
It's Mercedes-Benz and not Kamaz
That brake test was NUTS, 10/10 for safety from that perspective.
I cannot imagine anyone else to be a more delightful child like adult than Matt to host this show. Thanks Matt. don't ever stop being so much fun!
That stop from 80kmh in 33 meters is actually crazy. Good on Mercedes!
Not 33 seconds, it stopped in 33 METERS!
Jedaro Oh yeah right xD, I think I had a brainfart writing that lmao.
Mercedes have made a beast in the hydrogen truck. Normally hydrogen powered vehicles are sluggish, not as fast and not quite there yet. This is a whole other story, wow! Their engineers should be proud of themselves for what they've accomplished in this. Great work!
As a (Rigid) HGV driver the Mercedes has almost been my absolute favourite! I actually wish they were even more luxurious inside considering how much time is spent in the cab. I really wish my firm didn't sell my Actros which I used daily and replaced it with a more economical DAF (more like Faff!) Oh I miss you Actros! Please return back into my life!
What a downgrade I feel for you man, the one thing I like about Actros's is the engine sound besides that Scania R 730 is my favorite
Matt interacting with Germans will always put a smile on my face
Good thing matt didnt say Grazie Ragazzi.
Mat talking and drag racing Yianni, too.
Zthis waz a fun ride, yaaa?
The most impressive part is by far the stopping from 80 kp/h with 40T of Load... it only took 33m, thats insane
I worked in the factory where they build those trucks a few years as a parttime while studying. Insane quality control
To be honest the breaks are marvelous, 33 meters. I know this is from 80 km/h but there is 40 tons to stop! Pretty impressive!
That brake test was nothing short of amazing! Even some family SUVs can't stop like that. Wow!
The hydrogen fuel cell truck is incredible! Hopefully we can get the infrastructure up to support them in the next decade or so to get these on the road
I really wish there was the final verdict whether to avoid it, shortlist it or buy it.
@B a r e t t a 💋 Thank you Baretta. This helped me make my decision. I just bought the truck. seriously tho, CS-tv needs to do something about these bots. Their comments are more obvious than Matt's nervousness when driving an expensive car...
What about consider it
@qwertie nah, they're busy censoring dislikes
@qwertie Lmao
Fantastic video great to hear about an alternative to electric. Really different to the normal videos, great stuff Matt
The rock hard suspension is still there no doubt and the mirror-cams do have their flaws. But, I'll admit the Hydrogen truck was very interesting.
13:06 Jesus I felt that.... Stopping a 40 ton truck from 80 to 0 within 35 meters... That thing has some serious stopping power!
Great review, always wondered what these trucks were like on the inside and on the road
As comfortable as it is, literally all top spec modern trucks have these features!
33 meters for the 40 tons building on wheels is pretty impressive. The force on those brakes must be insane.
that’s the same braking distance for some sports cars
33m you have just saved someone's life!!! my jaw dropped to the ground
not just brakes in the wheels, some have exaust brake, engine brake and a retarder in the gearbox, in this truck all those brakes work at the same time.
@graymustang they Are measured from 100 km/h tho. Still very impressive
@csuwrx exhaust brake?
Love this series, should keep the content varied like this 👍🏼
I’m never going to buy a truck but I properly enjoyed this. More truck content please Matt
Hydrogen is around 6 times more powerful than diesel, problem is that it is insanely difficult to transport in large enough quantity’s to make it a viable as petrol or diesel
But shouldn't it be viable in a truck since there's good enough space?
Well there are easy workarounds like combining hydrogen with nitrogen and getting ammonia then either using that directly or converting it back to hydrogen again when needed
Why? If you listened properly the hydrogen fuel lasts for a 1000 km's. I am pretty, sure they have a solution for your hydrogen storage concern.
5:01 matt has no chill today 💀💀
Yeah, you do chill reds as well. The rule of thumb I was taught is that whites are in the fridge and taken out 30mins before serving, and reds are put *into* the fridge 30mins before serving. Gets you close enough to the proper temps for each.
The fact that H2 truck stopped within 33 meters from 80kmph with that load is mind boggling 🤯 even Most SUV can't brake that well
True
How many feet is that?
