Thanks to everyone who applied to win this incredible experience, and thanks to Ricky for being such a great sport. Congrats Ricky!
This is what it looks like to live out the dream of a million formula 1 fans! This is Ricky, he’s a Driver61 subscriber - but he’s never driven on a track before. And today, I’m going to coach him to drive this 2012 Formula 1 car.
But why? Well after two and a half years and 245 videos - Driver61 hit ONE MILLION SUBSCRIBERS. And so to give back, we picked one of you to come and drive a Formula 1 car.
So we flew Ricky 4000 miles from New York to Paul Ricard to drive a Formula 1 car.
So Ricky drove a Formula 4 car, then the 2012 Renault Formula 1 car that Kimi Raikonnen drove in the 2012 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix!

Hello, I wonder about scratched FIA sticker on the wheel. Perhaps there is an interesting story somewhere. Cheers
never have i felt so sad yet so happy at the same time scott you got room for one more just to drive the f4 car and the f1 maybe
Choose me next time, I was a big fan of your father when I was a kid! ;-)
I don't have a driver's licence can i still participate
Please keep on doing these I am desperate to enter but I’m 17
An absolute honor. Thank you guys again. Will never forget it even though it feels like a weird dream I once had. ❤
Congrats dude
I hope I can tried it with success like you too.. aamiin
Props to you so much dude. You crushed it!
You just lived a dream my man. Congratulations.
Legend
If I had won, I truly don’t know if I would have had the bravery or confidence to do this with no experience like him. Huge respect, Ricky! You deserved this!
I would. But i race bikes 😂
You could take it easy with cornering and then full throttle on the straights
@MrCan98 no way. That's less downforce which would cause the tyres to cool too much 😅
tbh there would be a load of poo coming out at each corner
@Rocco for normal people agreed. I race bikes which have a tyre surface contact the size of a dime😁
Guy just lived the dream of every single F1 fan and drove it like he stoled it. 10/10. This video was beautiful to watch. Congratulations to him and to you too for you channel/life achievements. Cheers from Brazil.
U can pay to drive it it u want I think it’s like $600
@Amanda_Australia_vegan this costs 12k euros (+VAT) last time I checked 5k for just the F4 car experience.
@Amanda_Australia_vegan yeah, i know. But i'm from brazil. 600 its 3 times the minimun wage here plus taxes. And the few circuits that offers open trackdays still charges something like 350, 400 dolars for 1 hour and half on the track with your own car. Its out of reach for most part of people like me.
I went to high school with Ricky in Puerto Rico. To see him go from bumping his daily drive into another car in a parking lot by accident to driving an f1 car. This is crazy 😂. Te felicito Ricky, tremenda experiencia 🔥
No way
Literally missing something up there in his head but he pulled it off, ya love to see it 😂
Pedro, how dare you accuse me of something you have no proof? 😅 Te lo cuento todo en tu podcast 👀
Is it just me or is this video possibly the best representation of the absolute explosive sound of an F1 car on CS-tv? Whatever you guys do for the audio, keep it up! I wanna hear all the generations of F1 engines in this setting/setup now
pre hybrid era car also...! i've heard the newer ones in real life, they sound like vacuum cleaners compared to this
Turn your sound 10x louder and you will get a good representation of what the V8s sound like
@Kaonashi i was licky enough to hear a RB7 in real life and man, thats the best an engine can sound.
I don't know where in the world you are but put goodwood fos on your bucketlist, all generations of f1 cars even the earliest museum pieces being revved all day in the pits and sent up the hill, it gives you goosebumps all day
For a guy that’s never been on a track before, this is an incredible performance. Well done dude. I’m glad to see that the prize went to someone that could appreciate it. I’m very jealous.
This is so rad. Congrats to Ricky! Not many people can say their first time on track is one of the rarest car experiences in the world.
Rad? Did I wake up in the 80's 😉
In Kimis car😮.
