Trying to FIX a Faulty PlayStation Vita - Sony PS Vita Slim

čas přidán 3. 12. 2018
Hi, this video shows me attempting to fix a PS Vita Slim that was sent to me by a viewer called David. He told me that it suddenly stopped charging and it is now completely dead. He fully understands that there is a very high chance that I may not be able to fix it, but would like to see it attempted on a video.
Remember that this is just for entertainment and I am not an expert in these repairs. The processes in the video may not be the best way, the correct way or the safest way to fix these things.
I do love fault finding and trying to fix broken things so I hope that comes across in this 'Trying to FIX' series.
Many thanks, Vince.

  • What's wrong with the console?

  • Hi, i have a problem with my vita slim, and i can't find any solution. A couple days ago i replaced usb port and firstly i thought that everything is ok. But it's not everything. I can transfer files through usb. But can't charge vita. Strange thing is when i connect usb cable orange indicator light solid, and green bolts appear on battery icon. But it won't charge at all. Probably i broke something when i replaced old port, but i don't know what could it be :( Anyone has an idea what can i do to fix or at least diagnose this? Sorry for my English, it's not my native. Please correct me if I make any mistake.

  • Want to ask how you guys who can do such a difficult things Did you guys go to college or university to study Electronics? or just leard it from life.

  • Hey guys my ps vita won't turn on only solid orange replaced the battery recently

  • Could it be that the problem was just the quality of the solder alloy you used? The same thing happened to me when I used those terrible Chinese ones.

  • another WIPEOUT player :D

  • You did it again bby. Ohhhh you. You my mate.

  • The soldering irons on those cheap rework stations are terrible. The best cheap soldering iron I have ever had and still use, is the Bakon 950D with a T12 handle £35.

  • Im gonna O- *silence after cut* Me:Excusemewat

  • wait is this the only ps vita repair video hmmm

  • My vita shuts off everytime the screen times out. Does anyone who what may be the issue.

    • Probably a battery issue

  • Hey My Mate Vince! I have a problem with my PS Vita Slim as a few times it has been opened as one day I dropped it on the floor but after console worked but some buttons stopped working. Console turned on as usual but I wanted to find out what happened inside the console and did it a few times (opened the console and screw up) but one after tried to fix the buttons screen did not turn on and it's black but can hear a sound for a short time after clicked some buttons. Btw I have replaced flex cables as I was working on it without any tools just by my fingers and I damaged some of them I'm afraid but after I plugged new ones console is still not turning on. I think I could damaged a bit that place where power socket on the motherboard for battery is located. Please help and sorry for my English. CHEERS my mate!

  • To clean the holes put the motherboard at the edge of the table, half motherboard out (the part with the holes), put your iron on the top an the sucker on the bottom, that's the better.

  • Hey my mate VINCE, I could use your help with my PS Vita. either through me sending it to you or you just helping me out through instructions. But I have totally disassembled my PS Vita (PCH-2000) and everything seems perfectly normal. It only charges when it's turned off and only for a few seconds. there's no corrosion or water damage it looks clean and perfectly fine. I have no clue as to what the issue is, but you're more professional than I am. So if you see this comment please help me

  • Nice job Vince!!!!

  • You didn't plug the rear touch pad lol

  • Good work 👍🏻

  • I did this and now my vita is stuck on safe mode loop and none of the options do anything it won’t restart or rebuild or format or nothing . Just select an option and it goes to black screen

  • To free those holes with the tools you have, you need to heat it to like 250c with the hot air and at the sames time go with the largest tip you have and use solder braid to suck it. Regarding the soldering of the new port, you should have removed the solder from the pads before soldering it because the solder keeps the port lifted and not completely flat against the board

  • Hi vince kindly advice.. My ps vita fell inside a bucket of water.. It power on but all buttons are not functioning.. How can I bring it back to life...

    • Youd probs need to replace the button boards

  • My psvita has a faulty left joystick, a pressed in PS button and a possibly screwed x button

  • My vita suddenly turn off while playing. Try to charge, but only get dim orange light and won't turn on. Pls help

  • My vita just blink twice and turn off and I make a bridge and turn on led orange but no power I will try with another batery but pandemic dont give a chance, hi from México city my vita is a oled model

  • Congratulations on your successful repairing! You have done a really great job. I love that feeling when you can make something to work. I have a similar problem when my battery drains for a certain low percentage my vita refuses to charge it up. I bought 2 another batteries that worked well until they reached that same critical battery percentage level, too. Do you think I have the same problem?

  • anyone else hear that sound at 19:40? like someone is coughing or yelling in a different room

  • cs-tv.org/tv/video-Q6dAqMJJLaw.html

  • The anchors on the micro USB connector need a lot of heat. It helps to preheat the entire PCB and use a low temp solder to get the existing solder stuck in those anchors to flow.

  • The vita probably uses most of the spare board as a ground plane to help suck away heat from other components because as you've probably noticed, the vita does not have a fan.

  • I get happy every time everything works fine

  • awesome...charged mine yesterday psp 1001 out and it worked after all the years ..but no Wifi....to old

  • I use a cheap little propane soldering iron exactly for pads like that which require lots of heat. It melts everything.

  • Oh so viewers sending in their broken stuff to fix for free. Smart lmao

  • Psvita slim does not light up

    • It does on the top but not on home button

  • How can I send my vita to you? It's the first version and its completely broke. It looks all okay, it charges the way it should be too but the problem is not a single button works at all. Only the Touchscreen works. I don't know what to do.