@Angel 🐎 ~108ft.
One thing I admire about Mercedes and Volvo is that these 2 not only make their own trucks but also own manufacturers of traditional American trucks, Volvo owns Mack and therefore can offer the Volvo badge for modern comfort or Mack for traditional style trucking, Mercedes also do the same by owning Freightliner and Westernstar
Dropping the trl like that is a perfect way of missing the pin and shrinking the can size down with a big dent in the back. Love the actros. Hate the touch screen deal though and all the safety shit. Love the mirror cams Can't wait to try the new hydrogen ones.
4:59 Mat is a comedian as much as he is an auto reviewer. 😂
I work at the Daimler Truck plant that builds the American Freightliner Cascadia and it is very interesting to me to see the differences and the similarities of the european trucks vs the american trucks
The braking power is just unbelievable! Never mind how many meters, how much weight, how much energy to dissipate, discs or drums, etc. Just think about one thing: How many cars do you know that can go from 80 to zero in LESS than 2 car lengths? Unbe-friggin'-lievable!
I just love the faces of the people at Mercedes trying to be all serious and businessey when Mat just comes up with his weird shit. That's why we love Mat!
Mercedes love that too... Mat add seriously fun to really boring stuff
Mercedes old buses and trucks too had that serious faces but I love them
Matt doesn't really have a lot of responsibilities lol
I want to admit I laughed since the start of this video. This guy has awesome personality
@Another CS-tv account That's yet another reason why we love him!
great video as usual Matt. love that your doing some different vehicles. as a van driver and biker any chance you could feature a few vans now and again. A guy i know has a t6 vw 170 highline van he has had mapped and tuned. 250 bhp. it a bit of a rapid thing for a van.
Shocking suspension on the Mercs. Hopefully they have sorted this out on this model.
I suddenly love trucks! Thanks carwow for everything!
It’s just mind boggling how something can pull 40 tonnes on the road 🤯
Anyone else getting chills seeing him in shoes inside of a truck? My dad has a pair of clean shoes he only uses inside his truck.
Would love to watch Yanni and Mat actually getting a lorry licence and then actually delivering a very large load...(get your mind out the gutter)
We wouldn't have diesel issues anymore
start doing jobs for Daniel
My mind wasn’t in the gutter to begin with. Lol
Trucker myself, love seeing the truck content 👍 would be nice to see some other makes on the channel
Everyone knows that Volvo and Scania build the best trucks. They has the most powerful engines as well. Scania's new series of truck engines is based on a 16.4 liter turbocharged V8 engine, with the designation DC16. The engine is available with 770 horsepower and a torque of 3700 newton meters. Volvo FH 16 truck engine has six cylinders and is of 16 liters 750 horsepower and 3550 newton meters.
That breaking was really impressive. 33m for 40 tons 🤯
Only 40 Tons...its normal.
Matt I am wondering, since the truck is RWD, can you drift in it?🤔
Ex wagon driver here! I used to drive a Merc Actros, lovely lorry so not surprised. It often felt better to drive than my Honda Civic. Great video thanks.
Mat I'd love to see you come to the United States and check out some cars not available in Europe, also I'd love to see you review a full fat Volvo VNL, those are like nothing else!
40 tons stopping from 80kmh in 33 metres is pretty damn impressive.
Its pretty normal. Even 76+tons stops at 40meters
Not at all....also its empty...fill it wit 60Tons and you something different:)
@Tony Valdez It was stated in the video, the truck isn't empty.
@Jezzda2 I know its not empty but 40 Tons is nothing for 1000Hp truck. Normal truck towing around 70Tons or more.
@Tony Valdez where did you get that shit from? You are allowed to carry 40t in EU, 44t in Italy and SCANDINAVIA is a diff story
Never thought I could get excited about a truck review ! Great presentation I thought back to the Top Gear demo in studio of a Mercedes motorhome which blew me away becaujse it stores your sports car in it's bowels! Who knew! To say this truck is impressive is an understatement !
This is the best review so far. I've never seen you so excited, it's like you bought the truck. Awesome!!!