Didnt expect you to be here 😂😂
@Not brainwashed. you think he got a drink at the pits?
@Not brainwashed. leave me alone i know what I'm doing!
Just watching his reaction and being able to see that HUGE smile through the helmet, living vicariously through him while watching was an experience. Lived the dream that many of us have for a day. It gave me goosebumps!
13:00 Great job by Ricky actually. Usually see from first timer videos people stalling it while letting up the clutch. The reaction at 13:13 is so lovely. Can only dream about these kind of moments
Damn man, so hyped for Ricky. Anxious as heck when he was rolling out in the F1, dude did so good. I can imagine how his neck felt the next day though!
His neck must have been killing him. He listened to the instruction that you have to keep the engine on boil or else. These cars don’t function if you let the revs drop and drive them like street cars
This is so incredible, I felt like I was living vicariously through Ricky! Great stuff Scott, you made a man’s dream come true! That was awesome to watch
Man, even I couldn't stop smiling. I can't even imagine how he felt. Nice job Ricky
Would have done anything to have had this opportunity and insanely jelly but watching his happiness as he pulled out of the pitlane in an F1 car made me so happy as well.
Anything? 😏
Yes I know, my smile was in my ears just watching gim go
@Alan R yeah
@Alan R Yep Anything.
@Joe Giccominato well pay for it :) 6000 to 9000 Euros
I actually felt emotional not only for Ricky but also because its like everyones dream come true for him. What an experience. Being on circuit in any car is great but thats about as good as it can get. 😎🏁🏁🏁
Scott must have felt honored to provide and witness Ricky's first F1 experience just like when a baby is born or when a daughter gets married.
Good to see an Average Joe get the experience of a lifetime and actually push the limit! The best part was to see him get comfortable with the drive and then let it all hang out there! Love it! ❤
This was incredible to watch, congratulations to all involved! Ricky smashed it, looks like he had fun but also put his foot down to the metal - legend!
I'm so glad you and the Alpine team gave him the shot and had that gut instinct that he'd be careful with it. Amazing job Ricky, you did a pro masterclass drive with that beast for having that little experience and I'm sure every F1 driver would be impressed.
driver61 is a man of his word
No he's a word of his man
And an angel. Wow.😂
A driver61 always pays his debts
@Twelve I am not as think as you drunk I am
@Sailx I doubt my haves
Absolutely increditble what you guys offered here, and great job Ricki!
Literally got goosebumps and overcome with joy and excitement for this lucky dude. What a rush that must have been! Thanks Scott for making this happen and taking us behind the scenes. 🏎️
Ricky is the hero we all didn't know we needed. Seeing his joy made Me very happy 😊. Scott you are a legend
Spot on
This was absolutely incredible to watch. Imagine how that must feel to be piloting an actual F1 car.
Ricky is a legend. Amazing work everyone for making it happen!
That “thank you Scott” when he pulled out of the pit lane made me emotional. You made this man’s life
Dude me too!
Same!
Dude, I tiered up. he be living the dream of many of us
Tears m8, Tears.
Ditto!
That went far better than expected, props making it happen Scott.
Can't imagine the buzz he had, what a lucky dude. Scott, glad to see your channel has blown up. You deserve it.
That is absolutely insane ! it is, right here, every f1 fan's dream . Thank you Scott for letting us share his experience with us !!
Congrats on 1 million and to Ricky! I wouldn't be the same level of sim racer without you, so beyond deserved. Thanks for everything.
Seeing the smile on his face and the reaction he had, plus how well he did, put the BIGGEST smile on my face as well. I didn't get the opportunity myself, but I'll be damned if I can't live it up through people like this :D
Honestly so impressed by Ricky, Paul Ricard isn't an easy track and getting up to speed even in the f4 car isn't a joke what a lad
That's what I was thinking. Bruh I'd love to drive even an F4 car
Seriously, first timer. Pretty good
Absolutely brilliant! Wow, it is mind blowing to know this is even possible in this lifetime. Congratulations Ricky, and well done to Drive61 arranging a once in a life experience for one of your loyal subscribers. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
I'm not even a third of the way into the video... it's just so lovely to watch and I feel Ricky's excitement and happiness. Awesome.