  • The best way to remove solder from these plated thru holes, is use a thin drill (.1) in a pin vice. You break the surface tension of the solder. This kit is available from model engineering supplies. Just twist the drill in your fingers and it do the job rather than damage the pen with excessive heat

  • you are so bad in soldring :(

  • It took you a bit of time but great work

  • Not bad for a semi amateur solderer giving it a go. You fixed it which is the best result and a Vita lives on to fight another day :). Hope you learnt from the experience. It looked really neat in the end too and your friend will be well chuffed I bet!!

  • Funny I ran into this video. I'm doing this on Saturday.

  • I have a water damaged ps vita, won't charge, won't turn on anymore. Any suggestions? Don't want to buy new parts

  • Hey Vince, a little tip for getting solder out of holes.... use thinner solder braid, I use 1.2mm. Push the braid in the hole with a small tipped iron. I do this daily when removing large relays from boards... hope this helps. Great vids by the way

  • I use small drill bit best way

  • i was screaming a lot "dude in the Slim there isn't the PS home button lighting, it's on the top of the console with an own LED ^^

  • I hope this plonker Dave, who didn't admit to the liquid damage, gives you extra cash for the immense amount of time you spent trying to repair it.

  • Umm really ? Like the ps vita slim, button won’t light up because it’s just a button, and the original ps vita does have a light up button

  • Would you be able to try to fix my psp vita

  • Can you fix my vita it has drift in right thumb stick

  • lmao what a scamming kid, says he plugged it in and it just stopped charging randomly, he's obviously spilt water on it or something.

  • yes he has he used it on how to videos

  • Awesome, what was that yellow tape you applied called? Been looking for a possible name in research but i could not find that tape you are using.. I understand this is not a tutorial video, but i am so happy to have learned a lot tinkering stuffs from your videos.. Thank you!

  • can you fix it for me

  • my ps vita slim blue needs to be fixed home button dont work it affects the other buttons

  • When the light is flashing orange it means it is need charging but you need to leave it for a long time it will stop flashing once it is ready to start up

  • Is that black stain on the cover plate from the rust?

  • Why do they have to make everything so damn small?

  • died a little when he was expecting the PS button to light up on the slim tbh

  • Nice video!

  • Flux, solder, and a big can of Deoxit works wonders on water-damaged boards

  • Is that lead free solder, you are using?

  • Damn dude get a nice iron and use 63 37 eutectic solder.... Problems solved... Excellent fillets on the 3 inner pins.

  • Hello. And how can I know the mosfet 6 pins is faulty or bad without connected to the courant ? Thank.

  • What about the 1 speaker of my vita is no working how to fix it

  • nice video but why did you not just solder some jumper cables?

  • The elevator music was cool for about 3 minutes. After 52 minutes I began to wonder if it would be at all possible to locate you and give you a roundhouse kick. Good video otherwise matey.

  • "Sodaring" The act of drinking soda. "Soldering" the process of bonding metal.

  • why did you leave the headphone jack in this condition with corrosion? When everything was on top, it was not better to take care of him too? for the rest, good work.

  • How much would it cost for you to repair my ps vita?

  • Good job man.You made that David guy a happy person and I'm thinking you fulfilled your expectation with this rather hard learning curve. Please give that David guy a break on the price of fixing the vita even know you put quite alot of time in fixing it.Very good job and I'm glad you just didnt throw in the towel.Hell I would of gave up but then again my hands are to shaky for even using a soldering iron.Nice video man. Great job

  • I havent quite finished the video yet so im not sure if you fixed the vita or not?.That fix is kicking your ass but nice job none the less. I give you alot of credit.nice job.I wish my hands were steady enough to do that type work.Nice job.I hope when I get to the end of the video you actually got it fixed but if not then know one can say you didnt try.Nice job man

  • You are using too much flux! Please take some soldering courses.

  • Have you got a link or info on your £80 hot air and solder station you mentioned? It's still a lot better than what I have lol.

  • Strange that it didn't charge when u plugged it back in because u don't need a Vita charger. I don't have one, I just use all sorts of phone chargers even power bank and it charges fine with mine.

  • Super job as always Vince! Well done! 👍

  • Same one I have. I love it. I would like the oled screen but the battery life is very good on the slim and the the micro USB is very convenient as opposed to the proprietary one. But love the Vita, pity it's not supported any more.

  • If you have the Battery symbol more than 30 minutes, do a Power Reset. Hold Power button + R Button + Psbutton and wait

  • So PlayStation still makes those things because I’ve always wanted to get one

  • I have a Nintendo psp XL that i ruin thinking I could repair it. I could put i it back. I wonder if can do the same thing. I will pay you to get it back and any parts that you need to buy as well. thank you

  • To get the old solder out of the mounting holes, he probably should have tried standing the board on its side, putting the iron on one side of the hole and then sucking the solder out the other side without removing the iron so it doesn't harden.

  • 26:05 nice you just killed the USB connector and the board... Wow i did not expect this from you man..

  • Ok you do SMD soldering, but why not solder small wires to the connector legs instead of killing the USB connector completely.

  • Psp 3000 > Vita

  • I love your excitement when it actually starts up the first time :-D

  • it always feels like i have dagger stabbed between my ribs when i'm watching soldering like this one :) ... i like these videos, but man, please, try to get some decent tools and experience with solder, it's not that hard :) ... (again, i hear "murder!" shouting in my head while watchin you solder) anyway nice vid

  • This is a good channel for anyone interested in electronic wanting to know how to fix stuff.

  • I have the same issue with one I just bought and I spent far too much money for what is essentially a paper weight!

  • This video was very satisfying to watch. Especially hearing that accent. It also taught me the basics of soldering. You just earned another subscriber. Keep up the good work!

  • hello, any idea to fix an error on ps vita 3g with c4-3575-0 ? thanks