"Unless you're not trafficking humans, someone is trying to break into your truck" ~ Watson 2022
Never thought I'd be interested in buying a truck. Thanks Mat
The hydrogen version at the end was really exciting to see. Our planet needs this tech asap. I know the EU has started a green hydrogen push(it only took a cutoff of gas supply for them to get serious)
A few months back the 40 tonne Mercedes Actros (from ashville construction) took 38 seconds to complete the 1/4 mile so 26 seconds for the hydrogen truck is clearly very impressive
4000 Nm vs ≈3000 Nm...
@Tabacish more about the HP difference. 530 vs 1000HP
@LucasLIVE For heavy hauling, torque is more important.
@DB Class 407 yes torque is more important than speed and is more efficient in good gear ratio for hauling cargo
to all the office sitting people out there, this is our office, we also deserve to have high end luxury interior just like you guys.
Literally the next gen Scanias that came out in 2016 have all of these features, bar the cameras as mirrors. Plus the Scanias can come specced up to 770HP as of last year (2020), but before that they could come with 730HP if chosen. How about doing a video on a Scania 770S or the New Volvo FH?
Great stuff love the brakes. I was thinking about trucking in a few years. This looks to be the truck to have
Thanks Matt. Now I just have to go and convince my wife that this is what both of us need.
This is awesome! I use to love the Volvo Globetrotter, but you may have just changed my mind Matt. Can we see more content like this?
Never laughed like this watching any of the reviews by carwow. “Someone’s jiz accident”, “meeting someone on tinder”. Thank you Mat 🤣🤣
Tbh, this level of luxury is actually needed, as truckers will be in there for hours and hours on end.
Would love one over here in the states. Don't know why cab-overs were discontinued in the US.
Lets remember that it stopped as fast as a car even though it weighs 40 tons... that is just crazy
it's 80-0 not 100-0
I wonder if you could convert this with a longer wheelbase and add a third axel for 4x4 drive lol
Idk why but I find it funny af where Mat asks "how am I doing" "no accidents so far"
That's the German humour for ya
He's just mistook Mat for Richard Hammond.
Time stamp?
@Moll 8:17
No one never ever ever can review like you Matt !! 🤠😂
So you didn't launch the diesel one then. But the breaks are impressive. That is almost car standard on that stopping distance, and it weighs 20 times more.
He did launch himself into the windscreen though.
@Andrew_koala calm down - are you ok?
This was an enjoyable than usual episode.
That stopping distance is... incredible..
Never drove a truck in my life but now i want to experience it
Honestly, that design has aged so well. Looks as fresh as if it was designed yesterday
Do u honestly think it has aged well,it's the mosted dated dangerous truck on the road
@kp agreed rather a volvo, or god forbid a generic scania. Mercedes are nice in the cab once maxed out spec wise, but other companies create the same quality with the safety attached
Like the design of the NG, which looked modern for many years.
No dia que eu comprar um caminhão desse , eu quero o modelo europeu igual a esse do vídeo
33 m ? Amazing brakes and these trucks are just badass. I wouldn't doubt if those brakes were carbon all the way. The tech and quality of an MB truck is first class.
@Brett Grove Hello, how are you doing?
What a beast this is! I am itching to hear the price for a loaded H2 Version...I guess the only problem is that H2 will never make it to the market as the oil giants won't allow it.
EV's are extremely popular nowadays, approximately 1 in 5 vehicles on the road today are electric. Hopefully, the H2 will be even more popular.
.....so hydrogen "will never make it to the market".... It seems like there are some actors that haven't asked you for your opinion. Norway have been using hydrogen in buses and large trucks for years now. There are also car ferry running on hydrogen ....and more of them are under construction. Same with fast passenger catamaran boats..... The German minister for energy was in Norway recent ....and stated that Norway was Germany's largest provider of energy. He wanted to establish a system where Norway delivered hydrogen to Germany. EU (27 European countries) has decided that hydrogen will be their future carrier of energy.
@Dan Time will tell us. Let’s sit back and wait.
@F74D3N8r0T ...well...you will never achieve anything by just sitting and wait for the future to appear. As I've told you hydrogen was already a thing years before your "famous" "...never..." statement. There are not many alternative to move forward and get away from fossil fuel.