So happy for this man. I applied for this experience and though I’m a tad disappointed I didn’t get it, glad I got to live it vicariously through Ricky.
That's exhilarating just to watch! I felt some of that thrill. I hope this is the start of Ricky's racing career.
I was so happy he was able to drive the car and even more happy he seemed to do pretty well! Way to go Ricky!!
The whole video i was just rooting for Ricky hoping he would not mess up. I teared up watching him so happy getting out of the pit lane in that monstrous machine. I was actually a nervous wreck watching the video lmao. Idk i'm just so happy for the dude and was really hoping he did not mess up
That's the story of my life. I just hope I don't mess up ;)
@John Doe You can do it buddy. When you put your mind to something you can achieve amazing things.
I got anxiety watching this lol
What an amazing day it must've been. Congrats to everyone.
Congratulations Ricky! It's been my lifelong dream to drive a modern F1 car. It was amazing watching you throughout the video. Well done.
Absolutely amazing! I got as giddy as Ricky just watching this. Congratulations to him for landing the experience of a lifetime and congrats to the channel for hitting 1M Subs!
Oh man, that was something else. It’s like I was just living my dreams through the video and his reactions. Congrats Ricky. And congrats to you guys for 1M subs and climbing.
this is so beautiful! thumbs up to the driver! and thumbs up for the channel to give someone a chance on such an experience. I would love to see more of his end reaction and his words on the whole experience!
Man this is almost making me tear up. I can feel the emotion and nerves of having the honor and responsibility of such an event and for millions of people to see too. I wish.
Damn what an experience this must've been. I can imagine the nerves and the adrenaline, you did great Ricky. Entering these competitions until I'm on a flight out of South Africa 🤣🔥
This made my day. Felt like I was part of the moment as well. Congrats to him!
This was incredible and so hard to not smile and enjoy! Well done to all!
Such a great opportunity! Good effort Scott and well-done Ricky.
That was just EPIC!! Great save in the F4! Great ride in F1!! What a sound! I got emotional just by watching (and hearing!) the video, can't begin to comprehend how Ricky must have felt!!
Mad respect for the guy. He never drove on a track before? He was great and so brave.
Send iiiiiiiiiiiiit
watching the end, there's no way he hasn't driven at least a lot on the sim. Still fucking brave to translate that into the real world
@Swainix thats my thought. i cant imagine the adrenaline of it
@SwainixTheyd be stupid to pick someone who doesnt either drive these sorts of cars or at least has decent experience on racing sim games. He's not just a person off the street ofc
@Zarzar He won a competition that you could enter as long as you had had your drivers license for a few years (can't remember the exact requirement). There was no condition at all that said you had to have any experience in a sim or on a track. So there's a very real possibility he doesn't have any experience.
This was amazing. Watched it with a smile on my face. Well done Ricky. I'm entering the competition for sure. Im feeling very jealous 😂
This could become such a great series and seeing the different times from each winner will be so fun!
Haha love the moment at 11:55 where Ricky hears the car fire up and is wide eyed and in awe, his hands are like "oh my word!" Great job Ricky!
The sheer amount of adrenaline just watching this video gave me is just insane
This was so cool to watch. I felt really happy for Ricky to experience this dream of all racesport fans. 😁 You could feel how excited he was. And watching this video got me excited too. 😄 Hes done a great job.👍🏻 I can only imagine how difficult it was too drive especially driving it for the first time ever. he had a really good coach like Scott.👍🏻Its great to see what great content you guys make and what you gave the community back with such things like that. 😁👍🏻
Can I just say its surreal to see the 2012 Lotus in the 2023 Alpine livery. I know theyre fundamentally the same team, but as far as anachronistic liveries on older cars this is probably the weirdest I've seen. Only weirder one I can think of right now would be like seeing the 1991 Jordan in the current Aston Martin livery since theres a team lineage there too.