@Dan I see you have never been to Germany. Until now I do not see anything but talking in concern of H2. Also it is not what I would LIKE to see. I know in Norway you can teach the world how things are done properly. But we are not close to this. The same with H2. 🤷🏼♂️
Mercedes never disappoints, I’m watching this in awe, one’s again!
When he got in the truck I wondered how is was so luxurious. Then I saw the curtain for the window and it explained it all.
Derk: Do you know what is the most powerful thing in the truck? Mat: My brain ? Derk: After your brain Mat: My farts
Derk: after your farts Mat: my stick? Derk: oh yes you got me
I am a trucker in the usa, I daily drive a 2015 Freightliner Cascadia. I would love to drive this truck!! It’s funny because it seems the Euro drivers would rather drive the American Kenworth W900 or the Peterbilt 389 , which I used to drive for a few years and loved it!! I would rather drive the Peterbilt 389 over this Freightliner any day!! But truth be told I’d love to daily drive this Mercedes truck or a MAN or Scania! I think they all look great! Thanks for sharing!!
I dont want to break your bubble, but no driver would driver a W900 or a 389 voluntarily. Weak brakes and engines compacred to ours and they are impractical
We all want to have your trucks. Due to the law, our vehicles are only allowed to have a total length of 18.75m. Even longer with special permits. However, this special permit only comes into force if the cargo is excessively long. Because the companies want to use the largest possible volume for the cargo, our trucks are kept rather short, so we drivers are less comfortable and usually just a bad bed. You have a lot more space in your trucks and you can feel more comfortable, which we very envy. In addition, we don't have a crush zone, as we don't have a snout in front of the windshield, which means that there are much more likely to be seriously injured or even dead if there is a rear-end collision.
@christian koehne I’ve heard both. Same as here in the states, I’ve heard American truckers say they’d want nothing to do with euro trucks. Me personally, I like a euro truck and would definitely drive one.
@Energiz DreiVier that makes sense! I can say we do have more room in our trucks. We have a max length of 90 Feet and height of 13.6 feet before permit required.
@SubiSkank see both euro and american in australia, kenworth is king here
That truck stopped faster with a full trailer behind than most performance cars do stopping from that speed lol
It's look very well designed both external and internal. Well done.
the brake distance is really nice for 40ton at 80kph
The one driving this must be so proud and happy to drive this
"When you hear a noise in the back and you're not actually human trafficking" - Mat Watson
Jeremy clarkson mk2
Mo Robinson isn’t laughing at the joke 😳
@James Mason Jeremy Clarkson minus the racism.
Too soon!
I ain't gonna lie, if I had a truck like this and had no house just constantly trucking I'd literally drive with pajamas because that truck looks really good
The braking is impressive!
That truck looks like something I’d rather live in for 1 whole month but sadly I’m too young ;-; Edit: I’m not short thankyou
The 2022 facelift model of the daf is and the bunks are so comfortable and you can operate them like a hospital bed with all the modes
The auto steering is cool when you're lane weaving, but what happens if you need to suddenly move outside the breakdown lane? It's going to be harder to do that now with that feature. Sometimes I feel like automation needs to be either prefect or still give the humans freedom to move freely on their own
as a truck driver,I'm really glad that you have make this video matt...and I don't miss any video of carwow
Beautiful Gear Arrangement in these Trucks. DRIVING TRUE LUXURY!
33m is rather underrated for a massive truck. I'm pretty sure sedans and hatchbacks have similar numbers? 31m or thereabouts
Now I want to see the most luxurious trucks from Volvo and Scania :)
I knew that trucks are pretty luxurious from my days as a cement distributor. They are very luxurious. Most come with beds.
My company actually just ordered a Actros L for me, Can't wait to take delivery mid 2023. Looking forward to it
Never thought I would enjoy so much watching a truck review, lol. Great job, Mat !
@Alexander Frisch Hello, how are you doing?
I think the hydrogen truck is the way to go for the future. There are some chinese EV trucks out there but the range is only 200 km.
It should use super capacity & regen brakes with a mild hybrid system
I am not a truck driver, have a licence or even sat in one. But my god am i in love with this lol