Same, I think the biggest reason is because I loved the black and gold Lotus livery so much back then. Thought it was an excellent homage to the ‘80s JPS Lotus liveries.
I'd love to see Aston Martin F1 team do a one off Jordan F1 tribute livery it'd be so cool to see the cobra eye on the nose
Those frenchy guys.... Look what they have done to Raikkonen's car
6-wheel Tyrell with the current Mercedes Livery 💀
That last lap looked absolutely amazing! He surely did go for it big time! Really well done!
Pure happiness and joy. Made me feel warm around my heart as well 🤗. Good going Ricky 🚀🏁
That was brilliant. An absolute dream of mine to do that. Well done all involved 🎉
Im just glad this went to somebody who was truly appreciative. The "Thank you so much Scott" was the best moment.
Wow that almost brought a tear to my eye, what an amazing life experience dude!! CHEERS TO YOU!!
I was feeling nervous for Ricky. My heart was pounding just watching this, can't imagine what it's like actually being there.
Would have loved this drive, but I couldn't stop smiling the whole time I was watching him enjoy the time around the track! Happy for him
This was riveting... and the glorious sound of that car! Fabulous, and well done Ricky
What an awesome experience! I would have had to chicken out as I can’t drive I’ve done a little karting but I’m pretty sure Alpine would have freaked out if I’d rocked up! Such a cool experience to surprise a subscriber with! Nice one! Love this channel!
Good coaching and Ricky is a talented driver. Well done everyone.
Congratulations Driver61 on the milestone and great prize for that subscriber! Keep up the fantastic videos!
It’s hard for me to believe Ricky hadn’t had any previous track experience before this outing because wow he was actually pushing the F1 car! I’d be impressed by someone who drives that well even having had driven karts and even low powered single seaters for years. I have had zero real life track racing myself but I’ve played sims for 10+ years. Let me tell you, Paul Ricard is one the hardest tracks out there, with those late apexes. I tend to avoid playing the track because I’m always really poor at it. Man did incredibly well! Super cool that Scott put all this together with Alpine!
Maybe some simracing experience?
I would guess he does a lot of sim racing. I did a lot of sim racing with only a couple of sessions in karts mixed in, and during my first track day, the coaches didn't believe I had zero track experience. They said my lines, braking points, and smoothness with the brake/throttle were that of someone far more experienced. It was because I had driven the track with a similar car for hundreds of laps in iracing prior to the actual thing. Once I got past the initial fear of the stakes of it being real life and the forces on the body, it felt very much the same. I have a pretty high end rig with very dialed FOV on triples and a direct drive wheel, so I imagine that helps, but just repeating the lap over and over visually would help a ton. Still what Ricky did was a totally other level, I was completely wiped out after half a day on a track in a high performance road car, I cannot imagine doing 3 sessions in an F4 car followed by an F1 car.
Clearly Ricky has guts
I honestly have never been as nervous as I was watching CS-tv as I was watching this guy hop into the F1 car. Wow. Great video and awesome concept. To think the pros do this though out the season and even make it look easy on their Sunday drive.
Congrats to him. Thanks for making this happen. Truly awesome.
I was not the chosen one but I really enjoy this video and the face of Ricky is priceless. Thanks a lot Driver61 to bring this kind of experiences, congrats to Ricky and hopefully I’ll be the next one.
Man, so cool for him to have that experience! I checked out the requirements on the next entry and I'm a bit too tall, my feet are too big, and I'm over the weight threshold.. I loved that car back when it was running and it's cool to see it still getting track time. Here's to hoping Scott and Driver61 runs a GT3 special like this on nice, big car that I can fit into!! ;-)
Ricky genuinely could have a future in single seat racing the way he picked it up so quickly
If he's as young as he seems and gets into it ASAP somehow definitely he could be fast
Yeah, compete against those that have been driving these since the age of 5.
@So Isaidtogod i truly believe there’s someone out there that could leave Verstappen and Hamilton in the dust but since racing requires so much money at such an early age we will never know.
@ferstig235 IKR? Hamilton himself went through great lengths of struggle to be there racing. So no one can say what if all the potential we can see if racing was more affordable.
@ferstig235 That's true for literally every discipline. It's a moot point.
You guys make great videos, but this was by far my favorite. What an experience!
Congratulations on a clean ride man!! So happy for you!!
This is so awesome! Ricky was actually so impressive for his first time in a car 👀
Absolutely awesome video. I can't really even begin to imagine how Ricky must have felt.. but even just watching him experience that amazing machine gave me goosebumps and made me feel quite emotional. Kudos to you Scot and the team who made it all possible considering the huge risks involved... and huge congrats to Ricky on bringing it back to the pits in one piece. That was amazing, driving something like that is easily at the top of my bucket list.. and being a N/A car would make it 100 times more desirable to do than even the current cars. I'll need to start saving... sell both kidneys or win the lottery. Huge congrats for achieving 1 million subscribers... and thanks for making this incredible video, as a F1 fan.. this is what dreams are made of. Fantastic!
This was so cool, I felt so happy for him watching this! Great job Ricky that's a total dream come true.
This channel has been an absolute treasure for an American fan (me) learning the sport!!!
You were like: "WOW, I didn't knew cars could make right corners"?
Same here dude!!
@Gert-Jan Bonnema hahahaha goteeeeem
Congrats to Ricky, Scott and Alpine for a successful experience!
You told the story so well. That was truly exciting and heartwarming. Epic 🤘
Congrats to him, this is a once in a live time experience 🎉
Good work Ricky! Pretty solid driving for a first timer on track.
Ricky did fantastic, really wasn't expecting that speed at the end.
I felt so happy as if I was driving the car! Super happy for the dude.
oh my god you're a legend mate
@The All Rounder Thank you!
Love driving on track with a normal car but this is next level. Very impressive what Ricky did.
I almost felt as tense as Ricky! It's hard to fathom the rawness and speed of an F1 car when you drive it, because footage does not do it justice, you have to drive it at extremes to get it to work. But Ricky seemed like a natural! Amazing experience, well done.
I don't think I've been so happy not to get picked in a contest. This video stressed me out, and I wasn't even driving. Well done RIcky!
This video should be at least 3 times longer! I would really love to see more insides from whole this preparations briefs and maybe some onboards at the end. BTW, could you share his application message? I also tried to apply for this, but never got any response back after - I wonder what was that drove your attention to him?
FANTASTIC job Ricky!! I've been an F1 fan for almost 40 years and can only imagine your excitement.
Damn whoever was driving that last lap was really getting on it and shifting in a good RPM range! lol. That would have been amazing, congrats to Ricky!
this dude impressed a lot of people i think! Really cool you guys create opportunities like this!
Congrats Ricky! What an experience, all I can say is Wow!!
Every time I see an F1 car at an event like a demo run, client experience, or such, it reminds me how crazy it would be to actually think a private collection could really run one of these properly. You seriously need a team and some extraordinary resources to make a car like this run 100%.
THIS NEED TO BE A SERIES. LIKE A REALITY SHOW
*Insurance company has left the chat*
Sign me up!🙋♂
Just watching that filled me with Adrenalin. Could not in a million years imagine how that must have felt for him
Best Driver61 Clip Ever!!!!! For all the rest of us F1 wanna be's this has to be heaven. Hats off to Ricky for his F1 debut. He has the talent to push while still being safe. Thanks so much for arranging and posting the experience.
Both of you are absolute legends. That was awesome.
I absolutely loved this. Thanks for fulfilling Ricky (and hopefully one day) my dream. Cheers.
Would've been cool to know his time on the second lap, would tell a lot about just how much difference there is between a normal person and an Iceman
